I like the food here, we drive through Crivitz frequently and get a pick up order. We always get cheeseburgers and fries. Burgers are tasty and always cooked perfectly, not too greasy, great bar burger . Fries are more battered or breaded? Personal preference, not my favorite but still decent. Unfortunately, like many restaurants these days, I can only see their menu if I have a Facebook! Unfortunately we had terrible table side service and then our food was dry and burnt. We have been here in the past but today was exceptionally bad. After our waitress NEVER returned to our table for drinks( she was sitting on her phone at the register !) We have heard many great reviews of this place so we finally checked it out. The place was busy even for a Sunday but they have a breakfast buffet on Sundays. Even for it being that busy, all of the tables were clean as well as the floor. Everything was very nice and clean. We were seated right away. Our waitress was super nice and friendly. She kept checking in on us and making sure we were good. There is an upcharge to have fries with your meal otherwise you just get tortilla chips and a salsa type of dip. We ordered a bacon cheeseburger wrap and a Flamethrower burger. I was expecting the bacon cheeseburger wrap to be warm but it wasn't. I am not even sure the meat was heated up. I was a little thrown off by it. But it still was pretty good. My husband got the Flamethrower and said it was a great burger. He loved the heat that the burger had to it. I definitely would try a burger the next time we go back. If you are in the area or driving by, stop in for a bite to eat. We stopped because the location was convienent and they had a large outdoor patio. We we were traveling with our small dog and thought we could take her to avoid keeping her in a hot car. Sadly, they are not progressive enough to allow leashed dogs on the patio. NOT PET FRIENDLY. To be fair they do have postings indicating no pets allowed. I just did not see the sign. However, my dog is quieter than a lot of people's kids that were there. We were vanquished to picnic tables at the edge of the parking lot, near the horseshoe pits. This turned out to be okay because it was such a nice day with a breeze. We placed our order inside and the waitress delivered it to our picnic table. The order came quickly. Husband had their version of a Greek salad - which looked like my side salad except it had feta cheese in it (no olives, ancho is or peppers). Both salads were of a good size. I had a grilled cheese and ham sandwich. It was okay except the lunch meat used was not dry when they made the sandwich so the toasted bread was soggy on one side. Sandwich was served with coleslaw. My husband also had tomato soup which he said was okay. Total bill was about $29 without any drinks - we brought our own to our picnic! SUGGESTION: Designate the small back portion of your patio, facing the parking lot as pet friendly. This place sucks. Don't even fooled by the number of cars in the parking lot. It's mostly because there aren't many other places to go in town. I won't comment on the service because that wouldn't be fair since most of the servers are just barely 18 year olds who are clueless. The food was bad. If I hadn't been starving for having a few too many drinks somewhere else I wouldn't have eaten. I had a burger. It lacked any kind of season - btw it was the flame thrower. No heat at all. Bland. And bun to meat ratio was awful - too much bun and dry AF. My friend had a philly and a good quarter of the meat was inedible. The soup was sooo salty. The only thing that was decent were the waffle fries. Also they automatically put a 3% charge for using a card on the bill without even asking for our method of payment first. read more

I may not be returning to this place, despite it being our favorite dinner spot on the way north for the past 3 years. The usual beer-battered walleye platter we always ordered came soggy, tasting almost like greasy catfish, rather than tender and flaky. It's also $4 more expensive than the previous year and they don't offer you the "all you can eat" second helping as they did before. Service was also the slowest that we've ever experienced in all our visits to Gateway. I wonder if the place will remain viable as restaurants fail often out in these remote parts of Wisconsin. We stop here once a year on the way up to camp in Pembine. The restaurant is just off the highway, so it's a convenient location. They also have a beautiful patio. So, it's great to sit outside on a warm summer day. The menu consists of sandwiches / wraps, burgers, pizza, and fish. Each day, they have a food special. I chose the Ultimate Grilled Cheese. It was a bit too much bread for me as it was 3 slices of thick Texas toast. However, their Vitalia dip offered with their chips is very good. They have a kids' menu that consists of mac and cheese, hot dog, chicken nuggets, etc with fries, fruit, and a kids' drink. I'd recommend staying away from the mac and cheese as it's a small serving. The other options are a nicer-sized kid meal. Every year, they have raffle tickets on the tables that support a drawing for the local food pantry. We came here looking for a buffet, but plates the waitresses were carrying, from the menu, looked much more appetizing than the few buffet items offered. So, we ordered breakfast off menu, instead. That was a great decision. Breakfast was very good, over-easy eggs, hashbrowns, a typical breakfast. The best part is the food wasn't greasy or salty. Tasted like you made it at home. When Gateway remodeled their outside area we were hoping a wall would go up between the patio and the traffic on 141 about 25 feet away from the tables. When a wall blocking traffic noise and smells never went up we joked about how it must be to sit in traffic to enjoy a meal. With limited outdoor dining options in this area we broke down and tried their patio this week.   It was every bit as horrible as we imagined.   Dump trucks and semis, roaring pickups and motorcycles, exhaust and a red light to make sure you got to enjoy them, and halt conversation, just a little bit longer. We wondered why in the world they wouldn't put a wall on one side and make a nice cozy eating space.   We actually joked that maybe it's because they want drivers to see people eating.   We didn't think that was the reason because 99.9% of the people that drive by could care less about the dining on the patio, but I guarantee that 100% of the diners on the patio care about the semi that is idling at the light next to their table. We asked a waitress if they haven't considered blocking the traffic view.   She said:  "Believe me, you're not the first person to ask that.  But they want people driving by to see the people eating." It was that stupid after all. We won't be back unless we see some kind of barrier go up between the patio and Highway 141.   Too bad because the food and service were great. read more

I have business in Crivitza few times per year. I always schedule it for a Monday or Tuesday: AYCE chicken wings and $0.45 wing night, respectively. I took two employees with me this time. Two off us had the wings and the third got a pizza. As usual, the wings were very good. Hot, crispy. I love waffle fries; these were good. Man, I love waffle fries with wings. It took a little longer than I would expect to get a second helping of 6 wings, but not bad. My colleague liked her pizza, 14 inch, two topping. She got sausage and tomatoes...new for me. She didn't like the outer crust -- too hard. I tasted the pizza. Pretty good. Sauce was tomatoes and sweet. Big chunks of sausage. Well worth the price. Service was good. The server had a few big groups when we got there so we waited a little, but the other server helped out. It took a little bit to get my 2nd beer, so I took matters into my own hands. It helps south the passion of walking whe they have two of my favorite tap beers: Keewaunaw Widowmaker and Blue Moon. In conclusion, I enjoy coming to The Gateway. Anyplace you can get very good wings and waffle fries that fill you up, with good bleu cheese dressing, three good tap beers, and decent service for under $20 is worth some kudos. He definitely discriminates against age I've applied here twice I've lived here 15 years and the first time when I was 42, and just moved to town was told about him then. The server didn't clear any dirty glasses or plates the entire time. It took a half hour to get our rounds of drinks each time. I ordered mild wings, which the menu offers, they came as naked wings, in other words, small pieces of broasted chicken, no sauce. When I asked the server for some hot sauce, she came back 10 minutes later to tell me they don't have hot sauce..... Tabasco? Apparently not... no hot sauce in a restaurant, seems weird. I'm not sure why the menu offers both hot and mild wings when apparently they have neither. And let's talk about the all you can eat tacos. They arn't exactly all you eat if the server never comes back to ask if you'd like more. It was just a very bad expirence. It's a good thing I really wasn't THAT hungry when we stopped at the Gateway Bar & Grill on the way home from Chicago. We thought we would be pleasantly pleased when we walked in and the place was pretty crowded. My boyfriend ordered the All You Can Eat Peel and Eat shrimp, my son ordered a burger, and my daughter ordered the fettucini alfredo. I love ruebens. It's my favorite sandwich, and I usually ordered that if its on the menu. Upon receiving my sandwich, the visual immediately threw me off. My corned beef wasn't a pretty pink, but a slice of pink surrounded a greyish brown meat. My stomach turned. Corned beef shouldn't look like that. I decided to taste it anyways. YUCK! It had a gross sweet flavor. I opened up the sandwich and examined it. Then I thought maybe it was the Thousand Island dressing. Dipped my fry into it. Gross! It tasted like they put allspice in it (could have been cinnamon too - not sure). So, I decided to taste the other half of my sandwich. Nope. Still gross. The waitress comes over and asks us at that point if I want a box to take my sandwich with me. I laughed and said no. My boyfriend spoke up then and said "I think there's something wrong with the corned beef". She apologized and said she would bring that up with the cook right away. She comes back and says, "The cook says the color is normal for corned beef once the sauerkraut touches it, the corned beef becomes oxidized." REALLY?! Oxidized? Never heard of such a thing. I laughed and I think I might have said that was a load of bull, but I am not sure. I told her that it still tasted funny and that I have consumed my fair share of corned beef to know what it should look and taste like. My daughter also said her pasta tasted funny, and my son tried it also, and confirmed her thoughts. My boyfriend thought they should at least comp my sandwich considering I only took a total of three bites. But they didn't. The bill was WAY too much for the quality of the food we received. I didn't feel so hot on the way home. The highlight of my visit to the Gateway Bar & Grill was the pint of Spotted Cow. They should just stick with serving booze and close the kitchen before someone gets really sick from rancid corned beef. read more

Went to this place on Wednesday for my birthday. Sat outside and we were greeted in a timely matter. Got our drinks quick too, we then ordered dinner and we waited.... And waited.... And waited.... There was a fairly large group seated when we got there, but their food started coming out when we got our drinks. We waited 45 minutes to get our food. My husband ordered a Rueben, when the waitress placed it in front of him.... She said a Rachel... and then said... Rueben. When he went to take a bite, he said, this IS A RACHEL. We waited another 10 minutes to flag down the waitress, and instead of taking it away right away, she said ohhh let me check, went to the kitchen, came back and said.... It's the kitchens fault, I put it in correctly. Then she took his plate......15 minutes later his sandwich came back! My family was done eating at that point so he got to watch us eat dinner and then eat alone! Then when she brought the check, she said I took your drink off!!! WHAT? I live about 5 miles away from Crivitz, and unfortunately Gateway is one of the only sit-down restaurants to eat at in the village. Gateway has TERRIBLE service, probably because they only employ 16 year old bimbos who don't have a brain. On one of my trips there my husband and I had to leave within 2 minutes of arriving because of an emergency at work, and they still made me pay for my soda that had not even arrived at the table yet! We took family there this past weekend for breakfast, and I will say that I will never go back there again. The waitress brought me and my sister-in-law completely wrong food orders, and did not even offer to take it back to the kitchen to remake our order. She NEVER even apologized (instead, she made us feel guilty like WE messed up the order) or gave us a discount on any of our food, even though two of the plates were not what we had ordered. Two of the tables next to us also sent their food back while we were there. I have never received food or service promptly, the food is overpriced and mediocre AT BEST, and the ENTIRE waitstaff needs some customer service training. Stopped for breakfast today and was not pleased at all! The waitress was not very pleasant. She never said hello or good morning. The food was so so. The person I was with enjoyed her French toast. I ordered pancakes which were as thin as crepes. The waitress never came back to check on us. At the time there were only 2 other tables. One table was just a lady and the other table maybe had 8 people. The owners were both there as well. When she came with the check finally she never asked how everything was or if we needed anything else. I have been here a few times. It is a pretty convenient place to go if you're looking for better than average food around the Crivitz area. The chicken is pretty good, the steaks are good, and the prime rib is real good. There are better places, but there are far more worse places. My only complaint is that the service is real average. The people are nice, but it seems like everything takes longer than it should. When I'm up north, I love the fact that things seem to slow down, but that doesn't necessarily mean I want to spend all night waiting for my food.
