I loved visiting Gator Country! Everyone was super nice and informative. I think this is such a lovely initiative to help remove nuisance gators but also preserve their lives and help educate the public. I had a great time! Wanted to do something different and I will say we definitely ended up learning a lot during our visit. All staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable of all their animals in their facility. They actually took their time to provide as much information possible. I recommend getting the complete package with all the food and wave pool experience. Love the goats!!! Excellent place if you want to see some gators, a bunch of them and all sizes and ages. This place is also a rehab and hospital. They promote the safety of the species. When you first walk in, there is a petting zoo for the children. We are given bags of pellets to feed the animals. (Hotdogs can be purchased to feed the gators) I can't recall how many large pens the gators are in but they have plenty of room and plenty of water to swim in. There are several talks about the difference between them but what I really enjoyed was a couple of young boys (12ish) who watched over the kiddie pool. Children can go inside and pick up your gators. (Mouths are taped shut) I asked questions and those boys had all the answers. I was impressed with them. Lunch there was standard fare, pretty good and actually inexpensive. Hush puppies were outstanding. Great family day. read more

We took our daughter to Gator Country yesterday but the whole family ended up having fun! We purchased the adventure passes so we could hold some baby alligators and it was worth it! They also let you pick any reptile, snake or furry critter with a green tag on the cage to hold and my daughter really enjoyed that. Our favorite part was probably feeding hotdogs to the alligators. We spent two hours here and got to see one of their shows to learn more about the gators. It looks to be mainly run by a bunch of teenagers and college students but they were all so helpful, knowledgeable and seemed to really love their jobs! They also had a concession stand with snacks, snow cones and beer and had a bar wrapped around a gator enclosure so you could sit and enjoy the view. Great spot to learn about gators! My boys (teenager included) and I got in a wading pool with baby gators! They teach you how to pick them up and handle them. This was definitely a highlight. There are fishing poles and you can buy hot dogs to feed the bigger gators from a bridge. It would have been great to have been given this information when we arrived and bought our tickets as opposed to after already being in the park. We also were not told about the lettuce needed to feed the tortoises. We did go back and purchase feed for the goats and other animals in the petting zoo and they were HUNGRY!! Go early before everyone gets there and starts feeding them. There was an entertaining and educational show but Big Al is definitely the star of the park. I've been by this place over 100 times or more and always wondered what it was really like or worth seeing. My wife booked an event here for our little boys 5th birthday as he's into all kinds of critters. Aside from dinosaurs, Godzilla, and bugs, Alligators rank right up near the top for him. I'm not sure what she paid, but at the last minute tracked on another $50 so the kids could experience the wading pool and pick up, touch, and handle baby Alligators!!! I'll have to say the kids really loved it and I was kind of shocked that a couple of them even really got into it!!! Seven kids from 3 up to 12 were having the best time of their little lives!!! The baby Alligators were about 2 to 2 1/2 feet long and they had their mouths taped closed so that they couldn't bite anyone. They had a Gator Country guide with our group the entire time we were there. The kids got to playwith the little gators for around 20 minutes, but I'll have to say for the kids it was money well spent. I think They could have spent their entire day in the wading pool! After that they had tables sweet up for our group of 26 under one side of the reptile houses wrap around covered porch. We brought our own drinks, water, cokes, and drink pouches as well as some snacks. One of our daughter's brought his birthday cake. She had a bakery make a cake that looked very much like an Alligator and the inside was bright red like red meat!!! After serving the cake and drinks he opened his presents then afterward the tour guide have them a tour of the inside of the reptile house with a lots of different snakes and lizards. After that several of the employees gave a little class on reptiles and snakes. I would say that if your toung ones are into Alligators, snakes, and other reptiles this would be a very neat place to hold a little party for them! I will add a little advice at this point. Try to do it not in the middle of summer!!! They said they would set up some fans to keep the party cool, but they only brought out one fan!!! Our reservation was from 2-5 and we used up the whole amount of our time. I would also recommend getting a fold up wagon like those sold at Academy to transport your cooler to your venue destination because it's a pretty good size spread. Professional and informative! Our tour guide Blake was very knowledgeable about the reptiles; sharing their unique stories and traits. He park has many alligators of all sizes in a clean, professional and safe environment for the animals and the visitors. Along with alligators they also have a separate reptile exhibit with a large selection of snakes, lizards, tarantulas and tortoises. The facilities let you get really close to the animals. Most of the alligators are rescues from the wild including some enormous 10-13 footers named Tex, Allie and Kong. You can purchase snacks such as pellets and weenies to feed the gators and lettuce for the tortoises. They come right up to you! This is a professional, safe and clean facility. read more

We have been to places similiar to Gator Country that are nasty and poorly taken care of. When we arrived at Gator Country it had been raining so it was muddy but other than that it was well taken care of. You can see baby gators all the way up to 13ft Big Tex and Big Al. At the beginning of your tour you can buy gator pellets(dogchow), hot dogs to feed the big gators and lettuce to feed the tortoises. As you get to the main building you walk into a ton of animals inside from lizards to snakes to gators to chinchillas. Anything with a green smiley face you can hold and we held a lot. So yes it's 15$ to get in and yes they have a very sad gift shop, but I was aware of those things before hand, thanks to Yelp! The young lady that gave us our wrist bands was very pleasant, and the intern that explained the different reptiles to us was full of information about them. Stopped here on our way back from Florida. This was a great place for the kiddos to come and experience all of the alligators. We were able to hold baby alligators, of course they tape their mouth's closed so that they don't bite. It was a really cool experience to see the baby gators and swarms of adult gators. On the inside they also have a lot of different types of reptiles and animals such as snakes which we got to hold, hedgehogs, chinchillas, they also had an area with a bunch of tortoises roaming around that you can pet and feed. They also had a small petting area with goats and chickens. Those goats were kind of aggressive however so be careful with the kiddos! You also can get food to feed the gators. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. We came on a day during the week that there wasn't many people at all. I'm pretty sure they must be packed on the weekends. This was a really great experience for our family especially the kids. If we drive through the area again we definitely will be back and highly recommend to anyone looking for a good adventure with the family! read more

"Y'all jus missed tha gator wrasslin" has got to be the best restaurant greeting I've ever heard. Want to feed alligators while dining on their unfortunate brother or cousin? Then Gator Country is your place! We first discovered Gator Country thanks to the big signs on I10, about an hour out of Houston. Who could resist their bright yellow cheer: "Pet baby alligators!" "Eat their Father for dinner!" (well, it wasn't quite so detailed) You can buy hot dogs at the gift shop to either throw to the gators or attach to wires to dangle off the sides of the pier leading to the restaurant. For $10 (Thursday - Sunday) you can watch demonstrations with alligators and crocodiles and explore more of the park not seen on the way to the restaurant. At the restaurant, you can eat outside on the covered porch and listen to the gators rumble and bellow or take a break inside. The ordering process was unusual. The waitress comes to your table, hands you an order pad, instructs you to review the menu, write down your order and bring it to the front where you also pay. (?) The food was simple and good. My date assured me that the fried alligator was delish. I chowed on the chicken quesadillas, still recovering from the relief that the cute gator babies in the aquarium at the entrance were not on display so that I could "pick my own" like the lobster tank at a seafood restaurant. * Gator wrestling is a once a year event where (stupid) people can sign a release that states that you will not sue when you get bitten while proving your manhood by wrestling a 5 foot alligator. * The alligators (over 130 of them!) at the park are not eaten at the restaurant. I have driven along this stretch of I-10 a few times and I always see the giant gator statue out front, scream "WE NEED TO STOP AND SEE THE GATORS," and then realize that I'm not five and there are places to go and people to see. Except this time it was different. This time I was going to get at those gators. So we swerved off at the exit, parked in what was essentially a mud pit, and made our way inside. Fifteen dollars a person?? Seriously? That almost made me turn back but I had come this far, and they probably use that money for gator conservation or something, right? Right. The girls at the cash registers were unbelievably rude. I really have no idea why. The inside contains a number of tanks and cages with various creatures inside. I got to touch a snake. So now I know what nightmares feel like. We headed outside to walk around before the "Big Al" show began. They do have a LOT of alligators on the property. Some of them will pop their heads up above water and track you as you move around their pond. Most likely because they think you are going to feed them, but it's still kind of creepy. They also have what I refer to as the "Lily Pad Pond of Horrors." We walked by what appeared to be a pond covered with lily pads, flowers, and other aquatic flora and fauna. It appeared to be empty. Then things started to move. And we realized the the entire thing was FILLED with alligators. It was cool and disgusting at the same at time. The Big Al show was fun, except for the fact that the bag of animal intestines used to lure Big Al out of his pond was placed in the hot sun directly in front of where I was seated. Things got quite fragrant. The show basically consists of the handlers badgering Al out of the comfort of his pond, which is essentially a giant mud puddle, prompting him to hiss and snap at them. I kinda felt bad for the guy. He's 84 for pete's sake (seriously. this was reiterated a lot). But he is very large and mean and when you see a man stick his arm in an alligator's mouth, you feel like you've gotten what you've come for. I'm glad I finally got to experience Gator Country, even though the price is a little ridiculous and it does border on tourist trap. One of the stars is for Big Al, who really should have some nicer digs considering what they're charging and that he is the main attraction. I will say that places in this region of the country really, REALLY want to lure you in using baby alligators. They are promoted everywhere from gas stations to restaurants (where they are hopefully not on the menu). At least at Gator Country I felt like I was able to gawk at these animals in an ethical manner, even if I grumbled about the price. read more

If you have an appreciation for funky road side attractions and an appetite for deep-fried Americana you should definitely come here- It's worth the trip and the cost of admission (which is $15, btw). So let me be straight with you, this place does not offer the slick, glossy, refinement of a well-oiled corporate machine- it's not Disneyland. It's swampy, it's hot, most exhibits and holding pens could use some upgrades and some of the employees are barefoot. This is the bayou and you should just soak it up. You will see gators and if you stay for the demonstration you will most likely learn something. Kids will love it and there are worst ways to spend an afternoon. Great place to get off the road and enjoy a gator show. Very memorable and lots of opportunities for great photos-- definitely the kind of place that the kids will remember visiting. We stopped on our way through on a road trip, but I would also stop here as a destination. Definitely worth the trip. The focus of the show is on conservation and education, so it was just as enjoyable for us adults as it was for the kids. Lots of great info-- the guy giving the presentation has been featured on animal planet, myth busters, etc and really knows how to charm a crowd. As another reviewer mentioned, they do have a couple places in their skit where they jump scare the kids sitting up front-- once with a stuffed alligator and then again with a fake snake at the end of the skit. So if that's not your thing, don't sit front and center. Personally, I felt like it kept the energy high and entertaining. They bring out several different kinds/sizes of alligators and a crocodile, explained the difference between the two, and passed around a skull so that the kids could all feel how sharp the teeth are. It was a very engaging presentation, and lasted about 30 minutes or so. Then there was a 15 minute break where you can pick up a tshirt or gator trinket, followed by a 15 minute presentation at Big Al's pond. Big Al is an 84 year old gator who clocks in at over 13 feet. One of the guys climbed in and engaged Big Al, feeding him and getting him to swim around. The sound of the jaws chomping down is like nothing else! Amazing. They also have a playground, which my kids really enjoyed. The equipment is oversized, more adult size than kid size, so my toddler struggled a little and needed a boost, but my infant loved the infant swing and my tween had a blast on the extra steep slides. Apparently, they just started offering private guided tours on their boats, as well. When we come back next time, we will definitely be doing the boat ride. It sounds like the boat tour fills up fast-- I'm not sure if they take reservations for the boat tour, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to call ahead and see if you could book the tour. We will definitely be coming back, and I'm also going to suggest it as a field trip for my son's school. read more

We stopped in at Gator Country on our way back to Houston from a vacation to Beaumont. It was probably one of the highlights of our trip. Everything about this attraction is spot on: you get to see the amazing creatures, including alligators and crocodiles, lizards, snakes, turtles and tortoises, mammals, and the main attractions -- the surprisingly immense 1000+ lbs. alligators 'Big-Tex', and 'Big-Al'. The staff is very willing to educate. They are also funny and entertain the audience with tricks like wading in a pond with the gators to feed them, and making them jump for food. You get to feed the creatures, as well. The gift shop has many products including some very well-designed t-shirts. It was a little pricey: $60 for four people, but the money goes to saving injured animals and the experience was well worth it. It definitely rates five stars!! read more

I took my mother in law and my wife's cousin here while they were visiting from SLC, UT. They were very surprised to learn that Texas really does have everything including alligators. Gator Country has over 300 living alligators hanging out for your viewing pleasure. The guys who run the place also have a show on CMT called Gator 9-11. They rescue gators from all over Texas and West Louisiana. I missed a good chunk of the show they have but came in just in time to hear one of the guys mention that the owner has only killed one alligator in his entire life, and it was because he needed to get his thumb back after the gator bit it off and swallowed it. They have a restaraunt on site but I did not have time to stay and eat so can't help much in that department. These guys put on a good show, they even let you feed the gators and hold baby gators. I very much enjoyed my visit and it sure beats a normal zoo becuase you actually see the gators and in Texas tradition the place is home to the largest gator in captivity in the USA (Everything is bigger in Texas). read more
