Gelston is an amazing photographer. We used him for our wedding two years ago which came out absolutely perfect, like rainbows and sun beams perfect. We just engaged him again for a maternity photoshoot and we were so thankful to have him shoot for us. In my opinion there's two things to consider, aside from how the photos turn out, obviously a big one, the other major consideration is how they work with you during the shoot itself. Our memories are captured as much in the experience as they are in the photos. And it's clear he is a professional, he brought his lighting expert Pete, and these guys are about the craft. They helped pick an epic location with multiple scenes, and Gelstons doing whatever it takes to get the right shot, from guiding the subject (my wife), to watching shadows and working the sun light, to laying on the jungle floor to get the right angle. We never felt rushed and he made sure we got every shot we wanted. And I can't overstate the value of having a legit lighting guy, that's how you know this is a caliber service. I've been working with Gelston Dwight for two years and we've completed 7 photo shoots together. He is an amazing photographer, and is my GO TO. I first worked with Gelston to capture my fitness progress as I had lost 60 pounds. I loved his straightforward, direct, honest approach. He said "Fitness posing can be challenging as it's often overdone and unflattering. I prefer to focus on beauty and form. But it depends on what you're after." I signed up immediately. We worked together to develop a "concept" and the rest is history. I was nervous for the first shoot, but relaxed instantly in Gelston's presence. He is a PRO! We shot in a wide variety of locations: banyan trees, lava rocks, ocean, sand, ponds, and with an array of "looks." It was invigorating and inspiring! As a photographer, Gelston is a keen listener and invests of himself wholeheartedly in a shoot. He will manage the entire process (posing, lighting, site location). And he will go to great lengths to get just the right shot. He also works with some of the nicest people you'll ever meet (lighting technicians). The output of Gelston's photography is STUNNING. The reason I chose him is that his work is truly a work of art. The images are not static--they capture the image in an artistic way, including the FEELING and the SURROUNDINGS. His work "comes alive" and the images become even more treasured as time passes. As my husband and many of my friends have shared: his work belongs on the cover of a magazine. We've completed adventure photo shoots in Kauai in various locations: Wailua Falls, Honopu Beach, Waimea Canyon and a variety of ocean locations. We've just completed our first international shoot in Ireland. Gelston will always discuss the pro's / con's of a shoot, to make sure his clients are realistic, and the outcome is a good one. I'm in LOOOOVE with my wedding photos! Gelston did an amazing job! While I was planning my wedding, I asked around for wedding photographer suggestions and a few people recommended him. I'm so happy we went with him. Anyway, I contacted Gelston a couple times prior to the wedding via email and he was pleasant to deal with. Very friendly and professional. He answered all my silly questions and put me at ease. He's super chill and easy to work with, which made our wedding day pretty relaxing. On the day of my wedding, I left everything up to him. I didn't have any suggestions or too many requests. I left the creativity up to him, I mean, he's the professional, so I figured to let him do his thing. He captured all the right moments (and by the right moments, I mostly mean he got "the kiss" perfectly. haha. i always wonder what happens if a photographer spaces out and misses that moment. do you ask for a re-do?). He got so many different shots during the ceremony, he must've been running from here to there and back cause he got all kinds of shots. And I didn't even notice! We got married at the Waimea Plantation Cottages and we got some AMAZING photos in front of the banyan trees and as I'm not that thrilled about the yucky brown sand on the West Side, the contrast of the dark sand and my dress looked great! It was really fun. I can't stop looking at the photos. LOL. Gelston posted our online gallery really quickly and we received our photos on disk in the mail very shortly after that. Speedy! WARNING - Avoid this guy, he's a nightmare....read for yourself. Update 5/10/16: I'm downgrading Gelston's business to a zero because he has now put our private wedding ceremony pictures online for the public to see, without our permission! He will remove it if we remove this review (yes, blackmail). THIS is type of unprofessionalism you will be dealing with if you work with Gelston. I can't believe he would stoop to this level. We merely wanted to warn others so that they would ask all the right questions up front so they could avoid the horrible experience we had. And what we got for it was our private ceremony out there for everyone to see. We are contacting our lawyer, as this invades our privacy since he did not get our permission to do so. We were extremely disappointed, for 3 main reasons. 1) Half of them turned out too bright. You couldn't tell it was sky and ocean behind us, it was mostly bright white. Why have a beach wedding with an ocean behind you and not be able to see it? When we told him this, he said "it was a bright day". Well, I'm sorry, but it was actually overcast and just before sunset. But even if it were, you are a professional photographer, you should be able to adjust your equipment to not have the result of bright white background. 2) We were of the understanding that we would get all the pictures he shot. We even paid for an extra half hour so we'd have a lot to choose from. Well, he did the choosing, narrowed it down to about a hundred shots and deleted the rest. Deleted! Of our special day...without enabling US to choose! So I didn't end up with any good shots of me and my brother (very important to me), even though many were shot of us. He chose one where a person's eyes were closed. About 5 pictures had bra straps showing. One had a hand on a shoulder (a no-no in pictures). A couple had funny looks on the bride's face. But we had no recourse, he deleted the rest...couldn't believe it, as cheap as storage is these days, he should keep them all until his client is happy with the selection! 3) We had the impression that his wedding photography service would include him touching up the photos, at least a chosen dozen or so. We even made comments to that effect during our personal photo shoot with him and he didn't say otherwise. But when we got them there was no touch-up that we could tell. He claims there is "light" touch-up. We tried to work with him to rectify each of these but for #2 above, nothing he could do, as he deleted all those he didn't choose. For #1 and #3 he gave us a quote of over $700 to correct the lighting on and do touch-up on less than half the photos. We were shocked. So if you are considering Gelston, just make sure you ask up front (and good idea to get it in writing) of how many shots you will get, who will choose those shots, and what kind of touch-up you should expect (and if he says "light", know that you won't be able to tell any touch-up was done). These are actually questions you should ask before engaging with any photographer for your wedding (or special event). Wish we had known. Gelston contacted us after we wrote this review. Unfortunately, it was not to try to correct any of the above, it was to ask us to change the review. But the above is fair and the truth. I just wish his call were about trying to rectify our disappointment in our wedding photos. :-( read more

Gelston did a phenomenal job with our wedding photos. He was very efficient and professional. We wanted a casual, easy going atmosphere to our wedding. He captured the atmosphere perfectly. He gave great direction as to how he wanted us to stand/pose/position, and he was very open to our ideas of what photos we wanted to take. Additionally, he did not push the coffee book option or for more wedding coverage time. Our photo CDs were in our mailbox by the time we got home for our honeymoon! More importantly, he was able to coral our entire wedding group of 65+ guests to get into a group photo. I have never looked better and specials thanks to Gelston for capturing the memories of our special day. read more

We paid money for 50 images that are total crap. My husband took better pictures with my iPhone. All of the angles were wrong and many of our pics didnt showcase the scenery which is what we asked for. He shot the pics bottom up which make you look heavier. The white balance is off in most pics so its a white out or so bright you cant use the pic. Some of the pics have us sitting in the sand and the photographer didnt even tell me that my dress was twisted. I look like my boobs are coming our off my arm or that my arm has a crease. My family was shocked also. Many of them said well maybe there is one you guys can use. So all of this pics are completely unusable. We literally don't have enough to make an album. The photographer even shot some of my other jewelry that was in the suite as he assumed and didn't ask if they were the wedding rings. They weren't! He shot 2 pics of costume jewelry. It was a complete disaster. I'm 37 and my new husband said these pics make you look like you are 60 years old. Ladies, have a friend take the pics next time or go with someone with more experience. read more

Gelston is an incredible photographer with the upmost level of professionalism. For our tenth wedding anniversary, we chose Gelston to capture the vow renewal ceremony and photos of our family. We have so many incredible images from the special event because of his expertise and discriminating eye for capturing every detail. Not only did he clearly direct each shot of my husband and myself, but he was able to capture amazing images of our 6 year old son and 3 year old daughter too as well as precious family photos (despite the rain during the event). Which was definitely quite a job! We have the photos displayed in our home and ALWAYS get compliments about the photos he captured and his photography style. I cannot express in words my sincere gratitude for the photos Gelston captured especially since I will appreciate the images for years to come. My wife and I wanted to capture the great scenery along with a large amount of weight we had lost. We called Gelston, he met us and made us feel very comfortable. He was very professional and took his time. He even asked us if there was any other shots we wanted him to get. He gave us a great money saving tip for developing the photos when we got home which I thought was really nice. I can't wait to go back and have him do another shoot of us again, my wife loves how it captured us forever on a very beatiful Island.
