I was referred to Dr. Sweetnam by a family friend who has been seeing him for 7+ years. The moment I walked in, I was pleasantly greeted and signed in. While I was waiting, I noticed a lot of accolades for the doctor including his time in the Military. And when I met with him for my extreme dry eyes and allergies, he was not only kind and patient with me, but also extremely informative. He provided some options for me to consider. He nor his staff did not pressure me at all. And their pricing was very reasonable considering I have been having to see an optometrist annually for the past 10 years of my life. I have been going to Dr. Sweetnam since I was in high school and I am about to turn 30 so for a good 15 years. I wear contacts and glasses, and always have a good experience when I go and visit their office. My previous two visits I saw Dr. Chang, and this past visit I saw Dr. Sweetnam. All of the staff is very nice, personable and professional. Helpful if you need to pick out new glasses, and great at scheduling appointments around when it is convenient for you to come in. This past visit just over a week ago, Dr. Sweetnam, noticed a change from my visit the past year with my eye pressure, and made sure that I had a follow-up appointment in a month, so he can check on it, and make sure that everything is okay! I have had the opportunity to see Dr. Sweetnam for the past few years. I was referred to him, after a long search, by a friend for two reasons: 1) he knows how to write a prescription for complex set of eye glasses, where there are 3 lenses merge into one progressively. 2) his prices on glasses, and additional glass features are consistent, fair, and clear to understand. I found out that Dr Sweetnam and his office holds true to the above two reasons, therefore, I will continue to see him, and will recommend him to others. I am sad that he had to close his Ox Rd location, as it was very close to my house - but the extra travel to get to his Burke office is not an issue in comparison to the services he offers. read more

It was my first visit to Dr. Sweetnam's office. I have to say it was an awesome experience. My prescription was filled several ways to accommodate my virtual working condition. I spend 4-6 hours a day teaching online. He made a special prescription just for that. He was assisted by a super Intern Doctor (Dr. Meaghan). She spent time to understand my working & health conditions. Service manager, Elaine patiently took time to ensure my new glasses would fit my needs. So overall, I would rate my visit very highly. I'm not sure why it has taken me a decade to review Dr. Sweetnam. I have been seeing Dr. Sweetnam, well, for a decade! I had contacts and glasses at first but continue to see him after having had successful Lasik Sx. He is thorough, answers all of my questions to the fullest extent (particularly when I was preparing for Lasik), is friendly and patient. His office staff is just as wonderful and their new office is beautiful. Parking is easy, business is well located. Strongly recommend this practice. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Sweetnam's office for years. I usually see Dr. Sweetnam, but I've seen Dr. Chang as well. I am always pleased with the care I receive and the attention the doctors pay to make sure I understand what they are doing, and what they find, and further actions to take. Dr. Sweetnam has been particularly diligent about monitoring my eye pressure and field of vision because glaucoma runs in my family. When I purchase new glasses every year or two, I am happy with the large selection of frames and the attentiveness of the staff. I saw Dr. Sweetnam for prescription lenses for myself and my entire family. His advice and methods are inaccurate and I think more folks should get a second opinion to verify my experience. The first prescription he gave me was really off. The second one too strong, but I wasn't aware of it. Month's later I see another optometrist in Burke that was much more accurate and professional. I find out that my prescription was not right and I wasted time and money with Dr. Sweetnam. Think twice before consdering this doctor. Understand your benefits because the staff is either uninformed or don't care enough to explain the difference between their health and vision insurance policy. I don't understand why an optometrist's office would accept health insurance and not vision insurance from the same carrier. The staff did not make this clear to me and caused me to miss out on my vision benefits, resulting in hundreds of dollars of unnecessary costs. read more

My previous review was from a parent's standpoint/viewpoint. This review is from my own experience with Dr. Chang. My daughter had Dr. Sweetnam. Again, the staff were so friendly. They knew me by name when I walked through the door, and I was taken back to start the example promptly. My eyes are sensitive to everything!! So each test that is done during my exams are time consuming and frustrating. His support staff were so patient with me, allowing my eyes time to readjust and stop watering. This was very different from previous experiences, where I am rushed or the staff is frustrated with how sensitive my eyes are to light. The visit with Dr. Chang was great. She remembered seeing my daughter last year and asked about her. She took time to answer all of my questions about my eyes watering and allergies. She took the time to explain dry eyes to me and how the brain functions that leads to the excess eye watering. Amazing! I have had this issue for many many many years and no one in other practices really took the time to explain this to me, in medical terms that made perfect sense. She gave me a prescription for both the allergies and dry eyes. They are both working great and have lessened the problem. Overall, I am very pleased with both my experience and my daughter's experience with the doctors and staff. I first saw Dr. Sweetnum's after a recommendation from a friend. I have been seeing both Dr. Sweetnum and Dr. Chang for several years and would highly recommend them to anyone. They spend the time needed to help the patient, are on time with their appointments and seem to have patient satisfaction as their highest goal. Recently,I had trouble adjusting to my first progressives prescription and called to ask for help. They spent an hour trying to help me and were incredibly patient and kind. I've been bringing my family here for years. I like Dr. Change and I think Elaine is outstanding as is the gal who patiently teaches teenagers how to use contact lenses (bless her!). Sometimes, in the past, when the Rx was easy, I got my actual glasses made elsewhere to save money. That didn't work out well for me the last time. Now, my Rx has notably changed and I'm anxious about how well the new glasses (multiple pairs) will resolve my difficulties. So, I'm having them made here, just in case there is a problem with the prescription. Elaine quickly helped me realize I needed to sign up for insurance during open season. Outstanding advice. I also appreciated that Dr. Chang worked with me so that I actually understood why my vision had worsened (I'm the kind of person that needs the nitty-gritty detail).
