Beware. They put on a good show ... slick marketing materials, fancy offices, a slogan, etc. We hired Gayler to draw up plans for our kitchen renovation with a very specific budget. My husband and I eagerly showed up for our meeting, excited to see the plans they had prepared for transforming our '50s kitchen. After they wowed us with the renderings and all the possibilities, they showed us the estimated fee, which was approximately $200K over our budget. I almost burst into tears. After an awkward silence, the Gayler team found it appropriate to pour salt in our wounds, with a comment to the effect of, "Well, maybe you can afford it if your stocks do well this year." It was the humiliation on top of disappointment that was the nail in the coffin for us. We were already out of pocket in the thousands with Gayler, but the thought of working with them made me nauseous. So we took our money and ran ... to a contractor who was open, honest, and trustworthy. He built the kitchen of our dreams, within our budget. read more

We are in the process of a big project with the Gayler team, touching pretty much every inch of an entire house. Therefore I am currently in contact with someone from Gayler Design Build several times a week....calls, in person visits/ meetings, my many long emails with lots of questions... you get the picture. And each of those several times a week I continue to be blown away by how amazing George Gayler and his entire team are! I have rarely encountered such a responsive business, let alone anything related to construction which is notorious for poor communication and less than ideal timeliness. I interviewed many different options and found that questions were often not clearly addressed, or I had to follow up repeatedly myself to get references and see examples of past work. It was a lot of work and valuable time on my end in itself before even starting a project. George Gayler, in contrast, arrived to meet us for the first time with a folder of straight forward info on their process, what we could expect, and... several pages of references listing project scopes, lengths of time, and phone numbers any and all of which he said I could call any time as references. Wow. So I did call, many of them, and got the same bottom line from all: the Gayler Team is unmatched in their quality of work and ease of communication and project management. Time is a precious commodity and they really honor that. I get such prompt responses from George and Jessica, always throughly answering my questions and addressing any concerns. Every extension of this team has been wonderful and we could not be happier with them. Doing a major remodel in creating your ideal home is daunting and I can not imagine doing it without the Gayler team. They continue to listen and work with me, never dismissing my ideas and always helping to confirm the real possibilities and address that one dreaded word: "budget," as well as that other touchy word "timeline" which they have truly excelled with- completing phases faster than I expected and helping to keep things on track much more so that could otherwise. After interviewing multiple companies for well over 10x months we finally met George Gayler. He was professional, personable, and realistic about our project. After a few additional meetings we ended up hiring Gayler Design Build to build an outdoor pavilion. We were part of the process every step of the way. They made a point to double, and even triple check, with us before making permanent decisions. Eg: we met several times during the process to discuss the placement of the lights, fans, and heaters although this was in the original design plan. It's difficult to know how the space feels until various elements are created, so we were appreciative that we had the option to make last minute changes. They also documented everything so we had a point of reference after meetings and design choices were made. In the end, our pavilion turned out better than we expected and the quality is top notch! We wanted to remodel our master bathroom plus a laundry room and guest bathroom immediately adjacent, about 300ft2. They said to expect between $150K - $200K. We then reduced the scope significantly to only the master bath and closet, about 200 ft2. I wanted new walk-in shower/fixtures/tile, refaced cabinets, new mirrors, new tile floors and a closet upgrade with carpeting. I set a target budget of $50K. They called me and said they didn't work on these smaller projects and we now were probably not a good fit. Engage them on large projects with blueprints, designers and subcontractors and expect hundreds of thousands. For small focused projects go elsewhere. read more

They have been a Certified Green Building Professional since 2003. Co-founder of Sustainable Danville Area (SDA), Darlene Gayler was instrumental in getting portable bike racks constructed and worked with the Town of Danville to install additional permanent bike racks in the downtown area.
