Despite the crowd, the service moved surprisingly fast and the whole experience felt well organized. You pay based on cone size rather than by the scoop, which means you can load up on flavors without the guilt of counting portions. I went with pistachio, mango and blueberry cheesecake, and the combination worked beautifully. What really sets Amorino apart is the presentation, the staff shape the gelato into a stunning flower design that almost feels too pretty to eat. I also grabbed a Nutella crepe which was every bit as good as it sounds. Beyond the gelato there are plenty of options to explore including their famous macarons, so it is worth taking a moment to browse before you order. If you are walking through the Baixa area, this is an easy and very rewarding detour.

I frequent the one in the ROD so it was not a shock when I dragged my friends in. It's the exact playbook as the one in Houston. You get in line, place your order and then choose your flavours. I went with my good ole faithful waffle with two scoops (hazelnut chocolate and salted caramel) of gelato and topped it off with hazelnut drizzle. The total was about $6.40 which is way cheaper than it is in the states. It was just as delicious and very much worth it. It's easy to find in you're in the Baixa area of Lisboa. Just follow the path.

We did the strawberry, fior di latte, and one other flavor which I am blanking on. The strawberry was good but it was sorbet, which is not what I was expecting. But the fior di latte was amazing, which is basically just cream. It was very smooth and not too sweet. I probably would have been happy with this one flavor. Sad that the locations were so far away from where we were staying but happy we go to try it.

I ended up going with the basil, hazelnut, pistachio and port wine in a sundae. If you choose the large size you can have only 3 flavors and it didn't come in a cup, and being the greedy gelato glutton that I am, plus not wanting to drip melting gelato all over myself, I went with the larger sundae. The crunchy hazelnut topping was delicious. This, along with the port wine and basil flavors really stood out to me and were the highlights of this experience. The basil tasted refreshing and green, great palate cleanser between bites of the other flavors. If I hadn't already had gelato at a couple other places in Lisbon on this trip I may have given this spot a 4, but it lost a star for a few of reasons. 1) the sizes weren't very convenient or straightforward--as mentioned above, the largest non-sundae size didn't come in a cup, it was cone-only. Not sure if it was bc they ran out? the €7 sundae was 3 scoops but you couldn't choose the flavors, so it kinda forced me to choose the €8 one. 2) not sure if it was bc it was in a gourmet food hall but the prices were slight higher than your average stand-alone gelato spot. 3) maybe bc this particular spot (though to be fair they showcased the original location, not this one inside a mall), was hyped up by a couple of foodie shows stateside, but my expectations fell a little flat. Aside from the port wine, I felt like the pistachio and hazelnut had a bit more punch and creaminess at other places I tried. If I had a chance I'd give the original location a shot but I wouldn't go out of my way to try this location in lieu of other gelaterias.
