After visiting Colonial Williamsburg, I took my parents to a local nostalgic place called…read moreWilliamsburg General Store, it's a family owned shop that was filled with snit snat items, apparels, variety of sweet treats, flags, retro toys, hot sauces, specialty soaps, jellies, plush animals and much much more. Also they have a homemade ice cream cafe in the rear of the store called Bigfoot's Ice Cream Shack (formerly Bubba's). All ice cream is made in house with unique flavors such as strawberry cheesecake, pistachio almond, peachy peach, southern blackberry cobbler, orange swirl and many more. There's option from cups, waffle cones, shakes and sundaes. I try their southern blackberry cobbler, peachy peach and salted caramel brownie. They all have their own unique flavors but the blackberry cobbler was creamy, smooth and delicious. All their staff are amazingly friendly, knowledgeable and patient. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely make another visit to get some gifts since holidays are approaching and can't leave until I try other flavors of their homemade treats. They also have outside seatings too.

In addition to the typical assortment of jams, they had canned peaches, beets, and applesauce. If you bought two, you received a discount. The staff were so helpful and patient in taking off the price tags and wrapping them in packing paper for me. I'm glad to know I can find these goods at the general store alongside Simply Southern clothes and other gifts from the area.

This has to be one of the weirdest stores I've ever seen, but for a suitable souvenir of our…read moreSouthern Maryland trip, it sure fit the bill. There are three signs out front: "Harmon House Shoppes"; "Grandmother's Store"; and "Inner Equinox". I don't know what you might gather from three signs, but as I walked up the steps of the old house in which this shop is located I figured Harmon House Shoppes was a collective, and that Grandmother's Store and Inner Equinox were both inside. I was right, but these shops aren't separate. All the merch is together. This means that the chowder mugs, "Feeling Crabby" travel cups, crystal fan pulls, salt water taffy, and plush monkeys captured by "Grandmother's Store" are shelved right alongside the jasmine massage oils, meditation CDs, tarot cards, evil eye bracelets, and incense sticks captured by "Inner Equinox". This also means I was able to pick up a cheesy Chesapeake Bay snowglobe and delicate blown glass Christmas ornament because I like to collect both on trips, and husband was able to pick up a white sage smudge stick because he likes to burn things.

Think of it as a new age metaphysical shop crossed with a quaint gift shop and you've got the Harmon House. The woman at the front desk, I did not get her name, is so sweet! She let us know about all of the classes and services they offer in addition to all of their neat gifts. Some of the things she mentioned were massages, reiki, and readings. I left with a gorgeous abalone shell ($11.99, such a steal!), a handmade magnet to remember my trip, and a few tumble stones. I couldn't be happier!

Lemme start this review! I was driving through White Stone, Va heading back to Norfolk and I noticed this interesting building and sign for Country Cottage in their parking lot. I whipped a u-turn and decided to check this place out. When you walk into this small establishment, you'll it split on the left side with floral arrangements that they sell, original Country Cottage products in the center, and a sweet tooth mecca on the right. I headed to the right when I walked in and met a sweet, patient young lady that greeted me. There is also another employee on the left side of the store through a serving window for the floral section. Country Cottage allows you to sample whatever you want no matter the volume!! I was blown away by that alone! I sampled 3 different ice cream flavors and 4 different fudge flavors!! I wanted to do more but another family came in during my last sample and I didn't want to be an inconsiderate twerp. I want to stress how patient the staff are while you're sampling. The young lady was not rushing me at all while I was thoroughly enjoying the samples. I chose a pint of the butter pecan flavored ice cream and it was delicioso! In the fudge department, I chose carrot cake, peanut butter chocolate, and apple pie. All of them were very sweet and tasted great. There is also outdoor seating with more plants that are outside should you choose to purchase some. Country Cottage makes several types of preserves in house and hot sauces. They make make more products, but I was too focused on the ice creams and fudge. If I'm in this area again, I'll definitely stop buy this wonderful business.
