Gaston I had a very disappointing experience at Gaston's Hair Salon that unfortunately only worsened over time. During my first appointment, the stylist did not listen carefully to what I wanted and failed to communicate effectively, which resulted in a poor color outcome. To address this, she consulted with the owner Cindy--who I was told is a "master stylist." The owner then took over, but instead of correcting the issue, my hair was left severely damaged and overprocessed. I contacted the salon a few days later to express my concerns. The owner offered two complimentary intensive conditioning treatments, which I accepted in good faith, hoping they would make things right. My second appointment went smoothly, and I felt cautiously optimistic. However, the third appointment was extremely frustrating. I was notified just 15 minutes before my scheduled time--while already driving across town--that my appointment had been pushed back by an hour. Despite the inconvenience, I agreed to keep the appointment due to the condition of my hair. When I arrived, I was made to wait an additional 30 minutes. What followed was the most concerning part of my experience. Before I had even reached her station, the owner addressed me in front of others in the salon, stating, "I want to remind you that this service is free of charge," and implied she was correcting an issue that was not her responsibility. This felt dismissive and inappropriate, especially given the damage occurred under her supervision. When I attempted to express my concerns about scheduling and professionalism, I was met with defensiveness, personal remarks, and even irrelevant discussion of the previous client's private medical matters. Overall, I found the experience unprofessional and uncomfortable. While I initially gave the salon an opportunity to correct the situation, the way concerns were handled--particularly by the owner--was disappointing. I recommend avoiding this saloon and going to FIXX Saloon - who ironic to their name- has been fixing Gaston's hair-tastrophes. I hope Gaston's takes feedback seriously and works to improve both technical outcomes and client communication. read more

Everyone at Gaston's Salon are exceptional hair stylists! Samantha (Sam) fixed my mother's hair every week, and colored her eyebrows every month or two. She always made my Mom feel so beautiful and happy, and Gaston's was her favorite place to go! If Sam wasn't available to fix her hair, one of the other great stylists would arrange their schedule for my Mom. Sam is so special, she even made special trips to fix Jan's hair when she went to a rehab. My mother passed away last month after her 100th Birthday and Sam made sure her hair looked beautiful. First, staff was very accommodating about booking my first appointment, then as I was arriving for the appointment I got an emergency phone call and had to rush in and cancel. They were understanding and rebooked me for the next day. Second, Adam gave me exactly the haircut I asked for and I'm very happy with how it looks. Third, he recommended an anti-frizz product that worked miracles on my (new to Texas) hair. Fourth, I returned a few days later for a mani-pedi with Norma and was also extremely happy with the time she spent on my poor hands and feet and how great they looked afterwards. I have had a couple of appointments with Rosalba and adore her. Both cuts were great and got color the second time - exactly what I was hoping for. The only reason for 4 stars is I wish it were slightly more affordable -- but I'm happy to save my bucks to be able to get an appointment with her and the hair/skin friendly products they use at this salon. read more

On multiple occasions, my stylist would flat out ignore my hair coloring requests and do what she wanted. On my last visit, I requested to lighten up my darker "winter" shade with lighter highlights. My stylist resisted the "drastic change" saying it would be better to slowly change the color over a 6 month time period. When my husband showed up at the salon, he was shocked that my hair color looked EXACTLY like it did before the appointment. Spent too much time and money with this stylist and this salon. read more

My stylist kept not listening to me when I said I wanted my hair really short and no face framing. I finally gave up bc she did not listen and ended up with something barely shorter than what I came in with and lots of face framing Also I think she doesn't know how to do curly hair bc when I said I wanted it styled curly she gave me a flat frizzy mess with barely any product. The only thing that saved it from one star was they gave me a new customer package with some products. Very dissapointing because I can't afford to get another haircut to fix it and also I was really looking forward to making the joke "no one cuts hair like Gaston" if it went well. read more

I really love this salon. I've had a ton if services here and have had good experiences all around. I have had a massage, pedicure, waxing, and haircuts. I moved to New Braunfels over a year ago and this salon was recommended to me. While my hair color and cut turned out well the first time, I have had several problems with their employees calling in sick. I have had a total of three appointments cancelled because an employee called in sick. I work a normal work schedule (8-5) and had to take time off in order to schedule these appointments. I understand, life happens. People get sick. But three times in a six month period? And to top it off I scheduled these appointments prior to major life events (graduation, retirement party, birthday celebrations). It would have been nice if they at least offered me some sort of compensation. I will not be returning. It's a shame, because the skill set is there, but the reliability is not. read more

Had previously had a good experience with Gaston's, so my husband decided to treat me to the spa day package for Valentines Day. I was so excited for the relaxing day I had ahead of me! I was getting a massage, facial, mani and pedi, makeup application and scalp massage, hair wash and style and lunch. I went in, and was off to a good start. The massage therapist is wonderful, and does a great job. Finished up, and went for my facial. The facial was okay. She did a very few extractions, and seemed a little rushed to get everything done, but it wasn't too bad of an experience. But that's where anything good stopped. Whoever scheduled my appointment, decided I should be put with the student. Had I known this from the beginning, I would have either asked for someone with more experience or cancelled the appointment all together. She did my nails, which were halfway painted. I didn't get the manicure at all, I simply got a polish change. Next up, Was hair. I got a simple curl, that came out okay. That experience wasn't too bad either. After hair, was makeup... which was a complete joke and humiliation. She used a color way too dark for my skin, and didn't even bother blending in. She added bronzer to my cheeks, and it was a burnt orange color. She did not blend the eyeshadow. And my eyeliner was literally half an inch off my eyelash line. I looked like a clown!! On to my pedicure, she didn't bother cutting my cuticles, cut my toenails way too short, and didn't even paint my entire nail (same she did on my manicure). She also had painted my skin in multiple areas, and didn't bother cleaning it up. I'm on the verge of tears at this point as we paid about $300 and my expectations were not met. I had a little trouble getting a refund after everything was over but the lady finally decided to give me $40!!! At this point, I was completely fed up and decided I would let my husband handle it from then on. He called a few days later and was able to get another $40 but we ended up paying over $200 still for an absolutely horrible experience. As a salon, they should have booked someone with a lot more experience to the lady who was spending the whole day there and made sure things went right, not the student who very clearly had no idea what she was doing. My husband and I had plans to go to dinner immediately after me leaving the salon but that could not happen since my makeup looked that awful.. I had to go home and try to get that color and product off, which was not easy, and I had to go spend another $70 elsewhere so they could fix the horrendous job that was done on my nails. read more

I am not aware of the work they are capable of doing as i never made it in to get my hair done.. i walked in to make my appt in person as i needed to book 3 hair appts, the first clerk did not find anything for me and asked another to assist her. I've been to this salon 3 times. The first 2 times, my appts were rescheduled. The last time (3rd visit) I had a new stylist who was fabulous. I loved my hair. My next appointment is scheduled in less than 2 weeks, right before my high school reunion, and they just called to cancel my appointment. The stylist, the one who is fabulous, is no longer working there. And to make matters worse, they cannot get me in with anyone else before my reunion. I'm very unhappy and will not return. I have been going to Gaston's since I moved to Texas in 2013. I have had no problem whatsoever with anyone on staff. All employees are extremely talented and helpful. Sometimes the fault may be in how the spa is being run, as I have seen many reviews that are not favorable. My stylist is the best, period. She does an excellent coloring job and has never cancelled any appointment I have made. Also the receptionist is very good and very capable. I have visited Gaston's on two occasions: first, for a haircut and color, and then for a facial. I have been so impressed with the quality of service and their philosophy of serving clients. In both cases, I was pleased with the care and attention I was given by the staff. And I am happy with the results--my hair looks great; I get lots of compliments. My skin has looked much brighter and healthier. I appreciated how well the staff worked to help each other with making clients comfortable, helping out with color, shampoo, or a hand massage while I was waiting. They all get along well, so the environment is friendly and upbeat. (Ever been to a salon where there was conflict? I have. Not fun.) I like the "no tipping" policy, as well. It takes a lot of pressure off the client and the staff member if they are just paid fairly to start. I haven't any experience with how they would handle a complaint, because I haven't had one. But I trust them to be responsive. Yes, both services were a bit of a financial investment on my part. Gaston's isn't the least expensive place in town. But I left feeling good about what I spent, like I had made an investment in my health and appearance. read more

Given the fact I have already used too much time and resources with Gaston's in New Braunfels, I am selecting to not expend too much energy towards my review. What I may simply state is, the experience Meg S. on 12/28/2018 had is the exact (and I mean exact) experience I had on 12/28/2019. Interesting, as I am typing this review I observe that Meg S. experience and my own are same month and day, just one year apart. Wow. That is truly odd! Perhaps it is an annual end of year guideline Gaston's applies. It would be interesting to find out if this has transpired in other months throughout a year. Having utilized Aveda for years, it is extremely disappointing to observe the poor quality of an Aveda service location. I will never return. I am contemplating rather I will continue to utilize Aveda products. read more

Katie at Gastons did a terrible job when she colored my hair. When I returned a few days days later asking Katie to fix my tricolored hair, she tried to make me sign a waiver stating I had disagreed with her recommendations and charging me more than I had originally paid for her initial service to color my hair. The owner was on Katies side. I left Gastons very disappointed. I now have to get through the holiday season with the top of my head being one color, the second half of my hair being another color and the ends being another color.
