Staff was super helpful when we came in and very friendly. Went in search of gelato and ended up here unexpectedly. Had my doubts with the soft serve aspect but it was great! Highly recommend for a place to sit and eat your gelato.

Not your normal ice cream parlor We were strolling through Florence's narrow cobbled streets and saw this. Looked new and different. We entered and they welcomed us and explained their work and how they sell gelato by weight. It was 24 euro/kg. You get the cup/cone and you can choose your choice of flavor, and get the chance to operate the machine. Choose your toppings and they will weight it and tada... It was cool, what more cooler was their ambiance and scene. Swings coming out from the ceiling, Wallpaper, cute tables-all making it super cute and "don't wanna leave' place. I also ordered hot chocolate and believe me I was drinking p**S in the USA. This hot chocolate was really thick, felt I am drinking melted chocolate. So happy with their gelato-coffee and their cool ambiance. You have to come and try this.

The cutest swings to sit on! Like you are eating ice cream / gelato in the park!

Great fun place!! Fantastic Gelati Espressi - many flavors to choose. Such nice employees! Fun playful Swings to sit on ...Like you're in a Park. Beautiful painted Trees, grass & sky on the walls & ceiling. Dessert is weighed on scale for cost. Cups or cone. Lots of toppings. Upstairs as well. My mix; Tiramisu & Chocolate with Raspberry topping, cookie crunch crumbles, and marshmallows.

    A perfectly styled cappuccino!

If the espresso bar side is closed, you can go to the gelato side and they have the pistachio and orignal there as well. The full menu is only available at the espresso bar. I ordered the hazelnut and it was delicious. I still dream of this affogato. Smooth, rich, perfect mix of sweetness and bitterness. I do think this is worth a stop if you are in Florence.

The seed was planted, so I made it a point to check out Vivoli when I was in the Saint Croce neighborhood. There appeared to be 3 queues at Vivoli: one for the cafe/bistro, one for the gelateria, and one specifically for affogato. I think it was possible to get the affogato from the first queue, but I stood in the affogato only line just to make sure. The queue moved pretty quickly. I probably waited around 15-20 minutes to place my order, which I did on a self-serve automated kiosk. I gave my ticket/receipt to a barista after paying, and then she started working on my drink right away. The process of making the affogato was very fast, and it was fun to watch. I noticed that unlike a regular affogato back in the USA, which is typically one big gelato scoop, Vivoli fills half a cappucino sized cup with gelato and then adds scoops around the edges to form a square shape. I got pistachio, so the gelato gets dipped into chopped pistachio bits. (The pistachio bits did add a nice texture.) Lastly, fresh espresso was poured in. Vivoli had a counter that could fit about 3-4 standing persons. Other than that, there's no where to sit inside the affogato storefront. Mostly everyone else tried to find a spot outside to enjoy their affogato. Although I did enjoy my affogato, I didn't find it particularly different than one I've tried back at home. It was just the prettiest.

I made it my…read moreintention to try as much gelato as I could in the city so when we had some down time post-lunch we thought that a little sweet would hit the spot. To be transparent, one of the things that drew me to La Strega was the name, I wanted to see what was so witchy about this gelato - and of course the positive reviews helped. The gelateria itself was lovely - soft music playing with intricate decor and a good amount of space. There were a few chairs and stools in case you wanted to sit and enjoy, though they were a little awkwardly placed. There were several flavors of gelato as expected - instead of being on display they were in tubs covered in lids. I heard that's the "proper" way to store gelato as it remains fresher, though the jury is still out for me on that one. Anyway, I got the smallest cup size where I was able to choose two flavors - so I went with the cream and the chestnut. The gelato was really good - creamy with great flavor. Service was great, and overall this was a solid gelateria - La Strega is definitely worth stopping into when in Firenze.
