Trip out to the national parks. Figured my old Merrill hiking boots were fine but after 2 days of hikes, they finally bit the dust. Luckily Yelp reviews brought me to Gearheads. Love this gear shop! They've got everything you need, from knowledgeable, kind staff, great quality gear, lots of options for any kind of gear you may be looking for, and they welcome you to fill up on your water supply with big filling sinks inside the store. We badly needed to charge our camera batteries as well, and they let us charge ours while we browsed the store and stopped at the grocery store just across the street. They also have a nice selection of bulk mixes to create your own trail mix! We received great advice on where to camp and found just the gear we were looking for. Never seen anything like it as the first impression when you walk in is overwhelm . I nearly dropped to my knees as I've been in toy stores before for outdoor fun but wow, in such a small space I didn't think this was possible. There is no shot at competition in Moab for camping, hiking, outdoor clothing, knives, dehydrated food, etc. I wouldn't say this is a reliable bike source as there clearly are other options but they've got climbing gear and hats/helmets and nearly every other outdoor activity well covered! read more

Just a straight up great store! My wife and I were in Moab for the first time last week to do some camping and 4WD'ing and I knew I wanted to check out this store. I knew we could fill our water containers there and pick up any last minute items we may need. The staff at Gearheads were really awesome... super positive, friendly and very helpful. We ended up stopping in here just about everyday of our trip just to get more water and pick the brains of some of the staff. The employees really know the area around Moab and were able to give us some great suggestions for trails and campsites. The store offers a pretty extensive selection of outdoor gear at what appeared to be competitive prices. But again, the employees are what make this store a must visit. We stopped at Gearheads outdoor store to check out camping and biking gear but this place really has it all. Anything you need for camping, climbing, hiking, backpacking and biking they have it. I actually did not see any bicycles but they have all the gear. And tons of sunglasses and hats too. They also have the nicest, most helpful staff. On a Thursday morning they had at least 6 people on staff wandering around to help. They also have free filtered water with 4 faucets available to the public. When you're passing through the desert, you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find potable water fill up stations. We filled up all of our containers and bought some canteens, bear mace and some stickers for the van. Thank you so much Gearheads! read more

Several days ago I purchased 65 meters of canyoneering rope from Gear Heads. A group of us took it out to a local canyon in Moab and experienced some undue sheath wear on it's very first use. We took it back to Gear Heads questioning whether there had been some issues with this that they knew about. Not only did they answer our questions about the sheath and the potential manufacturing defect, THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE ROPE! What an unexpected surprise! They were all very prompt, polite, knowledgeable about the local canyons and concerned about the product. Huge shout out to John - we all appreciated his time and effort with the entire transaction! I've purchased a fair amount of items at Gear Heads, frankly, because they're right here in Moab where I work. The store has anything and everything to do with outdoor activities. You wouldn't think so from the outside because it doesn't look that big, but once you're inside and you see all the sections and variety you realize how much they have. Camping, backpacking, disc golf, climbing, hiking, knives, shoes/sandals, roof racks, bike racks, and so much more. Some very specific items, as well as large items like tents and packs. They had a sidewalk sale on shoes and sandals when we were there. Everything is name brand, good quality products at regular retail prices instead of marked up during busy season like a lot of places in Utah. They also advertise free filtered water! The employees are very knowledgeable and helpful, especially Jake and Ian, but everyone we encountered had the same willingness to help and friendly attitude. I overheard some of the employees talking with customers about other things during our visits to the store and they always knew what they were talking about and were giving sound advice. Probably the best gear shop I've ever seen. The relatively small storefront is literally stuffed with more useful gear than many large shops with a national presence and 5 times the square footage. I was especially impressed with the section for stoves and other backcountry cookware. Gearheads is the best shop for all your outdoor needs, especially rock climbing. The staff is filled with superb people who are super friendly and extremely helpful. Not to mention they have the best collection of climbing and mountaineering gear in the area, hands down. Not to mention, they offer free filtered water and post it every where so you do not forget before going into the desert. Gearheads has a staff who TRULY CARES about the surrounding community as well as the influx of visitors. They have clearly been in visitors' shoes and their great service reflects that. Not to mention, their reputation holds up within the community. Everyone I have met in the creek (first timers to old timers) have said they only shop at Gearheads. After today my experience today, I completely understand why this is the case. My story goes like this: I went into Gearheads after having an AWFUL experience at PAGAN MOUNTAINEERING. The folks at Pagan really screwed me over selling me the old Indian Creek Guidebook, knowing full well that the new one came out THAT DAY. They had no signs posted anywhere in the store. They did not make a single mention to me at the counter as I continued to inquire in great detail about the Creek as a first timer, solo traveler from out of state. I went to climb later that day and was made aware by some local folks that Pagan did me wrong. These same folks told me about how AMAZING GEARHEADS is and how I should shop there instead. I went back to Pagan to attempt to right their wrong. PAGAN REFUSED to admit fault, pretended they didn't remember selling the book to me, and denied the refund and/or exchange with supplemental payment for the new book. After being tossed out of their store, I went to Gearheads. The AMAZING staff at Gearheads, specifically a nice guy named Jake, not only listened to my story in full, but truly helped out a new climber to the area. They did what the people at Pagan refused to do. They allowed me to pay the difference for the new book and sent me on my way. Not to mention, they have SO MUCH MORE equipment compared to the other stores, both soft and hard goods. They can accommodate all of your rock climbing needs. Their selection of cams, ropes, belay/ rappel devices, headlamps, draws, biners, clothes, shoes (rock and hiking), tape (multiple tape options both in size and brand), chalk, and so much more REIGNS SUPREME. They are EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE about the area and can help make your stay that much better. These folks rock! Huge selection of camping, hiking and outdoor equipment and local knowledge for hiking and 4x4 adventures. John fixed my favorite knife at no cost and walked me through a backcountry map. They also helped me find what I needed to create some shade at my campsite without an upsell.
