I had a bit of a nail emergency and needed a full set before an event later that day, so I popped in here. I was pleasantly surprised to be seen within 10 minutes, and they offered me water right away, which was a nice touch. The prices were fair and in line with what you'd expect, plus they had a ton of color options to choose from. My nails turned out beautifully, great shape and neat. That said, I wasn't thrilled with the cleanliness. There was no cuticle prep, which means they are growing out faster than they should since they weren't pushed back, and they were reusing files and electric file bits, which is a red flag for me. Thankfully, the technician was very skilled and didn't cause any nicks, but I'd feel a lot better if the tools were more sanitized. read more

This was my go to place for nails. I had fingers and toes done. THEY MADE MY TOENAILS FALL OFF!! When I return 3 days after to ask them to repair lifting tips they refused and would not refund my $. I will never go there again ! What a nightmare! Cost me $130 plus $50 tip !!!! read more

I really wanted to like Gem nails as it is within walking distance of my new home. After positive yelp reviews, I called and made an appointment. "Ten" who answered the phone thought my manicure would take 20 minutes. When I arrived, I waited 10 minutes for my nail tech who was finishing with another client. She worked with me for about 10 minutes and then she had another appointment, and told me to move seats and wait for yet another woman to paint my nails. The NEXT woman had zero interest in painting my nails, and missed sections of 4 of my nails. So finally "Ten" the manager, finished my nails. Instead of "20 minutes", I was there for about an hour. I think service is more than fine for "regulars" but since I was not a familiar face, I got bottom of the barrel service. Unfortunately, I won't be trying Gem again to make myself a regular. read more

I just came back from GEM Nails, if I could give it 0 stars I would. I walked in at 11:00 am, requesting a full set and eyebrows, I then was told to pick my color. In five minutes someone came over and told me that they had an appointment and could I come back, why would I come back? They said they would do my eyebrows and come back for the nails, no thank you, I wanted two services and that is what I expected. They kept telling me if I could come back in 1 hour, I then said, no problem ill wait, and she promptly told me no, I could not wait there! What in the world? I am hoping that this is not what I think it is, since I am african american, why else would I not be allowed to wait in the salon until she was finished? Sorry for the wrinkly hands with my pretty nails! First time at Gem Nails. I won't be going anywhere else. Been to 5 other salons and they burned and sanded my nail beds so thin that my nails are like paper. They rush to get $$. Gem nails are gentle and calm with you. I had the best experience there. First time visit and no pricing offered so I assumed they would be standard charges. I was wrong. I got a basic gel mani pedi...think about your guesstimate for this run-of-the-mill service... I was charged $73, very unexpected! I thought to myself, perhaps gratuity is built in? Then the receipt printed with a tip field. Not wanting to break the bank with a 15-20%, I gave $10 (13.7%) because I simply could not wrap my head around paying more than $83 for a basic service. Does anyone else find this unreasonable? Most people whom I've shared this info with respond with "where did you go?" My answer is, a local strip mall nail joint that looks just like all the others I've been to before. They got me started quickly and were time-efficient, which I appreciate. But I was also a midday midweek walk-in. My pedicure was thorough and looks great, but my finger nails, one day later, have begun to chip. The cleaning up of fingernail cuticles was a rushed and cursory job. I am disappointed. There was one more odd thing that grossed me out. The older gentleman who painted my nails, instead of using a tool to wipe excess paint, stuck his long dirty thumbnail into my cuticles over and over again. That is just an icky habit that seems like it might be against a health protocol. read more

Unexpectedly stopped in for my monthly pedicure on Tuesday. I go monthly either here or another place in PH. I don't have a regular person here since this came other new ownership. Anyway, I saw Rose today. Her English was great, she has been in Florida for 14 years, Texas prior, so her English was perfect. I explained to her that I like my nails on the short side but to be careful when she files them because sometimes the grade of file they use hurts the quick of my nail. She understood. I also explained to her that she can give a deep tissue massage since that is what I prefer. I also told her I would tip her more if she does this. I told her that this time I did not want any color, just a clear coat. My pedicure was very rushed, very sloppy, and she was very rude and rough. Even when she was massaging me she was scratching me because her nails are too long. When she was using the metal callus scraper, I don't know the technical name for it, I was very ticklish. I finally told her she could stop if she wanted to. I am typically not this ticklish so I'm not sure why it was so different this time. Anyway she showed me the callous scraper which had all the lotion and gunk in it and said my feet were very bad. I told her that wasn't possible because I use my Amope every night and they're always very smooth. She then said, very loudly, that my feet were very dirty. I explained to her that if they were, it was their fault because it was there that I had my last pedicure earlier in the month, and I get a pedicure every four weeks. She asked why I only get one every four weeks and not more often. What!? She then looked at my finger nails and asked me if I wanted gel for my nails. I told her that I never get my fingernails done but their machine at check-in doesn't allow you to say that you just want a pedicure. I told her I understood that they were trying to upsell me but I was not interested in getting my nails done, and I only wanted a basic pedicure. She would make little snide remarks here and there. She then said again, very loudly, almost like she was trying to embarrass me, that my feet were very dirty! This was starting to piss me off! I get regular pedicures and have for the last 20 years, and every night I use my Amope. I told her this was not true. They were very busy! She asked again if I wanted polish and I said no so she asked me if I wanted a buff and shine which would cost another five dollars. I told her to just put some clear polish on them. I wanted to leave bc I was getting very angry and I didn't want to lose my temper. She threw on some clear polish told me, "now look how clean your feet look!" That was it! I paid and left and will never be back again. I told her (Rose) and the girl at checkout that I would be going to my other place from now on. I'm not exactly sure why she was so rude and felt it necessary to try to make me feel badly that I wasn't getting the most expensive option for a pedicure, or getting a manicure but this kind of pressure sales doesn't go well with me. I have not had a problem with anyone else there, but Rose pissed me off so much I will never be back to this location again. read more

I took my chances as a walk-in. Seemed like a pretty standard nail salon. I normally do gel but they were talking about dip so I gave it a try. I was disappointed they didn't address my cuticles, they didn't cut the length of my nails even though I said I wanted short, and and that the color came out differently than the sample. Some people's reviews online talked about a lotion massage, which I also didn't get. But overall, it was faster than I thought it would be and the staff seemed friendly enough. The place seemed relatively clean and decent COVID precautions were being taken (didn't wipe down in between clients, but they did all wear masks - though sometimes below their nose, and they had the plastic barricades up). I got my nails done on a Saturday, by Monday they were chipping. While I was there on Saturday the girl cut my cuticles so carelessly that she made me bleed twice. Then when the guy who did my pedicure cut my toe nails he did not file them before painting them making them look all jagged. I would not recommend this place to anyone! read more

I went to this nail salon for three years straight! The last time I went there, my nail tech, Kay charged me $71.00... I was so upset. She said it was $40.00 for my fill, $20.00 for my design, $5.00 for my two nail repairs and $5.00 for my "nail shape" change! Oh, and let's not forget the extra $1.00 charge because all of their prices on the products they have to buy are going up in price...Talk about nickel and diming your loyal clientele. First of all, my "nail shape" change? I didn't change my nail shape! I haven't changed my nail shape for 30 years... I guess she forgot what shape I like and she did them a different shape. When I told her about it and asked her to shape them the way I like them, the way I always get them shaped, she decided to charge me to shape them "differently!" Then, I had two nails lifted due to her shotty work, she did not even put new tips on them, she decided to just "repair" them and she had to charge me for that... They have lost me as a customer permanently. Also, not to mention the fact too that Kay is SO unfriendly! If you talk to her, she makes you feel like you are bothering her even though she can talk in her Vietnamese language to the other nail techs the whole time you are there... Then, another thing is, I was verbally accosted by another customer there one day for no reason at their nail salon, which was very upsetting. Kay and all of her Vietnamese staff thought it was nothing but funny! Loyal clientele means nothing to them... They couldn't care less if you come back to them again or not. I have been looking for a place to get a pedicure that is a little closer to home and Gem was recommended by a few friends. I have been once before and it was fine, so I thought I'd give them another try. I arrived and was greeted warmly a few minutes after 5. I said I hadn't made an appt and was told that's ok - she quickly seated me in a chair and turned on the massage. That's where I was still sitting 55 minutes later when they started on a newer customer. Not once in that 55 minutes did anyone speak to me, offer me a water or explain the delay.
