Super disappointing. I called in a few weeks ago to discuss ultrasound/X-ray pricing for my pregnant dog... the receptionist that I spoke with was so kind and went above and beyond to answer my questions and get me pricing.. which I was told was a $50 exam and $100 for X-ray and $100 for ultrasound and depending on how far along she was we would determine which method would be best at the time of the appointment. I then booked an ultrasound and had the idea that once the exam was complete we would then decide which method would be best to find out a litter size. When I arrived to the appointment we waited a bit and then a tech came out and took my dog back- she said they would let me know if they saw any pups- my dog was 52 days at the time of the appointment and very clearly carrying a large litter. About a minute later the tech came and got me and asked if I wanted to see the pups- to which she saw two. I then asked if she could continue to get a better idea of litter size and was told that she was too far along and we would need to X-ray. I then agreed to move forward with an X-ray instead. 5 mins later they called me to a room and the tech showed me a X-ray which showed 8 pups. The tech was short with me and quickly hurried me out of the room- I asked if I could take a photo of the X-ray which she let me do, but that was it. No paperwork, no exam, I never spoke with a vet. When I checked out I was charged for both services- $265.00 WHICH I PAID. But upon reflection I asked the front desk for a breakdown of services because this total was more than I was quoted. She then became clearly aggravated and started rolling her eyes. I explained that my dog was in the ultrasound for less than a minute and it resulted in a very clear incorrect count and so that's why we moved her into getting an X-ray. She then went back and spoke with "the owner?" And told me that I would need to pay. I very calmly replied and told her that I had a hard time paying for services that I didn't feel were completed. And that I was happy to pay for the X-ray (which was $165, different from what I was told over the phone) she then rolled her eyes and went back to speak to the same person again. She came back and said if I didn't like it I could pay or leave (which I had already paid in full at this time) after asking her to go back and ask again- she then said they would refund me for the incorrect ultrasound but then I would need to pay the exam fee ($50). But my dog never received an exam... her temp and vitals were never taken, I never saw a vet. I agreed to the charges (even though they were for services my pet never received) and she refunded me $45. Two weeks later I received a certified letter asking me not to return. I have worked in the pet industry for years- being a tech myself, I understand the steps and work it takes to complete a visit. I am so disappointed that this was the outcome. I never raised my voice and honestly apologized MULTIPLE times to the very aggravated receptionist, I felt uneasy and somewhat takes advantage of. I will obviously never return but also will be sharing my story with others. It seems like good customer service is hard to find these days- I wish my experience was better. Funny how I received a SIGNED letter from Jaime Paeschke, DVM asking me not to return to their clinic- and I never even had the opportunity to meet her or explain my concerns over the charges. This is not how you treat customers- very upsetting. I could understand this type of treatment if I was yelling, refusing to pay or causing any kind of scene... but none of those things happened. I tried calling today to discuss the letter- but I guess they're not open on saturdays. Major let down. Only posting one star because zero isn't an option. EDIT: SUSAN is the receptionist running the front counter was an older lady with bleached blonde hair- cute above her shoulders. She was so rude and condescending to me. It seems like I am not the only customer to experience her rudeness. Giving 2 stars because I had great past care for my pet as well as getting an appointment quickly. But unfortunately, thats it for my most recent & my absolutely last experience here. Here's the jest of it. After explaining over the phone my concern about my cat needing an extraction-based off his doctor's previous recommendations here at this clinic, and needing to get a ballpark idea of costs due to my possible inability to afford it at the moment, I was offered a free exam to look at his teeth & get an estimate. I explained several times over the phone all I wanted to do was look at the ext of the 1 tooth their veterinarian said would likely need to go in the future. I could not afford to do anything more. This is not the cheapest clinic & I eventually had to make mention of that because the front desk girl didn't seem to understand that financially I was limited this time...unlike our first few appointments where I was able to pay over $1000 for what my kitty needed. No range or rough estimate would be given over the phone for what the typical charges are for the most expensive, complex extraction to the easiest, least expensive simple extraction. I didn't realize it at the time, but my free check was with a vet tech not the doctor. After 10 min I was handed an estimate for much more than an extraction w/a cost of over $530. I told the lady I couldn't do all this. She proceeded to tell me everything from "this is what he needs" to "he has lesions on his teeth" and finally "I thought you cared about your pet" at which time I was done. And I told her so. I've never been so insulted and made to feel bad because I couldn't afford to do a full dental, bloodwork, etc. .... When I asked her if I could just do the extraction she said no, there wasn't anything they would do if I wouldn't do a full dental. I am a licensed dental hygienist on people & have been in the human dental field for over 20yrs. I have researched extensively regarding my babies health problems & have participated in multiple online feline stomatitis & juvenile hyperplastic gingivitis chat groups where I've shared many many pictures documenting my kitties walk, as well as sharing my tx experience. I am not a vet, but my career is in oral care & its really not very different from humans. I'm not someone with zero knowledge. I believe the scope of a vet tech in Idaho does not include diagnosing in their doctors name either..and using their diagnosis to generate a tx plan. But I didn't mention that as I was too upset over being accused of not caring about my pet & just wanted to leave. I was able to get my kitty in with the vet I use for my dogs today, & he said all he'd recommend was an antibiotic shot & to try a steroid injection, since this had never been done before for him. He also said while his premolar looked iffy, his remaining front teeth looked in decent shape for now-no mobility & no "tooth lesions." In his years of experience he said he would not recommend pulling them. I was really happy about finding Gem clinic & felt my precious kitty got top notch care when I first brought him in. However, I was embarrassed & insulted, & left feeling hopeless & angry today. I don't believe I was treated right & we won't be back. There are other excellent options for veterinarians in our community who not only give great care to your pets, but also care about the owners & meet them where they are financially. A full dental could've been done at a later date. NEVER suggest a customer doesn't care about their pet due to financial constraints. Shame on you! read more

I have tried to write this review several times and it just gets too long. I'm going to limit this to just bullet points of why I'm giving them one star. 1. There are no zero stars 2. The front desk person (Susan) is in the wrong job. her entire vibe is I hate my job and she is abrupt and has hung up on me. 3. They don't listen 4. They operate with blinders on. It's like they automatically want to do the same thing to every pet you bring in without any variables. See #3 5. They clearly make their money on unnecessary tests 6. Scheduling issues resulting in long wait times 7. Not addressing the concerns of the pet owner. see #3 8. Not calling the pet owner with an update when there is a drop off and just going ahead assuming the pet owner has the money or the inclination to pay the bill. They do not ask for permission. 9. Some sort of crazy and or outdated filing system. People running around like chickens with their head cut off looking for files. 10. A converted closet as an exam room that's dark and dingy with an oddly flickering light that made me so dizzy I thought I was going to puke. 11. No accountability. No matter what happens it's someone else's fault. I literally had them blame another vet I went to when they had no available appointments, the place I adopted my pet from, and me. The root of the problem was the vet wasn't there the day I made an appointment and they wanna head and did some thing without me being able to talk to the vet and I ended up with a nearly dead cat that has since cost me another $500 to treat elsewhere. Ironically, their so-called treatment for this follow up appointment what's fluids and observation. Once I got the estimate I said no. I'm not paying someone to throw my cat in a cage and do nothing. I took it to another vet the next day they did a different kind of fecal test which my cat did not appreciate only to find she was loaded with spirochete bacteria for which they prescribed a very aggressive treatment which included three medications for an extended period of time. That cat is now beautiful and healthy no thanks to Gem Vet! They would've just let her die. read more

We've been using another local Vet office for a handful of years since we moved to the area. We were constantly underwhelmed (or outright angry) by the level of care and service we received. So when we adopted a new dog recently we decided to change things up. Everyone we've encountered and worked with so far has been absolutely fantastic. Great care, great customer service, no surprise charges. We've definitely found a new family vet office. read more

I had a great experience. My dog needed a dental cleaning and extractions. I went to another place in meridian first and they quoted me $900 plus which is just crazy and gem charged me a third of that price! I hope I won't need them again but if i do I'll go back to this business. read more

I have been taking my animals to gem veterinary for many years. I was very disappointed at the rudeness of the newer receptionist. I took my dogs in for their annual check up/vaccinations and they both had ear infections. I took them back a week later for a follow up, and I was charged $60 for a two minute office visit. And again, the receptionist was snotty, unprofessional, and rude I drive out to Emmett from star, fortunately for me there's a new veterinarian in star. I will never step foot at gem vet again read more

We take our animals here all the time and every time we go we have to deal with the new receptionist she's snotty and down right rude ,she has no compassion for you when your animal is sick and hangs the phone up on you it's a shame someone like her works there I've never had to deal with someone so rude as her when taking our sick animals in to be taken care of . Unfortunately I have to give her 1 star as the rating this office and the Drs are great but she's not read more
