I was part of a "Holiday Work Party" event and it was first time on any one of the Gateway Clippers Fleet and let alone the entrance and boardwalk It was clean and beautifully decorated for the Holidays which got me all excited right away!! There was a photographer ready to take a picture pre boarding and a large friendly staff helping everyone aboard. The boat was very clean, and had three levels in which each deck was also clean and accessible. The bathrooms were very clean and the it was warm and cozy with holiday decor for our very large group. The food was served buffet style and had gluten free and vegan options for passengers via pre order. We had a great bartender and wonderful waiters and waitresses constantly cleaning finished glasses and dishes. We also had a DJ with dancing and just a great time all around. The boat began disembarking as we were eating and before we knew it the views were beautiful along the River front with all of the city lights and Sister Bridges lit up Round trip I believe it was about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. A group of eight of us joined the Captain's Dinner Dance Cruise on a July Saturday evening, and we had a great time! Once we boarded, they offered a glass of sparkling wine as a welcome cocktail. Very nice touch! They seated us at a table long enough for all eight. The buffet was ready at boarding, and it was plentiful and fresh. The buffet menu that night included starter salad fixings, dinner rolls and butter, steamed carrots, steamed mixed vegetables, gnocchi in red sauce, mashed potatoes, chicken breasts in a light cream sauce, beef, and assorted cheesecake and eclair desserts. Coffee and tea also were included. If you wanted an alcoholic beverage, they had a bar with wines and assorted liquors. Once dinner was over, the kind staff took away our dirty dishes and moved away the buffet to open up the dance floor. The DJ played a good mix of tunes, including a few line dances that got people out of their seats to dance. During the cruise, the crew provided information about the three rivers and the various sights. It was very interesting. Guests could view the river and skyline from inside. After dinner, they got a better view at tables and seats on the top deck or standing on the lower decks. It is was such a lovely evening! I highly recommend this cruise as a fun-filled night out. Fun boat tour around the city of Pittsburgh outer limits that takes you underneath several bridges as well as with a good look at some of the historical buildings and the stadiums for the Pirates and Steelers. The tour guide did a great job narrating about various points of interest and the historical contexts, while certainly not sugarcoating anything. The boat itself was nothing special, with an interior decor that takes you back to circa 1993, but they do offer dinner/party cruises with buffet and bar drinks as well. Price was a tad expensive but still a solid experience for a tourist. read more

Without reservations we traveled here from Wheeling WV on a Sunday for a tour, arriving at 10:30 am on Father's Day and were able to secure a spot for the 11 am tour. The tour lasted about an hour and was very informative. We went down all three rivers, learning about the various bridges, points of interest, and history of Pittsburgh along the way. The boat had two interior decks, a bathroom, and a bar area, as well as 3rd level exterior seating which we choose (and was the most popular even in 90 degree weather). I would suggest if this is where you want to sit to get there early and make sure you are one of the first to board. Be sure to bring sunscreen, you'll need it, and seasonally appropriate clothing. The parking lot cost $8 for 12 hours, so it only makes sense to visit the limited amount of restaurants nearby. It's a nice way to relax and enjoy the city views. read more

Visited Pittsburgh at the end of October and knew i had to take a cruise. I took the PRT over from downtown and enjoyed the walk along the water. I opted for a mid-day cruise and bought my ticket in-person. They give physical tickets, which I liked because it's definitely being added to my scrapbook. The weather was nice, thankfully no rain. We did the Fourth of July fireworks cruise on the princess. The positives were a great view of the fireworks, little tour and Pittsburgh info/history, no worries about saving a family spot on the lawn or having to use port a potties in the park, access to food and drink. overall glad we did this and would recommend. Some of the things to be aware of that make this less than a five star experience: people line up early so they can get the prime seats. We didn't realize that you have to keep checking the board for which gate your boat is leaving from so you know where to line up. Then after boarding, passengers come around trying to steal chairs to bring them literally anywhere on the ship decks that they want to sit. It gets chaotic. Took a little longer than expected to dock the boat after the fireworks display because everyone with a smaller boat streams down the river immediately past this large ship so to be safe we wait. You can decline the boarding photo. read more

We decided to do a sightseeing tour last Friday on the Gateway clipper. I hadn't been on a gateway clipper boat in years so I was excited to be a tourist in our own city! The sightseeing tour is an hour long and you get to cruise down the rivers while some of the employees talks about pittsburgh facts and history. They are so many beautiful photo ops as well. The boat itself is very large so there is room (and multiple deck levels) to space out. They also have a bar and snack stand on the boat as well. This would be a great activity to do if you have friends/family coming from out of town. We had such a great time and the weather was perfect, which helped! read more

Even with the chilly 25° weather, I still made sure to get out on the deck to take some pictures! The staff were so friendly and accommodating. This is a must when visiting Pittsburgh. I went an hour because I was afraid of being late of far parking but super easy parking. Right where the entrance was. Since it's been hot I picked the 6:30 time and couldn't have been happier. Weather was perfect at that time. Since we got there super early was presently surprised how cute the dock was. You can feed the fishes and there's a snack/beverage stand. The guys at the ticker booth and snack stand was really nice. Even gave my nephews some bread to feed the fishes. So many places to sit and restrooms was clean with even a little stool for kids. Once it was time to board the process was easy. Very nice tour of the 3 rivers. A must do in Pittsburgh. We just came back to CA from a 2 week long Midwest- East Coast adventure. The night we spent on the Gateway Clipper was prob. one of the absolute highlights of the entire trip! Tickets were purchased online just a few days before our arrival (dont forget to look for discount codes!). Had our tickets printed on paper (and phone). Parking and check in was super easy, just follow signs. We easily found seats for our group of 10 (grandparents, adults, kids) and off we went. Neither of us had ever visited Pittsburgh before and the 1hr boat tour was the BEST way to see the city. It was a beautiful July night (check sunset times and book the boat closest to this time!) with a warm breeze and an absolutely magical sunset. Would recommend over and over again ! read more

My parents where in from New York visiting and we needed fun things to do. My wife and daughter decided to go on the Gateway Clipper. This was the first time I have been on any of there boats before. It was a beautiful day out and we all sat on the upper deck. I choose a bad spot as i sat next to the ac unit which made it hard to here the tour guide speak. It's Father's Day weekend and gorgeous outside, so I can't imagine why the cancellation. My wife and I have cruised on the Gateway Clipper maybe six times over the past four or five years. Ordinarily I'd rate them 5 stars. Good food, pleasant staff, relaxing cruise around the 'Burgh. This last Captain's Dinner Cruise however (10 August 2024) was marred by packs of children constantly racing around the dining area. It was quite disturbing and not at all enjoyable. There were quite a few elderly passengers aboard and having all these children treating the place like a playground was if nothing else dangerous. read more

We attended the WDVE Yacht Rock Cruise with three other couples. We all had a really great time. The ride was very smooth, the boat was clean, the staff was courteous and helpful, and there was a good selection of (slightly pricey) drink and food options. Unfortunately the evening was marred at the very end when us guys were sitting at our table while our wives were downstairs listening to the band wrap-up. They had started one more song after the boat docked (perhaps they weren't supposed to). As we sat there with their sweaters and purses waiting for them to return to the table a large, heavy set security officer (who for some reason was dressed and equipped like a member of a SWAT team who was about to kick-in a door at some cartel hideout) approached and told us YOU MUST LEAVE NOW!! GET OFF THE BOAT!! in a very rude and abrupt manner. I guess he could not have waited five minutes for the song to finish and our wives to return to the table? They need to have security, I get it. But couldn't they hire someone a bit more professional who did not look and act like a cartoon? read more

Not good" is an understatement! Update on the Gateway Clipper Fourth of July fireworks FIASCO. I noticed in my review below that I was identified as living in Pittsburgh. I'm from Pittsburgh but have lived in CA for over 40 years. I am telling readers this only to point out that I and three of my guests on that disappointing departure came from the West Coast for this event. Yes, flew in and rented cars, etc. only to attempt to watch the 4th July Fireworks in a boat that was parked under a bridge, The MAIN point I want to make is I that I wrote to the owner / manager re my disappointment and embarrassment in taking 8 people (including me) on what should have been a spectacular time but could not see the fireworks, or to be honest could not see more than 1/5 of each explosion. I SENT THAT LETTER ON JULY 10 AND HAVE NOT HEARD A WORD FROM THE CLIPPER CLAN. That's not surprising as I'm sure I'm not the first to take issue with this but secondly because they make it clear on their webpage that they won't give your money back for ABSOLUTELY ANY REASON. Well, at least they have been true to their word on that point. (WHO DOES THAT and who runs a business this way?) TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT THAT BEFORE YOU SET UP AN EVENT WITH THE CLIPPER CLAN YOU COULD LOSE YOUR ENTIRE EVENT WITH NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT BUT A YELP REVIEW. read more
