This has to be one of my top wineries in the area if not my number 1 winery. The owner and his wife are so friendly and nice and they make it a point to mingle with all their customers. Very professional owners and the staff is so nice. They also own 2 homes on the property that you can rent out. They're cheaper then most hotels which is crazy. The 2 homes are situated on their property and you'll see them on the way in to the tasting room. The highlight of my tasting was the sparkling wine. It's almost like a champagne but it's made in VA so it can't be called champagne and the best part is... you don't get headaches the next day from drinking too much of it. WINNING! The merlot was also very good. If you're ever wine tasting in the area be sure to come here and I promise you, you won't be disappointed.

General's Ridge (named in honor of its retired 2-Star Marine Corps owner) is one of the larger vineyards in the area. The tasting room isn't fancy-smancy, but if you're a day tripper to the Northern Neck you shouldn't care. They also jokingly call themselves a B&B, except it's a "Bottle & Breakfast", since they give you wine instead of feeding you breakfast! Their 33 acres has a wide assortment of varietals, although they only produce maybe 2500 cases/year. The rest goes to any number of other vineyards. So if you're drinking a nice Pinot Grigio somewhere, ask where the grapes came from, because they may well come from here. Mike Shaps is their wine maker, which is a point in their favor. They are also 100% estate, so two points in their favor. Almost all the reds here (and generally in this area) trended towards light bodied, aided & abetted by the use of neutral French Oak barrels. While that isn't my preference, I didn't mind it. What I tried: GRV While (Traminette): One of the few Traminettes I've seen east of the Shenandoah. I like this grape so no complaints here. 2015 Viognier: OK 2015 Petit Manseng: Pretty nice; I was tempted to get a glass except it was late in the day. Made in a dry style (the way I like it). Sparkling Semper Fi (Chardonnay sparkling): I generally don't drink sparklings but I think theirs was good. GRV Rose: Strawberry notes, but not overly sweet General's Nightcap: Desert wine, too sweet for me GRV Red Blend (Merlot, Cab Franc, Chambourcin): Light, fruity, and their suggestion it be served chilled sounds good. A red for white drinkers. 2013 Merlot: Also light, and has the capacity to be served chilled 2013 Cab Franc: Yet another light red, and unusual in that it didn't have the distinctive pepperiness of other Virginia Cab Francs  2014 Petit Verdot: This one did have some pepperiness, but I'd say was still on the light side Generals Last Call port style: Made with Chambourcin & brandy. I liked it, but I have plenty of ports at home so I deferred on a bottle.

On the way to the tasting room.

We often stop at the Virginia wineries in our way home to Maryland. My family lives in the Northern Neck and I've been visiting my family for 52 years. Can't pass up the prettiest winery in the trip home. So glad we stopped in. Wonderful young ladies behind the wine bar pouring the tastings. We left before the music started and hope we catch the music next time. Our favorite was the Cabernet franc. Delicious. I'll share pictures too. I have to bring my dad next time. As a Marine, imagine my dad would enjoy meeting the owner who is also a Marine. Beautiful land and simply gorgeous location.

He provided suggestions and guidance on how I should set up, which worked out beautifully. The staff on the day of the event was awesome and also very pleasant and accommodating. My DJ didn't show for my event, and the staff offered to use their phone playlist until i was able to get someone there. Anything i asked for, they handled without a problem. Wonderful demeanor. I would use this event space again in a heartbeat! Great Job Noelle's. Keep doing what you're doing!!!

The buffet that was served was carribean food and I have to say was some of the best carribean food I have had in a while! The only that was not spiced up was the fried chicken but that could have been for people that could not handle alot of spice and flavor. They also had a beautiful bar with stool top chairs and a huge television/ monitor. This place can literally used for anything from family get together, parties, club nights, but for us it was used to hold our repass. The owners were extraordinary people and we were thankful to be able to use there space for our event. If you are looking for a great location venue give this place a look. You'll be glad you did.

We felt so welcomed. When we drove up that little Mansion we could not believe our Eyes. Directly on the water in a magical setting...something we will never forget and definitely will revisit! We were greeted and got a tour that justified its history. We did have perfect weather conditions, so when we came back from dinner, we enjoyed ourselves for a little walk around the gardens and lake. The view from our balcony was stunning...you really have to pinch yourself...just making sure you're not dreaming...it made us feel happy as can be. The next morning...David prepared a beautiful spread of breakfast. Crab &Swiss cheese omelette, roasted Yukon potato, turkey bacon, country sausage, the bread basket had lavish varieties and customed as well towards my girl who has celiac disease with gluten free options, Room tempered butter, I think even the raspberry marmalade was homemade, fresh berries...I mean nothing was missing and it was put together with such care. Since we were the first of the season...David was able to join us. What a great morning we had thanks to him...thank you so very much!! A must see venue, that is highly recommended!

The shop features household items, decor, quilts, knitted and woven items, made by local Virginian artisans. There are a few studios in the back where artists-in-residence can be found working on their crafts, and classes available (there was a beading class in session the day I was there.) The clerk was a volunteer, as I think is all the staff, and she was super nice and gave me lots of information about the shop and artists. I bought an adorable knit jellyfish ornament (pictured) even though I was originally planning on just looking. Then I went through to the cafe, also manned by volunteers, these from the culinary guild. They had soups, a salad option, a sandwich option, and some baked goods, mostly already prepared. I got the autumn chopped salad with spring mix, apples, avocado, bacon and a cheddar cheese dressing. It came with a choice of fresh baked bread and I picked a molasses cornbread variety that was AMAZING. The sandwich option, which I did not get, is also worth mentioning because it was a grilled cheese with BACON AND JAM and sounded incredible. My salad was delicious though and I needed some greens in me. The volunteers were all so nice and helpful. I love this place!
