Our family had a very upsetting experience with this company during one of the most difficult moments of our lives. My mother-in-law passed away in the middle of the night while under hospice care. we were told we needed to choose a facility immediately for transport. Our plan was a simple cremation, but we also wanted the opportunity to see her one last time to ensure she was treated with dignity. When we contacted the company, we " no one allows that" which is completely untrue. Other funeral homes later confirmed that viewing prior to cremation is absolutely allowed. we were also told we would be charged $500 just for the pickup. While we were willing to pay, the situation became far more distressing when they refused to release her without her estranged husband's signature-even though they have been separated for over 25 years. The funeral home we ultimately chose even reached out to them several times including at 3:30 Pm because they had not followed through as expected. It felt like our loved one was being held hostage until payment was made, which we paid immediately without hesitation. We were also questioned about whether we were having her cremated still,and why we were choosing another cremation provider, which felt inappropriate and unprofessional given the circumstances. The funeral home we ended up working with has been in business for over 60 years and told us they had never encountered behavior like this. During a time when compassion, professionalism, and respect are critical, this experience was the exact opposite. i would strongly urge others to carefully consider their options. read more

Don't use them if you don't have to. They are rude and completely uncompassionate. I did not end up using them for my aunt's cremation and called a place that was kinder and did not speak to me as if I was a burden to them. They might be less money, but the phrase you get what you pay for is exactly correct here. Go to an actual funeral home, and you will pay a bit more, but they will show compassion for your loved one and you as well. read more

They are very straight to the point and lack every level of sympathy and empathy that could ever be asked for during the most tragic time of anyone's life. I lost my mother Jan 31, 2023 and Resurrections Funeral Home located in Farmington Hills is who I chose to handle her remains (I knew I wanted direct cremation). When making the arrangements for them to pick her body up the lady who helped was really nice, but everyone else made me feel like I was there to only handle a transaction. I asked the lady who handled the arrangements with me if she would call me and let me know they my mother's remains were in their (Generations Funeral Home) care, and she was sure to call me. When I went to pick up the remains. I didn't meet with the same lady who I made the arrangements with, it was someone else. Who ever this other employee was seemed not to care that I was picking up the remains of my loved one (mother) and the way she just came and dropped the ashes off to me and walked away felt so transactional. Just because this place is very reasonably priced does not mean that they should have any LACK OF EMPATHY/SYMPOTHY for the mourners that are using their services. They DO NOT treat families as mourners, they are treated like CUSTOMERS. Just because they are direct cremation/burial does not give them the right to treat people like CUSTOMERS. We as loved ones are mourning the passing of people we care about and we should be treated as if we actually matter to the facility/staff that is handling our loved ones. This is the ONLY time I would ever use this funeral home and I would NEVER recommend Generations Cremation/Burial Service to anyone. The only reason I would ever suggest this place is if a family is absolutely unable to afford and this would be an absolute LAST resort. I had an absolutely appalling experience with these people when I went to pick up my mother's remains. As executor of her estate and named on her checking account, I tried to pay with her debit card. The man (white, late 20's/early 30's with a beard) seemed he didn't understand the difference between using a credit card and a debit card backed by a checking account, and proceeded to not-so-subtlety accuse me of trying to commit fraud. This, combined with being told I now had to make a separate trip to the bank to get a cashier's check - yes, I got upset. This person proceeded to gaslight me with "I dont know why you're getting so upset" and "what are you getting so upset for". The lack of empathy this person demonstrated was simply monstrous. As I was leaving to make this unnecessary trip to the bank, he literally yelled at me - YELLED at me - "When you come back try being a better person". Let the irony of that situation sink in - A gaslighting sociopath with no empathy not-so-subtlety accusing an aggrieved person of committing fraud, gaslighting them, and then yelling at THEM to be a "better person". When I came back about an hour later with the cashier's check, it was the same guy, and I showed him the statement of account that had me listed on the account (and definitively that these were also my funds), and he didn't even so much as apologize or acknowledge how out of line he was for his fraud accusations earlier. Please, please, please do not use these people. If they can pull this with me, they can do it to anyone. What kind of people think this is an appropriate way to interact with someone who is grieving? Getting out in front of this now, but I'm sure there will be a "response from the owner" that has more gaslighting or excuses as to why any of this was appropriate or called for. My daughter passed away in Michigan in November. My other daughter who lived close by made arrangments for Cremation. I talked with a lady there who was extremly helpful in helping returning my daughters ashes to me, in Florida. She had them boxed in a Human Remains Container and sent Overnight/Priority Mail and I received them 6 days later. This is by no means a problem with Generations, but a problem with the USPS. There is only one way to send ashes, and that is by USPS in a Box that you have to order online at no charge,Overnight /Priority .thanks to Generations Funeral home for everyting they did my Daughter, and myself. read more

When ordering death certificates - staff should tell them customers that only 1 should be ordered from the company - due to cause of death may be pending. To say that Generation Funeral & Cremation services are compassionate and helpful would be the lie of the century. They are cold, calloua and possible law breakers. Here's my story, I will be straight to the point. Mom passed 1/2023, siblings don't get along(3 in total), sister was at hospital when she passed. Was told I had 4hrs B4 she would be moved from room. Sister must have been waiting for this death as she made arrangement for direct cremation and pai within 36hrs of her death. d, it was completed by day 5. Sister refused to tell myself and brother wheee she was at and was forced to call the morgue to find out. That was friday. LM on generations VM with no return call, and left several as I was devastated and a total wreck. Called Monday and was greeted with" we were just about to call and let you know the remains are ready for pickup. That's how I was told she was cremated. Asked who authorized it and said personal representativ. MI law is majority must sign off. Majority wasn't even informed. Appearly they don't abide by the statue and they sure has he'll won't hand over the form to swe if it was even signed. Called and demanded this information and was told the PR of the estate can make that choice. WRONG!!! Picked up hale of her ashes and was told I could get all paperwork as mom did not have a personal representative form prior to death. Picked up ashes , they had me sign form stating I picked them up. They then did a switch a too and I left with my mom and not the form that granted sister to take To date, they sent death certificate(already have) and and receip, they want me to reach out with Owner Tim, Tim should be reaching out to me. Sister gave copy of will so they were alerted to other heirs with same standing. But , they did t care , as a mater of fact I broke down while on the phone and was told, "shes the PR she gets decision making, well so am I. Bottom line.....they are the cheapest around, the fast and will do ANYTHING to get a job done. Be very cautious of this firm, they can do whatever they want ,as they are protected under a the statue that they do not have to verify what payers information. kind of suspect they won't give over information even after giving them court documents that shows I AM THE PR. 1 out of 3 IS NOT THE MAJORITY UPDATE...... Just spoke with Tim, stated that the will named sister as PR of the estate. A body is not part of the estate according to MI. Still refusing to give form for authorization to cremate. Tim's in quoted that per the protected individual law that she has the right to decide for cremation the wI'll didn't even stayed that. Here's the law THE RIGHT TO MAKE FUNERAL ARRANGEMENT AND FINAL DISPOSITION DECISIONS. Michigan law empowers the deceased's next-of-kin to make funeral arrangement and final disposition decisions. When the next-of-kin status is shared by more than one individual the law allows decisions to be made by a majority of the individuals in the next-of-kin class. To illustrate, take the situation of a person who dies with no surviving spouse, but three children, and two of the children desire cremation while the third prefers burial. The cremation can proceed because a majority (two) of the next-of-kin are able to authorize it. With regard to missing individuals or those that can't be located, reasonable efforts (which include attempting to contact the person at his or her last known address, telephone number, or electronic mail address) must be undertaken by a family member, personal representative, or nominated personal representative. If reasonable efforts to locate are accomplished, however, the disposition can proceed, so long as there is a majority in the same degree of kinship as the missing individual authorizing it. If no next-of-kin exists or can be located after reasonable efforts, funeral arrangements and final disposition decisions are made by the individuals in the following order of priority: A guardian, if the deceased was under a guardianship at the time of death. A personal representative named in a will. A person who voluntarily steps forward to make arrangements and disposition decisions and petitions the Probate Court to obtain authority as a special personal representative or fiduciary. If no one else exists, then the county public administrator, if willing, or county medical examiner may make decisions. read more

Did not have the greatest experience with this business. Losing a loved one is never good but you would like to think that a business that offers cremation services and is in the business of working with people that have lost a family member would be a little more on top of their game. I will say they did a good job picking up my mom in a timely fashion and showing up when we called after my mom passed away at her assisted living facility. The man that came was polite and respectful. But from that point on communication was poor and they took forever to cremate her. I kept calling to check, they never called back or called me to inform me of what was going on. Took them 9 days before she was actually cremated. Luckily we are holding a memorial service a month out, so it worked out, but I couldn't help think about what if we had needed the cremains for a timely service in 2 to 4 days? It also bothered me to think of my mother's body there for that length of time with no one attending to her. I inquired about the death certificates and they told me that they weren't registered yet and it was Macomb County's fault because they were having a work slowdown because of their clerk and that there was nothing they could do. So I called Macomb County myself, only to find out that I could pick up the death certificates in St. Clair Shores myself. Went the next day only to find out that they had sent a driver out earlier in the day and picked them up themselves without telling me, so a wasted trip on my part, and now the certificates were in Farmington Hills, 30+ miles away from me. When I called them to inquire, they didn't apologize or clarify why the mixup. The day after she was finally cremated, I sent a relative to pick up the cremains, I talked to Generations on the phone and asked if I could prepay so that the relative wouldn't have to deal with it. They said yes, I gave them my credit card number, they called me back a while later to tell me it was denied. I call my credit card company, they told me that the person there had put in the security code wrong twice. I called them back and told them try again. This time it went through. So just incompetent all around in my opinion. Thankfully these aren't the kinds of things you have to deal with frequently, but maybe that's why they don't care or try very hard. read more

I'm in Florida on vacation, my wife's mother dies. They say they need three siblings' signatures to get her cremated (I never heard of this either). I was in a campground with no fax or print/scanning capabilities. On top of this, he insults my wife by essentially calling her a Luddite when she recommends digital signatures! Rude and inconsiderate person! I talked to the guy on the phone, and he is entirely unaccommodating and inconsiderate, Tells me to sign up for adobe! That costs $15.00 per month. Offers no alternative had to take two hours out of my time to go to a FedEx store to get this done!! These people won't come out of the dark ages and won't use modern age technologies like a docu - sign. Take your loved one to anyone other than these people my recommendation! If this guy I talked to wasn't the owner, he should be fired immediately. If he was the owner, he should fire himself! He's in the wrong business. My recommendation is never to use these people. I work in a profession, where compassion is the ultimate value. You would think that a funeral home would encompass the same values. Not this place. The gentleman who runs this business is rude and has no compassionate tone in his voice whatsoever. Have never experienced, especially in the middle of a heart wrenching loss, the coldness of a business person who should have at least tried to show a little bit of fake warmth. I am from Pittsburgh Pa. And my son passed away where he lived in Grosse Ponte Woods MI. He was taken to the Wayne County Medical examiner's on Dec. 11,2021. I spoke with the director of the Generations Funeral home in Farmington Hills, Gail Cosgriff and she was very sympathetic. And empathetic to me, especially since 33 days before my son died in Michigan, my wife passed away here in Pittsburgh. All went well with the cremation, and shipping the cremains, however the death certificate stated that the cause of death was under investigation. During all of this, I had many questions and spoke to Tim who gave me his email address for further questions, but never returned my emails. I had to call and speak again with the director who was very nice and answered my questions. Fast forward to January. I called and spoke to Tim to inquire about the cause of death who stated that it takes 7 weeks for the report for the medical examiner to reach them and for me to call back. Tim was short with me and dismissive which is one thing a grieving person does not need. Here today is February 9, 2022 and I called again to inquire about my son's cause of death and spoke to Jacob who like his counterpart Tim was short with me and dismissive and then told me that it will take another 3 to 4 months before a cause of death comes in. I must say that Tim and Jacob did address me as sir numerous times, but when you get to be my age, you can tell when politeness is required for your job, and not how you were raised. Neither of these to men had sympathy, or empathy, but rather demonstrated a hastiness to get off of the phone. I know that they are not representative of the good people of Michigan so I just wrote it off, but will unfortunately have to deal with them again in 3 or 4 months. First of all if it were possible to give zero stars I would. My mother (Carmen Wynn) passed away last night. I called Generations because her wishes were to be cremated. Brad returned my call and boy was he awful (unprofessional, rude, short, and irritated by my mother's death). My husband called today, only to encounter Tim. Tim was even more awful than Brad (unsympathetic, rude and mean spirited). Neither Tim nor Brad should be in this business. You do not have the skills to support and sympathize with a grieving family. If you are looking for funeral/cremation services, avoid Generations and most certainly avoid Brad and Tim. After multiple attempts to get the urn with my son's cremains, the young man we picked it up from went so far as to shake the corrected urn and grin when he handed back the cremains. This was after multiple phone conversations where he was very rude and dismissive. We have tried to call the owner twice but can't get thru to him. My husband tried calling to verify what we were told by hospice what the process was and was actually yelled at by the employee and told his mother is still laying in the hospital because he messed up. For a business dealing with grief they have no compassion whatsoever. 4-11-2020 I have spoken with several people at Generations Cremation Service and every single one was rude, short of words and didn't not show any remorse for the person I lost, my step-father. Tim and Rich are just two of the name. Not one person said they were sorry for my lost. I asked what were the hours of the company so i could make up the death certifications and remains and Tim said I will call you when we are done. My question was what are the hours. They are so rude. He told me sorry I'm having a bad day. Really, a bad day? I lost my stepdad I'm having more that a bad day and this company really sucks. Go somewhere else! This was the most incompetent place I've ever had to deal with. They blamed the county, senior facility and anyone they could for their many delays, mistakes and lack of communication. Couldn't coordinate the death certificate. They took 2 weeks to cremate my mother. Gail completely misinformed me on MDHHS procedure. They have one fax number and nobody checks it or responds to them. Almost 2 MONTHS and I finally received my mother's remains. They couldn't even do the very expensive overnight shipping right. These people do not care about you or your passing loved ones. Unfortunately it was necessary to contact this organization. I was unimpressed by the level or lack thereof for compassion and or friendliness. Although they are a cremation service the fact of the matter is that it is an unpleasant and painful time for those that have the necessity to procure their services. Any degree of compassion or acknowledging the individuals loss would seem appropriate by staff however that appears to be too high of an expectation. This experience wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either. My husband died unexpectedly, and although I knew his wishes were to be cremated I had no idea where to go or who to call. The Social Worker at the hospital suggested Generations. The hospital called them when he died and I spoke to them. The person I spoke with said they would be out in 60-90 minutes and that it would be "the last time I would see him." While logically I understood this, it seemed like kind of a harsh thing to say at the time. The people who came to pick him up were nice enough and allowed me to help transfer him to the stretcher and kiss him goodbye. The told me it would be 6-7 days for the cremation, which seemed like a long time, but again what do I know. I took a full 7 days. The place I went to pick him up was in a strip mall and you have to ring a bell to get in. So I'm standing there waiting to be let in and wishing I had asked someone to come with me. The woman who answered the door was not what I expected or hoped for. She was not rude, but she was also not kind. She was cold, I know this is was she does every day, but she acted like it was just another transaction not the death of my husband. As a side note, why did they need to call his ashes "cremains"? That's an awful word and it sounds awful. read more

Contacted Generations Funeral home in advance to arrange my Mother's cremation, as she was not doing well and in hospice care. They quoted me $695 for cremation and $120 to have my mother's ashes shipped out of state. Once I received my Mother the actually postage price was $70.40. I contacted them to let them know I paid $120 vs the actual cost of $70.40. The older lady I spoke with was very cold and told me "Our flat rate for shipping is $120." That's a $49.60 difference. She said, "Well, we had to go to the postal office and get a box and ship it." First of all, who is "it"? They are taking advantage of the love ones that are left behind grieving, by taken our money! read more

I read some nasty reviews and felt it imperative that I share mine. Our adult son died suddenly in our home in October 2015 and Generations handled the cremation and obtaining death certificates so professionally. We remembered them from handling my husband's sisters funeral in 2010 and went with them for that reason. We also had very little money and our 29 yr old son didn't leave any. I was pretty much in a fog but they couldn't have been nicer and I do not feel that they took advantage of us at all. Would definitely recommend them again. read more

They did a wonderful job from start to finish. They took the time to sit with us and answer every question we had without making us feel rushed, which was much appreciated. During the service they were nearby when needed (bringing extra chairs, etc.) without being intrusive. We felt that they did an excellent job preparing our grandfather's body -- he looked natural and peaceful, which was an additional comfort. read more
