This used to be my favorite bar all throughout my OSU days, and even for years after when I would visit from out of state...but that was before they changed every single thing that made it a fun pre-game hangout. To my shock, the dollar bomb thing is over, and when I ordered some Jagerbombs, my order totalled 67 dollars before tip. Instead of what would have been 16 dollars just a few years ago (had it been maybe 30 bucks, I may not have felt so ripped off and like my college memories were being trampled into dust). So that was a huge letdown. They also changed the bar into the type of configuration that seemed to discourage interaction unlike the old bar from "back in the day". The place is empty during peak hours, which was sobering (literally and figuratively), and definitley not the place I remembered from my 20's. It's a different place, and feels like they should have at least added some other gimmick to replace the old "bomb" gimmick, or just changed the place into something else completely, because that was a gigantic letdown. It did help to solidify even further the fact that times have changed, life has changed. Haha read more

There is really nothing you go here for except to scope out the people and usually making fun of the frat guys or sorority girls that are passed out at the bar. That would Explain how I was treated when I went to Gas Werks about 3 months ago and I have decided that that would be the last time that I will ever go. I never noticed the "Bad food, lousy service" sign out front until recently passing by. GO FIGURE! I went to Gas Werks a few months back, waited 27 minutes for a drink on the patio. I kept getting passed over... I finally asked for a manager, the manager comes over and says "GO SOMEWHERE ELSE THEN IF YOU WANT TO COMPLAIN." so, that's what I did. Friday is bike night at this Bar. The staff are courteous and attentive to your needs. Domestic beers are on special and on a good night there is a young man there grilling burger and chicken for folks who are hungry. he may even have cheese if you desire. Weather permitting most people will congregate on the patio where the bikes are parked. You will see people chatting, drinking, eating and just having a good time. There also may be a person playing guitar and singing as well. I cannot speak for other times, but Friday from 4-830pm are a good time and you will find me there. They are also giving away a 2009 Harley Davidson Fat Bob. So if you have a bike or just want to win one, stop by on Friday evenings and check it out. read more

I have been to Gaswerks both last year and this year. I was only there once last year because I was not a fan. When I went back this year I noticed a lot of good changes. The service was great and everyone was very friendly which was a change from the previous years. Also, unlike the past, there was not trash everywhere and there were very few empty glasses lying around. It seemed a lot cleaner overall! It also had great prices.. they seemed better than most other places on park street. I just hope that people do not hold a grudge against this bar because it really has made some great improvements. Okay so I had been in Gaswerks before but the Park Street Festival was going on and we all decide to go in for a beer. My friend and I walked in and a uber rude bouncer tells my bf to tuck in his chain. Huh? Please note he was wearing a 1/2 inch if that S on his neck. They began to tell him it was excessive. Walk in walk out! We are not teeny bopper college kids who looking for trouble but it seems like Gaswerks is looking to keep a certain group of people out no matter what. All POC, I strongly recommend avoiding this place. The vibes were racist as soon as I walked in the door. As a 22 year old the bouncers refused to give me a 21+ wristband needed to buy drinks after I repeatedly showed my valid ID and when I showed the bartender my ID he charges my card and proceeds to tell the security guard to kick me out without giving me my drinks when I asked for them. Ive been here on nights where theres no one and you can get some cheap bud light and play pool and I have been here on nights where its crowded and most everyone seems to be in a good mood. I will say its better on the weekends by far and having two bars to choose from makes getting a drink easier. The music is descent and not so loud you cant have a conversation. A huge issue I have is the floors on the weekend are super wet with what I am not sure but makes for a sketchy situation in heels or if your drunk. Good outside patio read more

Sports bar? Really? I go here, not by choice. My friends like the $1 bombs. That is a really good deal, but the bombs are tiny. The music is loud, the bar is crowded, and the regular drinks are fine. There just isn't anything special about this place. I have gotten free drinks here before; they gave me the wrong tab at the end of the night so they just cancelled the whole check. It was only $10 but hey, it's free! We like to play with the traffic lights by the pool tables, drink on the green. That's about the only entertaining part of this place. The bathrooms are sick!!! You might as well go on the floor, it so dirty in that place nobody would even notice. If your celebrating your 21st birthday you might enjoy this place. But you won't drink much at the bar. Gaswerks is big! Very big in fact. If your looking for a small, quiet bar to relax and have intimate conversations with friends then this probably isn't your place. On the other hand, if your looking for a fun night out without spending a ton of money, then Gaswerks just may become your new favorite hangout. Whenever I get the chance to decide our destination you can bet we are hitting up Gaswerks. They have a huge patio with a bar ( when its nice out), two more bars inside. Like all big bars, the wait for drinks can get a little long when they are busy, but the bartenders always work fast so I guess I'm willing to wait a little longer than when I'm at some bars. I don't like getting bumped into as much as the next guy, but I happen to like big crowds when I drink, so hey, take the good with the bad I guess! read more

The good- cheapest shots in the Arena District, decent patio. The bad- seriously the worst bar staff in the country. Rude, slooow, inconsistant. Expensive mixed drinks, dress code changes depending on who you are and what time it is (and how many girls you have with you). Overcrowed, bad music, weird hours.. and did I mention the service? it says lousy service on the sign, but seriously, I go to a lot of bars and this is easily my least favorite bar in downtown Columbus. I heard that they are fighting a couple lawsuits so we might not have to deal with them for much longer. What to do?!- There are much nicer bars on either side of Gaswerks. Cheap drinks, lousy service? How about NO service? I was in town over the summer and when the outdoor festival we were attending looked threatened by rain, we decided to find a bar to grab a couple drinks until the weather passed over. My 3 friends and I stumbled upon Gaswerks and went inside to grab a table. When a friend and I went to the bar to grab beers for the table, we stood there for at least 10 minutes while various staff members walked around behind the bar. Not once did anyone come to take our order. Did I mention that we were the ONLY PEOPLE in the bar? An individual that entered after us was served and then the bartender returned to the stool he was sitting on in the corner and resumed playing around on his phone. Real classy establishment. I sincerely wish I had a trust fund so that I could buy this life suck and convert it into a bowling alley w/ a bar. It's the perfect sized space for such a place along with a great location. On their signage they have umlauts over the "e" to make it sound German, but anyone with an ounce of German language knowledge knows there's no such thing as an umlaut over an "e." They usually go over "a" or "o" or "u." I always pronounce it "Gasverks" to make fun of them. But I digress. This place is made up of all the rejects of Brothers. I suppose some people try to reclaim Gaswerks and make it cool but it has not worked. Use your better judgment and always DECLINE cherry bombs from friendly patrons. Yes, i know you're being offered a free shot, but seriously DECLINE DECLINE DECLINE. Fake IDs worked here for me, and they probably still do, based on the clientele. I've come to this place a few times and it's never been great. This bar was ok until they clotheslined my friend when we tried to leave out of the same door we came in. Seriously, we walked in, realized we were in the wrong bar to meet our friends, and the guys working the door manhandled us when we tried to walk right back out. They said we had to go through the patio, through the bar, walk around, and come out the door on the other side. They literally wouldn't let us past them to get back out. There was no line to get it, no one was even trying to enter, we just wanted back out after stepping right in. After realizing they were serious and wouldn't let us back out, we got lost TWICE trying to find this other door they were talking about. The whole thing took 10 minutes when it would have taken us about 5 seconds to cross the threshold we were at back to the street. Put a damper on the evening, that was for sure. I won't be back here just for this incident alone. The sign doesn't lie when it says "LOUSY SERVICE". I can buy bad tasting shots just about any other place on Park Street. read more

I recently went to gas Werks again after not being there for a while due to moving away from Columbus. Before I left I went into gas Werks and the atmosphere was fun but not for me yet. Since I have been back however I have been into gas Werks many times and plan on going back! They have awesome specials on Thursday and seem have become the place to be at midnight on Thursday! The staff all seem to have a lot of fun while they work and are fast and friendly while they help get you a drink. I also got wind that they are now open for Sunday fundays and have the same specials as Thursday so come this Sunday I know where I'll be with my friends! read more

I will never recommend this place simply because of the bouncers that stolen my REAL ID because I'm a 22 year old non driver. He said it had to be fake and asked for another form. I only brought cash and my medical card that has my mother's name on it. He was convinced I was using a relative's ID and wanted to act big and bad because two officers were 15 feet away. I knew my social but didn't think I had to actually talk to a officer. I'm a Chicago native and cops are my friends ever. Especially when I'm pretty drunk so I argued with him until my friends told me to let it go. I gave in since it was the end of the night and talking to authority with half closed eyes wasn't ideal. But now that I'm sober I'm telling. Bouncers and Bartenders are not even allowed to take people's ID's away. If they think its fake they are supposed to say we cannot service you and turn you away. Came after a Blue Jackets game. Not originally from Ohio, and I've only been here for a few months, so apparently I'm still un-aware of all of the bar "rules and regulations". Anyway - being the DD, I asked the bouncer at the door if it was ok that I brought my own bottle of water in - I have a weird thing about drinking tap water - he said it was totally fine - took one sip from the bottle and was immediately "kicked out" of the bar... This is the most racist place ever. I tried to go there a few weeks ago with my brother-in-law from California. They told me I couldn't wear sweat pants (but yet on certain days during the same time frame I went wearing shorts and sweatpants). So I was not allowed in. But he said that before 9:45PM you can wear whatever after 10PM you have to dress nice. So what if you wore sweats pants at 9:45PM went in and after 10PM you are still in there. Do they kick you out??? The bouncers are really douchey. When asked where are the rules stating that there are no sweat pants allowed he said the rules/sign was posted inside the building.
