We were certainly glad we spent several hours there. We've visited lots of "local" museums but this one gets the grand prize. Located in a former national guard armory, they have thousands of feet for displays and they've utilized all of it. They've moved settlement log homes inside, after disassembling and documenting each part so they could be reassembled perfectly. The whole museum is a collection that shows how people in the area lived in years gone by. A doctor, a bank, a school, a drug store soda stand, a blacksmith shop... the list goes on and on. They have extensive coverage of the oil and agricultural industries, which played a very important part in the local economy. The docents were very friendly and answered all of our questions about the exhibits. We also listened to some funny stories, too. Be sure to visit the Military History Museum while you're here. It's located in the same building and it's very interesting. Both museums are free to enjoy, but be sure to leave a nice donation for each one to help keep them going.

The man warmly welcoming us at the gate was wonderful, the food at the cafe was a delight, and the grounds were relaxing and educational in equal measure. We intended to just get lunch and go, but we stayed around, exploring the grounds and learning of the Chickasaw people for 3 more hours. My opinion of this place cannot be overstated, I have paid good money for admission to much, much worse parks, and this one is absolutely free!

There is a cafe with lots to try, some may say it is bland... it is authentic and pretty sure there was no isle 4 spice racks out in the wild. The flavors we were clean, fresh and the grape dumplings were unexpectedly morsels of tasty. Felt like every turn was a chance to learn, not overly crowded and one of my favorite spots. We learned of this when staying in Tishomingo and they highly recommended and we are so glad when people just take a few minutes to talk and give suggestions. GO HERE it is a must "HIKA".

The museum is divided into three sections:…read more1) Revolutionary War to WWI; 2) WWII to Vietnam; and 3) modern wars of Desert Storm and Afghanistan. The lobby display includes artifacts of the fallen Berlin Wall and 9/11. So much information along with artifacts and military vehicles and planes. The outside display include many other military vehicles, aircraft, and cannons. Hubby and I spend hours reading and visiting this fantastic museum. Donations were welcome. The displays were gorgeous... you must be up for reading. I read fast! Because it is a smaller museum, I would plan for about an hour visit. Less if you read fast. Comanche words were scattered everywhere, tying in with authentic Comanche art, artifacts, or collections... a few of which photos were not allowed. One of my softball coaches from college was/is Comanche. I still keep up with her on Facebook and her involvement with The Comanche Nation. The Comanche Code Talkers of World War II will never be forgotten! They were amazingly resilient... "their codes were never broken!" Loved all of the local artists pieces. Plus my kid and I got to try on a buffalo robe. Very kind woman at the check-in area on 7.26.2025. Clean women's restrooms!

Forgotten Wheels is a well organized museum with a wide range of antique vehicles of all kinds. The owner is a friendly guy who has lots of knowledge about all the items located inside. He can tell you as much or as little information as you want about any of the items and is clearly proud of his collection. They have several hands on displays that are great for kids and adults. There is a movie theater that shows an 18 minute video about life on the cattle drive. I especially enjoyed their collection of western art. Their collection includes Remington, Russell and Catlin paintings. The outdoor bronze sculpture is amazing. The staff is very nice! They are very knowledgeable of the history of the Chisholm trail and more than willing to share their knowledge with visitors.
