I've been seeing Geena for a couple of years now. It takes a long time to find a stylist you'll love and I can't believe it took me 5 years to find her. My hair was dry and damaged from another stylist at a different salon in Seattle, so I had issues growing it out. Geena worked her magic: conditioned my hair, treated my scalp (no more dandruff!), colored my hair that works best with my natural hair color, removed dead ends and cuts were framed well to my face. I can't thank her enough to have soft, long and healthy looking hair again. Her shampoo/conditioner products are also 10X better than what you may be buying from target/cvs/walgreens. I visited here during phase 2 and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. You need to call ahead to book a slot. Geena will send you a detailed confirmation text explaining how the process would go. No public restroom available during this time. Her new place is small yet comfortable and very clean. I had to wear a mask the whole time but I felt fine with it. If you ever had your hair cut with Geena Before then you know she is very educated with hair. I trust her completely especially this time as my hair was a wreck this time. The previous person who cut my hair ruined it. It looked like a "dirty rats tail" said by Geena which it did! Uneven textures and layer; I couldn't even tie it up because the pony tail would be uneven YES THAT BAD! But Geena worked her magic and transformed my hair! It's now soft, light, has texture, stylish, and most importantly, I feel great in it! My hair still is very damaged so I need to stop by again in 6 weeks. I'm very content right now though. I've been seeing Geena for over three years now, and continue to do so after moving an hour away from Bellevue last year. She is worth it folks!! She recently moved into a new salon, that is hers and hers only. I was extremely impressed at how she's been handling her clients during Phase 2 of reopening. I walked into a spotless room, that she had sanitized and cleaned prior to my arrival. She does this between each client, and spaces appointments out for your safety. Yes, there are rules you will need to follow during this new normal, and she is firm on what those are, but if you listen and do everything she tells you to, then I promise that you will be one happy customer. Honestly, one of the worst haircut I received in years, wouldn't come back. Hair flipping outwards and uneven like crazy. Geena speaks very highly about herself, but honestly she needs to hear the hard truth: I am not happy with my haircut at all. It's so messy and it's very overpriced. Geena did a brief job cutting my hair then focused on styling it to cover the mediocre cut. I am totally embarrassed to go outside with the haircut she gave me. I had to book another appointment with a different salon to fix it. Another concern is, the stylist is racist. Geena called me a FOB and referred to my Asian American husband as a "banana". I found these terms very disrespectful. Geena commented on my accent, maybe she meant to compliment my accent is great for someone who wasn't born in United States, I still felt judged. I have been living in the US half my life, I don't need someone to evaluate my accent is good or not, especially when I come in for a service. It's just weird. I felt like I was constantly being interrogated, interviewed, and judged. I didn't feel comfortable at all. Geena has a demanding and bossy demeanor, it definitely wasn't a good experience. I'm not surprised another person has brought this issue up in her review as well. I also don't think the way Geena runs her salon is very professional. She sent me a lot of text messages and somewhat pressured me to change appointment one day before our appointment. I was at work and couldn't respond when she texted, then she sent more messages to pressure me, even though we already have appointment booked. The thing is, Geena requires client to give 2 day notice for rescheduling, otherwise she'll charge your card on file, meanwhile she herself could do this last minute thing. It's just laughable she's double standard. She pressurred me to move my appointment one hour earlier so she can squeeze in another client right after me. Very unprofessional move. I rather to go to those large and highly regularly salons that have designate receptionist who have no hidden agendas. I had to rush to the appointment after work because of this and I was late for 15-20 minutes. I was very apologetic, but for her to call me or the situation "annoying" in Korean right in front me (she thought I don't understand Korean) was just unacceptable. That was not a professional way to treat your client. I hope Geena doesn't reach out to harass me because I Ieft an honest review. When customer don't feel comfortable leaving honest but negative comment due to fear of retaliation, it speaks a lot about the stylist's demeanor. I know how hard it is to run a small business and I usually don't leave negative comments, but for this one I just feel obligated to warn other customer. read more

i've been sitting on this review for months now, because i felt so conflicted about it, but i'm finally gonna talk about it, because i feel like others should know about some concerning moments in my appointment overall, getting a haircut here is the epitome of dealing with a rude hairstylist for a good haircut. this is one of the reasons i didn't know if i should say something--is it worth it to say anything about someone's bad attitude if the actual haircut is good? i will also say that she clearly has a lot going on, which could be why she was so snappy and rude with me. every time i tried to console her, though, she just snapped at me even more. i even tried to share some of my own personal issues, and her response was just to criticize me. "you should have thought about that before you did that." that was uncalled for :/ she was pretty judgmental about almost everything i did. she asked me why i chose to see her, and i said proximity and her heritage; since we're both korean, i trust her to know how to handle my hair. but she took offense to this, saying, "just because i'm korean doesn't mean that i can only cut korean hair. i can cut caucasian people's hair, too!" i didn't mean to insinuate that at all. i must have really offended her, because she said, "so, you've only been to korean hair salons? you've never been to any five-star salons?" in a way that felt very elitest. she assumed things about me even before i even got there. she called me before the appointment, and when i thought she was done talking, i said, "ok, got it, thank you." when i arrived, she was very curt and standoffish, and then she said that she assumed i had a lot of kids and was a busy, strong-minded, unapproachable person because i had interrupted her over the phone (i, of course, explained that it was simply a miscommunication). i tried to show her a picture of the cut i wanted, and she said, "you don't have to show me." she explained that many customers show her pictures of cuts they want, but then they aren't satisfied with the end result bc the cut doesn't match their face shape, hair type, or personality, and then they blame her for it. she said it all in a way that suggested that she just won't cut someone's hair if she doesn't think it'll look good on them, or she'll really try to convince them not to get that cut. she explained that she educates people on their hair, and she factors this into her high pricing (she charged me $150 for a hair cut--and i didn't request anything fancy, i promise). i'm not sure about her so-called "education," though. when i expressed disappointment about my hair flipping outward, she said my hair will naturally be this way because of how it hits my shoulders. that makes sense--but then i remembered that i've gone to plenty of hair salons where they fix that problem easily with some product. so, after the hair cut, i bought some product at the store, and it was suddenly perfectly curled inward like i wanted. so then why did she say this problem couldn't be solved, and why did she say it in such a way that suggested my comment made so little sense that the very idea of it exhausted her? with this "education," she told me a lot of things, including that i should cut my hair more often. i told her that the last time i cut my hair was two years ago, and she gave me a judgmental grimace, saying, "you know you're supposed to get your hair cut every six weeks, right?" did i break the hair rules? did i offend her? no, actually, she offended me. this is the reason i decided to say something here in the end. i tried to talk about being korean-american, and she called me a banana twice. i hate this term: i'm not "yellow on the outside and white on the inside." that's such a gross, uncomfortable idea, and i really, really hate it. but being called this is one thing, and hearing her racial comments about others is another. i mentioned my husband, and she assumed my husband is white. when i explained that my husband is black, she said, "it's hard to find a nice, quiet, smart black guy lately, you know what i mean?" this was pretty shocking, and i wanted to be transparent about this, because i don't think any black person would feel comfortable getting their hair cut by her knowing that she thinks this about their people, and i would want to know this quality about someone before giving them my money before i left, she offered to send me some korean recipes and help me set up korean tv for my parents. she followed through with neither of these, but that's ok; i don't want any contact from her again. if you're ok with sacrificing an awkward hour for several months of good hair, then seeing her will probably be fine. and maybe she has changed since i saw her. maybe her personal issues have all been sorted out, and she's simmered down. i hope so, for her sake and for others'. read more

I've gotten my hair cut by Geena twice now and I've loved it each time. Geena's salon is essentially COVID-proof given that it's a one client salon. Geena tries to make her hair services a collaborative effort; she educates you on hair care, gives feedback on the condition of your hair, and then recommends a routine that suits your hair and its needs. How you take care of your hair really does impact the end results. The first time I visited Geena, my hair was in such bad shape given closures during the beginning of the pandemic. Still, Geena was able to bring my hair back to life and give it a nice "bounce". After listening to Geena's advice on how to take care of my hair, it paid off during my second visit. Geena was simply wonderful!! I found a great deal on Groupon for a partial foil, cut, and blow out and decided to give it a shot since her reviews were good. Before today, I had been getting my hair cut twice a year on average so it was not in the best shape and Geena had great tips on how to keep my hair healthy. The studio is welcoming, smaller and intimate which I liked. Geena was right on time and easily picked up on the vision I had for my hair. She was delightful from the start and super easy to talk to. After painting my hair with the dye, she offered me a beverage and magazines while I sat under the warmer.
