Visited at 10:00am on a Tuesday morning, which is a great time to visit! I felt welcomed when they sat me down and asked what I would like to drink. They have a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The facility is clean and updated. Linda did my pedicure and she did an excellent job! I appreciate her eye for detail! Before she painted my nails, she asked if I approved the nail shape and if there was anything that I wanted them to fix. Also, she showed me the timer to show that my foot massage is according to the time I was paying for. We had a great conversation and she was very nice. Kori did my manicure and she was also very nice. She also asked if my nail shape was good before she continued. Although metered parking is available on the street, I parked on the residential street for free. I will definitely return to this business. I usually go here for my nails and toes and the last time I went the lady who did my nails used really strong glue like I've had them on for a month now that's how strong the glue is and I had accidentally hit one of my nails recently and it literally broke and took off my actual nail and it was extremely painful now I have a broken nail that is partially detached and not only that it did it to my pinky nail as well so I will not be going back here again and the worst part is that there's nothing that anyone can do about my broken nail and I cannot even take the rest off so now I will have to find a new nail salon to go to that can remove the nails without taking off my actual nails too read more

I'm more sad than unhappy. I saw someone's nails and thought they were gorgeous and asked her where she got it done. She recommended Gem Nail and a certain person. I was sssoooooo excited to go to this appointment. I got there and the lady at the front desk gave me an attitude and I felt so embarrassed to be there. The salon is nice, the massage chair sucks, but they offer you any type of beverage, which is cool. Then this lady came and I thought, oh she's so pretty and she was sweet too. Closed my eyes to rest thru this process and opened my eyes to the famous Angela Johnson crooked nail. I asked this person to fix it and she just briefly filed one side. She seemed very annoyed that the nail she put on was crooked. I had given up and just paid and left. I drove an hour in traffic to get here but that will never happen again. read more

I really wanted to like this place and it be my new go to nail salon, but that's definitely not the case. I asked about prices before I got sat down and the lady told me $35 for gel manicure and $25 for pedicure. While being seated I did agree to some add ons but made sure to ask prices. I agreed to $10 for fairy dust (the nail tech was trying to sell me on $15 for chrome I said no) and $7 for callus removal. The total should've been $77 and I paid cash but they charged me $82? I'm guessing they charged me for the chrome instead of fairy dust. If I paid for it then they should've at least given me chrome nails. I had told the nail techs it has been a while since I've had my hands/feet done and I felt like they judged me when they saw my hands/toes. The person who did my toes lifted my feet up to show the nail tech and they laughed. It made me really uncomfortable the rest of the time I was there. They also asked why I didn't get gel on my toes and I answered them the nail tech doing my hands almost look like she rolled her eyes. I still left them a tip even if I didn't exactly enjoy my service and got over charged. read more

I came in this morning to have a full set and a pedicure . Unfortunately i was NOT HAPPY at all. & i come here all the time, i live up the street and its super convenient for me. However. Todays visit was just bad the guy was 10 min late for my 9:30 appt. I let him know i wanted short french tip, he stated that wasn't sexy... excuse me, what? My right thumb looks so much shorter the white line fir the french tip design is totally off. My nails are totally crooked i really didn't care for the service or the quality at Gem nails. New to the area and looking for a nail salon. I had a pedicure here and I wasn't impressed. I got a lovely spa pedicure. First of all (and most importantly) the tools used on me were from a bin on a cart, not a sanitized package. Secondly, the spa pedicure included a foot and leg massage but it was barely that. Just rubbing my skin. Lastly, when the nail tech was done she just said "10 minutes to dry" and left me awkwardly sitting in the chair. No offer to dry or told where to go. I came in yesterday for the second time and had an interesting experience. There are just a few of the nail techs that have smiles On their face and will say hello / how are you to their customers. I had the same lady twice now (name begins with Y- I only know her name from her Venmo from the lady at the front ) her attitude and lack of customer service left me feeling more of a burden than a customer. Her as well as the woman doing by pedicure were both laughing to themselves. The woman who did my nails is often on FaceTime with her son or on the phone while doing my nails, which is completely unprofessional. There are a few others who will treat their customers like they are wanted there however the two I had did not make me feel welcome at all. Also, they only offer drinks to some customers and not all. I had to ask for one after seeing another customer with a drink, which is what they offer at their salon. I have found better customer service down the street for much cheaper / will not be returning here It is a shame because they have a great quality of work but terrible attitudes when you sit with them. read more

I have been a loyal customer at gem nail bar for the last 4 years, however yesterdays visit will be my last. I had Diem Do as my manicure technician. I had made an appointment for dip manicure, and had confirmed with Diem several times I wanted dip only. After doing two base coats of dip she starts doing gel on top of it. I again tell her I only want dip. She insists she has to do gel. She tells me they don't have "bubble bath" in dip , only gel. I tell her I've had bubble bath dip several times here, but if that's true , then I want a dip similar in color. She spent about 5 minutes arguing with me that I have to do gel. I then said "I don't know how else to say it. I want dip. I booked a dip manicure, I have told you several times I want dip only". Then she begrudgingly got the bubble bath dip color. Then drilled my nails back down, the most brittle they have been, essentially removing the gel coat she had forced on, and the dip base coat, and most of my natural nail, leaving it the most brittle I had ever seen my natural nails. She then did two coats of bubble bath, which is the lowest number of coats I have seen for a dip manicure. Leaving my nails pretty thin even with the two coats. While drilling, she cut my middle finger so bad that my nail bed kept filling with blood, then would burn it every time she put acetone on it. Overall, this was a horrible experience. No one should have to argue for 5 minutes that they want the service they booked. No one should have their nails drilled down to point that she did mine after the argument. And then no one should be cut and bleeding the way she cut me. Today I'm already seeing signs of infection to the cut, like a paronychia, and will likely have to spend $70+ to be seen medically and get antibiotics. I should have refused to pay for my thin manicure. I will be finding a new nail salon, and I encourage all readers to do the same. read more

I stopped going to Gem last August because the quality of manicures slipped. Decided to give Gem another shot and Autumn has been wonderful with acrylic oval nails ($60)! Love, love her! But Saturday I arrive and get assigned Nik who has an attitude, is painfully rough, and is terrible at acrylic short squared nails ($55). I mentioned this to reception (Aleana), that Nik cut me and was rough; she didn't really care. If this place doesn't care, why should I? I still tipped him ($8)... am I wrong for giving one star? (Oh, forgot to mention, as he was removing the old acrylic, the new nail tip container was open right underneath, falling right into the container. Not sanitary!) read more

She was very patient and helpful while I tried deciding what color and style I wanted my nails. 2.5hrs in the chair for a Jasmine pedicure and powder dip replacement and this the final result and a $20 discount. I asked the male nail tech if he could do an hombre powder dip (I showed him a picture from IG) at first he said no so I asked if someone else can. I had it done here before and frequent this salon regularly. He then said he'll do it. I said he didn't have to if he don't know how, but he insisted. I then asked him to please soak my nails to remove the old powder dip. I explained to him my nails are very thin and fragile and prefer to soak off. He should already know that when ripping off nails it takes away a few layers of you nail bed and soaking is much better to safely remove without causing significant damage. Well, I had to explain that to him too. He said ok and wanted to file the top layer. After he finished he grabbed the plastic tips as if he was about to select one to rip off my nails. I pulled my hands to my chest and told him to please soak them off. After soaking enough he begin to remove the old dip powder and became a complete AH from the start. He complained to my pedicure lady about my request to soak off the dip powder instead of ripping it off, he complained that my natural nails were too long and narrow at the tip and wide at the base (that's because they were coffin shapped), he complained I had two broken nails (well duh that's part of the reason for my visit), he neglected to trim my cuticles, apply lotion when finished, and used the wrong powder dip the whole time then blamed it on another employee. Well he probably should have looked at the product first. I asked how long he had been doing nails and it looked at me funny and said "19 years". When I replied back in utter shock, "oh wow" (because I knew that was a lie) he mocked me by repeating what I had just said and said and told my pedicure tech more bullshit in his native language. When I asked what he said, he ignored my question. I have been going here a few years and have never seen nor used this nail tech in the past. I never experienced such rudeness from any of the nail techs here until today's visit. I'll give them another chance with another tech because my pedicure tech did such a great job and other employees are much nicer and do a way better job than this AH. read more

Not only did they fix the terrible job I had done a week ago, they made them sparkle. They were great! I have never found a nail place that has inspired my commitment and I think I found the place. I used to love this place but unfortunately my last visit was horrible. My technician was answering calls every 2 minutes. Which kinda defeats the purpose of their receptionist. On top of that ALL my nails were different sizes. I wasent able to take a photo but luckily I went down to kiwi and they fixed them. Also it seems like they are racist. They treat their white customers wayyyyy better than their African American and Latino customers. And after reading their comments I will have to agree. Also I find it super GROSS that once they are done with the purple dip solution they pour it back into the original bottle. Hi, this nail shop (The owner & his employees) are all incompetent and very racist and rude. We originally had an appoint at 2pm which 5 minutes later realized we were way late, called AGAIN and the receptionist confirmed that it was okay for us to come at 230pm we arrive at 2:25pm they immediately took my friend. I sat down for a couple of minutes and then went to the restroom. I sat and waiting 30-45 minutes to wait for someone to tend to me. Everyone was with a customer. 2 women of Caucasian decent walks in at around 335pm one of the employees (which by the way was very loud and rude) immediately tended to them after I waited about 45 minutes waiting. I told my friend I will not be doing service here because something did not feel right. They cater to people who have fair skin. Not any one of Color or a dark shade of brown. My friend got up and was very upset and as she watched them deliberately dis-acknowledge me. The technician she was with cut trim and did a callus remover on her feet. My friend was very livid that she felt like if they were going to treat me like trash she is not going to pay for a service which they tried to charge $30 for an incomplete service although she tipped the technician. Given that there are some bad reviews and ppl have gone through similar situation with rudeness from the employees as me and my friend did, I'm not surprised that the owner makes sure to go out his way to falsely accuse customers of things they did not do in his racist establishment. TOM, next time you should really make sure your employees have the right attitude and have the proper qualifications to do their job, instead of confirming to come in on an over booked schedule to fill up your establishment with customers who ALL do not tend to customers as soon as they walk in and try to take there money make sure your staff can get themselves together that way you can have a competent team who can actually do there job so you can get better reviews instead of trying to attack every single person that leaves you a bad review. I was hesitant to write this review but I saw that there are other reviews highlighting the employees I want to mention.. first of all this is my first time at gem and I was planning to get an acrylic full set and gel pedicure. Tracy was very kind and helped me pick a gel color for my pedicure. However, Nick was extremely rude and I would give a horrible review based on our interaction if it wasn't for the experience being saved by Thy and Tracy. I showed Nick a photo of a purple marble design I wanted and he immediately said no to me and passed my phone around to everyone to show them the design, then came back to me saying "everyone said no". He kept asking me acrylic or dip without explaining anything, and I have never gotten a dip manicure before so I was even more confused. Luckily, Thy offered to do my nails the way I had asked and Tracy was nice enough to explain the difference between acrylic and dip nails to me. My nails ended up being exactly the way I asked! It was my first time in Gem Nail Bar and I was so excited to try it after reading the amazing reviews, however I was truly disappointed. 1. I had an appointment for gel Mani and gel pedi at 6 pm. Mani started at 6:45. Pedi started past 7 - it took more than 2 hours to complete and I asked to have it done at the same time since I didn't have much time. 2. The lady doing my manicure was super ROUGH, I felt like she was ripping my cuticles off, without even soaking them in the water, she was in a rush and i could tell she just wanted to have it done so she can go home since it was late. She was not gentle at all and I asked multiple times if she could be more delicate because it hurts. Nothing helped. 3. The lamps for gel were AWFUL AND DISGUSTING. When I put my hand in there the bottom was dirty and so sticky I could barely take my hand out!! For the rest of my service I kept my hand floating inside of this lamp burning the top of my hand with lamps - burn was still better than this nasty lamp. I have been having my nails done for 10 years - in Europe, in California, in New York, Mexico, you name it. I have never seen such a dirty uv or led lamp in my life. 4. The good part is my nails look pretty good - when my cuticles heal it will look even better. I absolutely love the idea behind this place but it does need some more management and probably better trained staff. read more

I would like to give 4 stars, but after weighing the pros and cons, I felt 3 was more fitting. The pros: every tech that has done my nails has done a great job. For reference I get acrylics. Very happy with their nail services. All the techs are super nice and I will continue to come here. The cons: I have never came without first making an appointment. I have also never been started within 15 minutes of my appointment time. Gets tricky since parking is on a meter and if you have any type of plans for your day, now you're running late. Next is my recent pedicure. It started with digging out a chunk of my flesh on my left toe. I was asked if that felt good and I said no it hurt. Then on my right toe the tech used a cuticle clipper to nip into my skin. It hurt SO BAD I jumped. Both toes were bleeding. Mind you, I come pretty regularly so my cuticles aren't in need of digging and my flesh doesn't need to be cut off. I work on my feet and I kid you not my toes were literally throbbing all day :( This is a huge risk for infection and no tech should ever be using cuticle clippers to cut into your skin. That's why I decided to leave this review. Next time I get a pedicure I will ask them not to cut into my skin, which should be a given! read more

My go to nail place in Long Beach! I'm always satisfied with the results and customer service here. I usually get a Dip Powder manicure. But sometimes will do a design with Dip Powder base and Gel on top. I love the Dip because it's the only thing that makes my nails grow. I have a very weak nail bed. I usually get a manicure every 3 weeks and a gel pedicure every 6 weeks. Yes, it lasts that long! read more
