After reading reviews online, I scheduled an appointment with Mindy, the owner of this salon for hair color. The experience was horrible. The salon was so dirty. She put a dirty towel that was on the dirty floor on my back and neck. I felt so grossed out. I was so shocked when this happened because I never thought it would be this dirty in a salon in Bellevue area. I thought I picked a good, reputable salon for hair color. She showed many unprofessional behaviors. The hair color result was not what I expected and I have been getting hair color at different salons for 20 years. (I changed hair stylist whenever I moved to near area in WA state. I often try to find a new hair stylist close to home or my work place.) I am not new to this process (hair coloring) at all. Normally I go to Aveda salon in other area and they were able to dye my hair from original black hair with grey hairs to lighter color in one visit without highlights. I told Mindy that I wanted the root to match the color that I had before. She said that she could do that but the color came out very dark, almost black. I could dye the hair myself dark color easily at home. The price for this was 200 dollars. -- Mindy argued that she had to dye my hair dark color to cover grey hair. My regular hair dresser at Aveda was able to turn my hair into beautiful lighter color and cover grey hair beautifully. -- I will have to go to my regular Aveda salon soon to get highlights to correct the color. -- Mindy was very talkative. She got frustrated at me because she said I moved my head a lot so I was trying to relax and not talk a lot to avoid moving my head. I didn't want to upset her. She showed that she was frustrated. However, Mindy kept asking questions unrelated to hair such as "Do you have a boyfriend?" and etc while she was washing my hair. She accidentally spit on my face a few times. She expected me to keep answering her questions even during the time she was washing my hair after she was frustrated that I moved my head, the experience was so uncomfortable for me. When I relaxed and didn't respond to answer her questions quickly, she said loudly so other customers and staff can heat that I must be frustrated with her. It was the weirdest experience I ever had at a hair salon. In 20 years that I have been getting hair color at salon, this is the first time, a hair stylist doesn't let me relax. I overheard she asked a male customer next to me about his romantic relationship and she told him to propose even when he said he wasn't ready. I don't know-- I just felt so uncomfortable with all these unprofessional behaviors. -- Her dog was very cute in the salon but that was about it. I will NEVER go back. Mindy kept blaming me for weird things. For example, after the coloring process was done, I asked her for a solution to help remove the color on my skin, it was not a big deal for me. I saw she used that solution to help remove color on my face but missed some spots. I know the color will come off when I take a shower. But Mindy started blaming me and told me that hair color on my skin was one of the marks I had on my face before hair coloring process. I don't have any abnormal mark on my face prior to this. Mindy also blamed that the towel she put on my back and neck fell off because I moved. (The towel was very dirty from the beginning. I am not even sure if it had been used with others before me.) I had to use a restroom to urinate since she left the hair color on me longer that it was supposed to be because she accepted other male customers who walked in for hair cut and perm. -- Mindy then deflected and started blaming me for scheduling an appointment with her, she said that she was kind enough to let me schedule an appointment on the same day. Then she had to take other walk-in customers and kept the color chemical compound on my hair longer than it was supposed to be?! It doesn't make sense at all. She was blaming me for supporting her small business. This is why this will be the one and only time I will do business with this salon. When I called her, it seemed like she didn't have any customer so she asked me to come in right away on Tues around noon. Then when other customers showed up, she was trying to get as many customers as possible and left the hair color on me longer than normal. Then she deflected and said she had been doing this for a long time. She knew hair. She said if I experienced hair loss, she would pay 500 dollars. SAD-- I don't want 500 dollars. I just wanted to have my hair color in a normal peaceful way. If you care about cleanliness and want a professional setting in hair salon, this might not be a place that you enjoy. I have been going to salons since I was in my early 20's because I have grey hair since I was young. Now I am almost 40. I never had issue with moving and causing a towel to fall from my neck. It was so weird that the hair stylist blamed customer for a dirty towel. read more

I texted Mindy asking about a perm appointment for a Korean wave perm and she was able to get me in within one days notice. Upon entering the shop Mindy knew who I was and immediately got to work on me. She gave a very relaxing headwash to begin our service and proceeded to do a quick trim before putting in the curlers. The shop was clean and pleasant and there was even a cute dog basking in the sunlight! Mindy was very skillfully placing in the curlers and knew exactly what pattern to do on my head to get the "K-pop" look, after rinsing out the perm solution she finished the service with another trim and styled my hair before letting me go. My old hairstylist moved out of state, and coupled with quarantine and salons being closed, I hadn't gotten my hair done in at least 6-7 months. It honestly looked like a complete disaster (see the attached before pic and you'll see exactly what I mean). One day I stumbled across Ivan's Instagram (@ivan_does_hair). I was impressed with his work and immediately booked an appointment with him. Let me just say that I'm SO glad I did. Ivan is incredibly talented at what he does. I showed him some inspiration photos of what I wanted, and he absolutely nailed it. He also gave great hair care tips and recommended some products to keep my hair looking and feeling healthy. I've been using them since my first appointment, and I feel like my hair is in the best shape it's ever been in. In addition to his incredible hair skills, he's also a great person to talk with - very easygoing, kind, and genuine. I've only had two appointments so far, but talking to Ivan is so natural and it feels like we've known each other for years instead of months. I WAS a Brazilian blow out virgin. Ok, I said it and owned up to it. My current stylist has very limited availability nowadays, so I was looking at a place to get my hair did. Initially I scheduled a haircut with Mindy, mostly to scout out the place and I've been curious about getting my hair straightened again. I actually do not like getting chemicals in my hair. I no longer do highlights or dye my hair because it dries it out and I'm actually proud of the grays I so rightfully earned! Ok, enough about my idiosyncrasies. My appointment with Mindy went well - she was pretty freaking funny - she reminds me of my auntie on Guam, who is also a stylist. I also had a consult with her while I was there regarding straightening options. I could do the Japanese straight perm (which I've had in the past) or I can do the Brazilian blow out - which does not chemically change my hair. I opted for the Brazilian blowout. Fast forward to 2 weeks later, when I thought I was scheduled to have the Brazilian blowout. Well, there was a scheduling snafu and my 3 hour appt was cancelled. It was a good thing I called to confirm a few days before. Thao was able to fit me in a few days later, which was very important since I was leaving for S. Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Japan. I wanted to see how my hair would do in these humid places. Anyway, Thao and Mindy tag teamed me and we were able to get it done! They graciously offered to get me food since I was there for so long, but I declined, I had a hubby cooking dinner for me at home. ;) Now I am so glad I did the Brazilian blow out - it's been 2 months and I've barely used my straightening iron, maybe less than 5 times. Just don't ever bleach your hair, ESPECIALLY here. You know what... take my 5 stars back. Sadly. I could pursue legal accountability with what a terrible second experience I just got today! I don't want to be that person, but when you leave with 50% of your hair in tact without even getting a haircut something has got to give. I went for a root touch up since my last review from the 1 inch grow out and this is the massive "first clump" of hair to fall out of my head. Chunks of my hair was coming out before I even got to tone, then I'm the chair this time entire chunk was hanging off the ends of my hair!!! So I left before they could do anymore and it fell in my lap on the drive home!!!! Then it got blamed on the toner COLOR I selected! I am so hurt. I STILL have my hair falling out now! Bleach was put directly on my scalp all over my head from 11:30am and rises out at 2:00pm! I have 1" hair around the entire nape of my neck up the back of my head and the front right crown. There is NO WAY TO FIX THAT. I'm so upset, mostly because I really like this owner and want to wish her the best but you can't do this to people!!!! I have to walk around like this. I'm soooooo glad I came to Mindy's salon! I was in search of someone who knows how to cut Asian hair on the east side and decided to give this place a try based on the positive reviews! Making an appointment: Super easy. You can text her to schedule a time. Mindy is so personable and friendly we hit it off right away! (Major plus she even gives you wine, love love love!!) I talked her through the style I wanted (a longer bob) and she projected a lot of confidence that made me feel at ease. I've always had long hair so this was a big switch up for me. Throughout the haircut she was very considerate and checked in with me on the length of my desired longest/shortest length. She even spent a lot of time showing me how to blow dry and style the cut so it always looks on point! Price: $50 for a haircut. Very reasonable. It includes wash, cut and style. The haircut was about average. Kinda looks chopped off rather than a professional haircut. Charged $85. The kicker was that while Mindy was cutting my hair, she coughed on me and didn't cover up . Like girl please. It was multiple times too. And she often will get up and tend to other customers or go to the back and do something else during the middle of the haircut. I wasn't in a rush, but I know some people wouldn't appreciate that. Anyways. Not the best service. I don't think this salon deserves a 4 star over all. Maybe like a 2.5-3 in my opinion. read more

She's a great lady, very easy to talk to and I loved the coloring results at the end though I didn't quite get the curtain bangs requested...the whole process should take around 2 hrs but there r multiple customers under mindy's care at the same time so I had to wait for some time, but her puppy was really cute and friendly so it was worth the wait!! If I could give zero stars I would. AVOID this hair salon with a 10 ft pole!!I requested an appointment for my daughter via text message and was supposed to start at 10am. The language barrier is real and look, I am Asian and very compassionate with ESL individuals, but it is a deterrent to her business. The owner was busy with another client and then my daughter sat down on a dirty chair and was asked what she wanted done. She has previous highlights that were growing out and we wanted those filled and more blonde. She toots her own horn and said she is excellent at coloring hair. She tells me to leave and come back in 4 hours. I didn't leave but observed the whole time and was shocked at how long she took. She took 7 hours, leaving my daughter for hours with product in her hair, splashing bleach and product on her face, grabbed unclean brushes with previous clients hair in it and constantly confused and misplacing supplies. Her hair was a total disaster and she had the audacity to charge 100 for each hour of color and 85 for a cut. I refused to pay the full amount as my daughter was left for HOURS while she was tending to other customers and ultimately damaging her hair. She should NOT be in business and her business practices are NOT ETHICAL nor is she competent in her craft. Her salon is Filthy and should be sold off to another salon. When contacted regarding my disappointment she made excuse after excuse stating that Saturdays are busy for her,thenWHY THE HELL DID YOU TAKE THE appointment, that she could "fix it" and that I forgot to pay 85 dollars for her crappy cut. Thao is the BEST! My first experience at lotte salon was AMAZING! You get treated like Queen and they spoil you like princess. I wanted to retouch my hair color and I found Thao on yelp. I made an appointment and I just couldn't wait to see her and have an experience at lotte hair salon. Mindy and Thao welcomed me with smile and glass of fruits wine ( it tested so good!!) Great service and friendly staff!! I came in for a bleach for my black asian hair to get it to a platinum blonde. I was scared that my hair would feel very dry and damaged after all the bleaching since it was such a long process (around 7 hours!!) but thanks to the hair treatments I got, my hair was actually surprisingly soft and less damaged than I expected. Both Thao and Mindy worked on my hair while I was there and they are both super friendly!! Since I was at the salon for so long, Mindy treated me to a steamed bun and bubble tea, which was very unexpected but I thought was super sweet gesture :) Overall, I am happy with the result in the end. There were some small yellow patches in my hair that I was worried about but they came out right away after some purple shampoo. However, one small thing is that I do wish that there was more communication during the whole process about what stage in the bleaching process I was in/how much longer the whole process would take. A lot of the times, I was sitting in the salon chair waiting for my hair to process while the stylists went to work on other clients and I wasn't sure if they forgot to come back to me or if I was supposed to wait for my hair to process for that long. Nevertheless, I would still recommend Lotte to any of my friends, I'm happy to have found a salon that knows how to properly work with Asian hair :D read more

I got a haircut and perm from Mindy, who was really thoughtful about how she could accommodate the style I wanted while tweaking it so that it fit my actual hair type. She was transparent about how she'd approach cutting my hair and respected my requests. She was also incredibly sweet and careful about making sure that she didn't damage my hair in the process of perming it. Note: Mindy prefers to use the cold perming process because it does less damage to our hair, so make sure you're really explicit about whether you want a hot or cold perm! I get my color done by Ivan. I followed him from Gene Juarez and he is THE BEST. Ivan had been coloring my hair since 2018 and Ive always been SOOOOO happy each and every time. He's perfected the foliage technique so the color blends oh so well. To my fellow Asians.... This is the one. No orange/red hues. He's honest about whether a color will work for you or not. It's surprisingly hard to find a good Asian hair salon despite how large the Asian population is in Eastside. Finding a new hairstylist is always a tricky business, and spending my summer here I knew I needed to find someone I could trust. In the past, I've had bad experiences at western hair salons because my hair is really thick and straight. I also have layers and preferences done from my hair salon back at home and really needed to find a place to keep them intact while I get a trim. Luckily I found Lotte Hair Salon. According to Mindy, Lotte Hair Salon used to be a Korean hair salon she worked at, until they went out of business and she decided to take charge. Mindy and Thao are both Vietnamese, but Mindy decided to keep the name for some reason even though she lightheartedly complains about Korean customers coming into the salon. Mindy's part of the character for Lotte Hair Salon. I'll be honest, when I first visited I was taken aback by Mindy's personality. She's honest, outgoing, and brash at times. During my first cut with her she would run back and forth answering the phone, which I admired but also was worried she was losing her attention from my haircut. Making appointments over the phone with Mindy is also an interesting and frustrating experience as she can be a little impatient at times and her accent is a little tough to understand. But at the end of the day she reminds me of any immigrant parent: you need to be tough and resilient to survive in this world. My later appointments were with Thao as she is how should I put it...less intense than Mindy haha. She's experienced as well and works part time at a high end hair salon and I honestly feel more comfortable with her. It's easy to explain what I want with her and to hold a conversation as well. She also seems to be an avid Yelper and runs the whole social media ship for the hair salon pretty well. I now recommend Lotte Hair Salon to any friend that needs to get a cut living in the Eastside area. It's frankly a lot cheaper than the options available and you're sure to get a decent cut.
