She's not only the most friendly person ever but she's so professional, easy to understand, and fitted me for the best new contacts!! My wife and I have been Virginia customers for many years. No more. Liars and thieves. I received a dunning letter from the Stillman Law Office saying I owed $50.35 to the Virginia Eye Center, and Stillman Law Office was a debt collector. No, I paid this bill several months ago. I called Virginia Eye Center and the person with whom I spoke could not tell me if the bill had been paid. I called Stillman and paid the bill again. Never again with Virginia Eye Center. They cheated me of $50.35, but won't cheat me again, as no one in my family will support their business in the future. read more

I made an appointment for a contact lens fitting as my eye specialist is in another state. The waiting areas are clean and bright (they even had free cookies out). Dr Shaye was very kind and friendly. The contact lens guy who helped me was very helpful. You could tell that the staff enjoy working here. The eyeglasses room has styles for all interests. I always feel confident going to the Virginia Eyecare Center. I've been going to them for over 10 years, as I can remember, and they are our family eyecare professionals. I also buy many of my eyeglasses there, and go back frequently for adjustments. They always treat me like a valued customer, even when I go for free services. Dr. Caplan is a very patient doctor, and he takes time to explain his findings, good and bad, to you. You are not rushed in and out of the office. That to me is very important. For 28 years my family has seen Dr Ann Meccarrielo for our eyecare, and we have been a extremely pleased with her professionalism and care. She is patient and discusses options clearly. She watches carefully as vision changes progress and recommends the necessary tests to determine the cause not only treat effects. She helped me try various contact lenses, diagnosed and treated dry eye syndrome, and watched small cataracts develop until it was time for surgery. Not a good experience Some of the staff is rude particularly in the optical shop - busy practice - it is like a factory there. I wanted to chose frames before my eyes were dilated and the lady got bent because I wasn't following their system. Didn't notify me when my glasses came - they got my e-mail wrong - then blamed me. The eye exam took 1/2 the day - wanted to be there 2 hours instead of 4. Glasses very expensive even with insurance. The prescription the doc gave me for dry eyes was very painful. Reserve soldiers beware. I called VIRGINIA EYECARE CNTR after finding them in the Tricare directory to schedule an eye exam. I told them I had Tricare Reserve Select. The staff person I talked to said they were not allowed to see me without a referral as I would be treated as an active duty member with Prime. I told the staff member I was not active and not under the prime plan. She said it didn't matter and that I should call Tricare and get a referral. This was their head insurance person speaking with me. I called Tricare north and explained the situation. The Tricare rep told me I did not need a referral and to call VIRGINIA EYECARE CNTR back and tell them I spoke with TRICARE and I do not need a referral. The VIRGINIA EYECARE CNTR rep started to get defensive and said. "I have dealt with TRICARE and they don't pay their claims unless you have a referral". She told me that she had called Tricare and the person she called had confirmed this. She then said I needed to call my PMC and just have that person submit a referral. To my knowledge I do not have a PMC. I called TRICARE again after hanging up with VIRGINIA EYECARE CNTR and the TRICARE rep (different one than first call) who said the same thing the first rep said. I also asked if I had a PMC rep that I might have to call on this and the Tricare rep said I did not have one and the provider was wrong. The Tricare rep also said that no one from that office had called them for info on tricare as it was not logged in for that provider. Tricare then told me to submit an official grievance on their sight to track this place and their mismanagement of soldiers. I have requested Tricare send info on Reserve Select to this office so other service members do not have to go through this again with the VIRGINIA EYECARE CNTR staff. They are close by so it is a shame that I won't get to use them; but maybe for the best as they would have most likely submitted my insurance wrong. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Caplan for over 30 years. His knowledge and ability to recall my history are top-notch. I've moved out of the general area but ALWAYS take the drive up to Burke to see Dr. Caplan. Also, I've found that buying my glasses and lenses from them is MUCH better than Lenscrafters or other discount stores. In other words, you get what you pay for. In fact, those places won't even try to refill my glasses RX due to the nature of my vision/lenses. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Meccariello for over ten years now. Even though I now live in Arlington, I still travel out to Burke for my eye appointments because of the quality of care I receive in this office. My wife recently saw Dr. Caplan for an emergency and she was also very pleased with the care and attention she received from him. The office staff was very helpful in fitting her in at the very last minute even though there was only one doctor on staff that day. From my experience, Drs. Meccariello and Caplan go above and beyond in their thoroughness and education of their patients. I can't speak to the other 2 doctors on staff because I have not dealt with them, but I imagine they are pretty good as well if they were recruited by the other doctors in this office. Receiving your eye care through this office is going to be a little more expensive than your run of the mill optometrist, but you get what you pay for, and I don't like to fancy myself a cheapskate when it comes to my vision and that of my family. read more

I have been going to this practice for years. I am always impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of all the staff members, doctors and front office staff as well. Besides my annual checkups, I have on one occasion had an emergency where they got me in right away, then referred me to a specialist after checking me. They also have been responsible for identifying a precancerous condition my husband had that was missed by his dermatologist. So, yes, they are checking your vision, and making your glasses, but they are also looking out for your overall health. read more

Long waits. Shouldn't take an hour from check-in to time you see eye doc. Front desk staff is brusk when making appointment and on checkout. Overall inefficient process takes up too much of my time, despite having 8-10 support staff in the office. What they are doing, I have no idea. I have been going to Virginia Eyecare Center since Dr. Caplan first started this practice. When I moved out of the area some years ago I tried a couple different local eye doctors and realized they could not begin to compare with the expertise, professionalism, and genuine care I received at Virginia Eyecare Center. VEC has medical technology/devices that enable the exam of the health of the eye and provides early detection for a host of eye health issues. I agree with another reviewer that in the past I have not been positively impressed with some of the staff in the reception/backoffice area, but the rest of the staff throughout the office are highly professional, pleasant, and knowledgeable. I make the long drive and invest the time to return to Virginia Eyecare Center because no one else has won or sustained my confidence as Dr. Caplan or the other eye doctors on this team. read more
