I've only been to Utah a couple times. Besides the natural beauty it offers, I've discovered another reason to visit... Gear:30 in Ogden. I recently came across their website and was impressed. Not only did they have a great sale going on, they reminded me of a high-end outfitter from back home. Before making a big ticket purchase, I checked them out. These guys are legit! I was in the market for a new backpack to replace my 30 year old Camp Trails rig. I had my eye on an Osprey pack and I jumped when I saw it marked down. But that's just half of the story. I would've loved my new pack no matter where I purchased it. And I do! It's supremely comfortable. But again, that's not the point. Gear:30 is staffed by folks who love the outdoors as much as I do. You will notice this when you visit their website and do a little reading. Also, the personalized note included with my shipment was a nice touch! This review is provided to thank the gear heads at my new favorite outfitter. And secondly, to remind people that you get what you pay for. How else do you explain having a pack that lasted 30 years? I wish these guys were the Amazon of excellent gear... actually, they kinda are! I purchased a pair of Womens Chaco Sandals in a vibe-y "bone brown" color as an upgrade to my serious looking and VERY old Chaco sandals. In my google search, they were the ONLY ones to carry in my size & color. Not even Chaco website, or Nordstrom for that matter had them anymore. So glad I got to purchase from them! It even came with a hand written note from "Kylee" thanking me for my purchase. I would have paid even more to go through them instead of Amazon, tho they were the same price (or was it cheaper)? I just dropped by this place to browse because I had some time to kill and I like outdoor stores. Well let me tell you what, they have a SHOP DOG! Her breath was bad but she was a sweetheart. I wasn't going to buy anything but she sold me a pair of socks. I love dogs. Would def recommend this store. read more

CODY not only sold me snowboard boots, he made sure I understood them from head to toe and helped me understand how to reset my bindings to work with me new boots. The staff is very knowledgeable and very passionate about the outdoors. They carry top end outdoor gear that can be difficult to find if you're not shopping online. I think it's always better being able to physically handle your gear before purchasing it. Also, keep an eye out for their seasonal sales. The brands they carry are high quality, but on the pricey side. With that said, you can catch some amazing deals in store with the change of season. read more

The staff is crazy knowledgeable here and you can find essentially everything you'll need for a kick ass outdoor adventure. They also do rentals on SUP boards and tubes for a gnar gnar time on the river. Another great thing about Gear:30 are the classes. They have community classes on everything from preparing to take your family camping to woman-specific issues in the outdoors. The only downside is the cost. They're pretty expensive, so be prepared to pay a pretty penny for your gear. And that cost then at least two stars. read more

Found this gem my first visit to Utah 4 years ago. I bought the beat pair or Prana pants, a pair of awesome boxer briefs for my husband (and had a hilarious conversation with the guy that worked there) and drooled over all the gear I don't have time to use. This year I returned to to the same, just not the underwear. The women there were super nice, we chatted about our shortness and our inability to find pants that aren't too long;) I only wished I lived here so I could buy gear to use!! read more

I really enjoyed shopping at Gear30. The layout is great and the merchandise brands are top notch. The staff are very attentive and polite. Otto was especially helpful. I could tell he was super knowledgable on all the items in the store and he was also an avid outdoor enthusiast who uses a lot of what he was selling. He helped me find a really cool bamboo made shirt and it was cheaper than Icebreaker wool shirt. I couldn't ask for a better experience. I wish I had a store like that back where I am from! Great outdoor equipment selection. I found that the staff was very knowledgeable & excited to teach me about the equipment. They had a sale on winter equipment that brought me in, 60% off is awesome. Getting obviously followed like we were going to steal things here made my friend and I extremely uncomfortable and has preventing me from going to this shop again. There was no reason for my friend and I to be profiled as shoplifters. No baggy clothes, no bags, no large pockets, ect. I'll just stick to 2nd tracks and Recreational Outlet. Who both have fantastic costumer service and won't stalk you throughout the store. read more
