Superb and no line, exactly what you want. Forget the other place around the corner and come here.

This is the best gelato in Florence! There have been two very nice people working every night we have been. If there is a line, it moves quickly. My favorite is the pineapple, strawberry for my husband, and my daughter gets something different each night. Today my husband and I tried a different gelato shop simply because of our location and we both agreed, big mistake. We returned to Rivareno that evening.

    STRAWBERRY AND STRACCIATELLA UNDEFEATED!

I have learned much in my short time in Firenze, but perhaps no more important or impactful than the following statement: If gelato is displayed as visible, turn and SPRINT away like Usain Bolt at the 2012 London Olympics or Tom Cruise in any Mission Impossible movie. Gelato should be served ONLY in a stainless-steel container that is completely covered, and with a metal spade as opposed to an ice cream scoop. This is exactly how Rivareno does things. The beautiful thing about this place is that it is not overrun with tourists yet, the cat is still in the bag. You have the rare opportunity to see a Leonardo that has yet to be attributed. I got the Stracciatella (obviously) and strawberry. An odd combo, I know, but I'm kind of an odd guy. The strawberry was the best fruit flavored gelato or ice cream I have ever had and the stracciatella was everything I wanted it to be and then some. Also, they have a cone cup. What an innovation. Sometimes I get so excited over the most random little things, this cone cup is a true feat of Italian engineering. When you think gelato, you should think Rivareno. THANK YOU RIVARENO!

I'm currently studying abroad in Florence and this is probably my favorite spot so far. I once went 4 times in one week! The gelato is always so delicious and they occasionally rotate the flavors to keep variety. My friends and I all love this place and have been so many times. Good prices too. I highly recommend making this a stop if you're ever in Florence!

I have tried a lot of gelato, but this one has got to be my favorite in Florence. So creamy and smooth-- not icy! This place is very authentic and the staff is always so smiley. The place is small but still has a few places where you and sit and chat.

It's not just a gelato place, it's a gelato laboratory!!!

Tried many famous gelato. This place is my favorite. Hazelnut is my favorite. Other places I tried was too sweet but this one was just right and very creamy. Definitely one of the best!!!

That blue counter slowly changes colors. Keep an eye out as you pass by, because it may not be this shade of blue.

My daughter and I stumbled into this place today. The first thing one notices from the street is the glowing counter that slowly changes color. On entering I first noted that, rather than artfully displaying the gelato in the window as with most places in town, the gelato was all under stainless steel lids. That got my attention. Then the menu revealed some very inventive flavors. Rather than get the small that we usually get we went for a medium, which is the same price as the small cups at most places over near the Duomo. And, holy cow, were we glad we did. My daughter got Hazelnut and Almond. They were intense. Just amazing. I ordered the Alice (say ah-LEE-che), with mascarpone and chocolate, plus a Crema Fiorentina - a custard with hints of citrus. Oh. My. God. We both agreed it was the best gelato we've had. I was not surprised to get to Yelp tonight and find that others agree. It's a little away from the touristy parts of Florence. That's a feature, not a bug. Take the short walk. You'll be glad you did. UPDATE: We went back today. Daughter had (very dark) cioccalato and cinnamon. Yes, cinnamon gelato. Out of this world. I tried the New York, New York (maple syrup and toasted pecan): Smoother than Sinatra in his prime. And Limone, which is just intensely lemon. We have no plans to get gelato anywhere else on this trip. If there is better gelato anywhere on the planet, please oh please tell me where it is. FINAL UPDATE: We have been back every single day since discovering the place. Each time we wonder if it can be as good as we remember, and each time it's that good or better. We are going to miss this place terribly. As part of my farewell copa I had the Lavender and Red Currant. Stunning. If you are in Florence, you need to come to Rivareno. Period.

After 19 straight days of gelato, Rivareno is the best gelato I've eaten in Italy. Salted caramel is to die for.

From what I've seen, it tends to be more crowded in the afternoon than in the morning, and that matched my experience. The line looked long at first, but there are actually two lines you can join, so it moves more efficiently than it seems. From getting in line to receiving my affogato, the whole process took about 20 minutes. Most people grab their affogato and sit along the street to enjoy it before bringing their dishes back. It's a fun, casual atmosphere and well worth the wait if you're in the area.

We came to Florence on a cruise and probably one of the hotter days of this year. We showed up at Vivoli and clearly the Tik Tok went viral, because it was very crowded. We waited in line and it moved rather quickly. We debated on ordered the regular and the pistacchio, but decided to go with the regular affogato. Upon ordering and entering the establishment, it gave off the cutest old time coffee shop vibe. The staff was working diligently to process orders. We watched this well-oiled machine of a staff for several minutes while they passed out 10-15 affogatos within 30 seconds. We sat on the curb and enjoyed ours in the glass cups they gave us. This was a highlight for us. The creamy gelato with espresso on the spoon was perfect for a hot day. I hope this business continues to thrive and I look forward to recommending it to everyone I know heading to Florence.

To be transparent, one of the things that drew me to La Strega was the name, I wanted to see what was so witchy about this gelato - and of course the positive reviews helped. The gelateria itself was lovely - soft music playing with intricate decor and a good amount of space. There were a few chairs and stools in case you wanted to sit and enjoy, though they were a little awkwardly placed. There were several flavors of gelato as expected - instead of being on display they were in tubs covered in lids. I heard that's the "proper" way to store gelato as it remains fresher, though the jury is still out for me on that one. Anyway, I got the smallest cup size where I was able to choose two flavors - so I went with the cream and the chestnut. The gelato was really good - creamy with great flavor. Service was great, and overall this was a solid gelateria - La Strega is definitely worth stopping into when in Firenze.
