My Grandmothers ring is the plain band topped by my Mother's soldered, and finally my wedding ring.

My mother passed away recently and I inherited her 2 diamond ring guards. They were soldered together. I wanted to wear the the ring with my Grandmothers band and my band, but the ring kept slipping around. I went to Gaumer's in Red Bluff and while they were trying to help me a diamond fell out. It got lost and they offered to replace it and charge a nominal fee for repointing where the diamond escaped, as well as resize it. They carefully explained that it was a delicate job and that many of the points on the ring may need to be fixed, plus there was a possible problem with resizing such a wide ring. I signed a waiver, but in my heart I knew they could do it. I got a call much sooner than expected and headed down to Red Bluff. When they pulled my ring out of the envelop I almost cried. It was gorgeous! They explained that the jeweler went ahead and repointed all the diamond settings. It was polished and all set to go. Gaumer's Jewelers are magicians! And as promised the fee was nominal. It was totally worth the trip to Red Bluff. I highly recommend their fantastic work!!

Stopping thru Red Bluff?? You gotta come here for their museum :) we are from LA and come up here to visit family and always stop to look at these cool rocks. Many of them make good presents and a fun hour long excursion in a kinda boring little town. The people that work there are very kind and context clues indicate it's a family run business. Maybel Gaumer has her own case of purple assorted trinkets which are beautiful and fun to look at. You can also buy geodes here and split them! They also have fossils, shells and fine jewelry. THIS IS A MUST IF YOU ARE VISITING RED BLUFF :)

We did the 3 hour private ride and it was worth every penny! We got to interact up close with the wild horses and loved it. Yes, as some have commented the horses you see on this aren't truly wild. (they have a wild side with the real wild horses) but these horses you interact with live just about as close to wild as you will get. As much as a horse lover as I am, I really didn't know much about the situation with the Wild Horses and the BLM. Our trail guide (I wish I could remember her name, blonde super bubbly super sweet!) started in with a tour of the ranch and history of the founder Dayton and how he came to establish the sanctuary. The views are spectacular especially the lookout over the Cheyenne River. We learned that that particular spot was very important to the Native Americans as the river runs east west north and south in that location. There are carvings made by the Native Americans that are so interesting to see on the tour as well! The horses are so well cared for and we loved seeing the interaction between the groups. We had horses right in the windows of the SUV. Even my non-horse crazy fiancé had a great time. The bets part of the whole tour had to be seeing our guide and hearing about Dayton and his assistant Susan and everyone else on the ranch. To be witness to a group of people with such passion and truly selflessly helping these horses was an amazing energy to be around. For an authentic tour of the Black Hills and to help our a great cause, don't miss this while in the Black Hills!

Meet kind, generous and wonderful people who are doing exactly what they want in life? Rather than watch TV (again!) this weekend... Visit the Wild Horse Sanctuary! It's a short drive from Redding, Red Bluff, even Chico. There's a comfortable visitors' center, interesting guided tours, and of course, 5000 acres of wildland where contented horses, burros and donkeys live. These are rescue animals which would have been killed because they were no longer wanted. This is an environmentally sound, ethical non-profit organization that is good for horses, good for the planet, and good for visitors. You might even see a cute baby horse or two! The Paradise Depot Museum has become one of the few outposts keeping the local history alive, and is doing a great job. Parking is limited and associated with the city park. The museum is small and tucked into one of the old depots along the railroad connecting Paradise with Chico. This rail line delivered lumber to a matchstick factory in Chico. Fire is a common theme in California! The museum has a HO model of the railroad and artifacts from the era. After the fire, this museum now holds a lot more exhibits from the Gold Nugget Museum including a lot of the teddy bears. It is now a central repository for the city and is a good sign that Paradise will never die. I am sure the Camp Fire will eventually be part of the rugged history of the area memorialized in museums like this. While the museum is small, the feel is huge with a personal touch. These museums dot the California gold country, but the Paradise Depot Museum takes on a new role keeping the history of a bruised community together. Bruised, but not broken. Rebuilding the Ridge includes preserving the past. Just don't even think about climbing on that caboose!
