My mother-in-law passed away in the middle of the night while under hospice care. we were told we needed to choose a facility immediately for transport. Our plan was a simple cremation, but we also wanted the opportunity to see her one last time to ensure she was treated with dignity. When we contacted the company, we " no one allows that" which is completely untrue. Other funeral homes later confirmed that viewing prior to cremation is absolutely allowed. we were also told we would be charged $500 just for the pickup. While we were willing to pay, the situation became far more distressing when they refused to release her without her estranged husband's signature-even though they have been separated for over 25 years. The funeral home we ultimately chose even reached out to them several times including at 3:30 Pm because they had not followed through as expected. It felt like our loved one was being held hostage until payment was made, which we paid immediately without hesitation. We were also questioned about whether we were having her cremated still, and why we were choosing another cremation provider, which felt inappropriate and unprofessional given the circumstances. The funeral home we ended up working with has been in business for over 60 years and told us they had never encountered behavior like this. During a time when compassion, professionalism, and respect are critical, this experience was the exact opposite. i would strongly urge others to carefully consider their options.

They might be less money, but the phrase you get what you pay for is exactly correct here. But they did a great job this time with my mom's funeral so I wanted to update my rating. My team of Samantha, Mary and Eric did a great job from start to finish. At my initial meeting with Samantha, I expressed some concerns about what had happened the last time and she assured me that the team would have a seamless approach and they did (especially important as Samantha was going on holiday and the team was changing mid stream). There was none of the pressure this time to upgrade all the choices you are offered in terms of coffins, flowers, etc. There were solutions offered to questions raised on flowers, on how things would be set up and even when they heard my brother and I discussing that mom looked a little pale, they added some blush before her visitation to keep her looking her best. I asked that the obituary be a little more personal and I wrote up some thoughts and they incorporated it into the final piece and it really was well done. I also liked that they took our uploaded pictures from her obituary page and turned them into a video montage that we could show during our luncheon that showcased my mom's life. Each child was also given a stick with it on afterwards to keep the memories. Maybe it went better this time because I was more knowledgeable and knew to look out for the pitfalls. Or maybe they changed their policies. Or maybe it was a combination of the two. But whatever the reason, they delivered on what I needed them to do- be a solutions oriented team so that I could grieve and not have to keep thinking about what I might have missed. Thank you!

I ended up standing for over an hour right by the guest sign-in book. The screen across from the large couch scrolled through selected family photos. There was a closet for coats. Another larger room set up with chairs for the scripture readings. The first room upon entry was a big room and conducive for standing, since there wasn't a lot of seating. I was glad I had come during a time with less people. The staff were buzzing around and at some point had to interrupt conversations to round up the siblings ahead of the readings.

Where do I start with Honor Memorial? We used this company on our family's recommendation because…read morethey did a great job. However, this was not our experience at all. Let's start with the fact that it took 3 hours after the original call for them to pick up my father, in the heat. After one person arrived, we still waited for a co-worker from Ann Arbor to arrive, an additional 30 minutes before he was taken into their care. Joe called me around 12 that day to let me know he would call later with information. He never called; in fact, every time Joe said he would call me back, he never did. I called almost every day to get information on what was happening with the body and what paperwork and such we needed to do. Finally, around Wednesday/Thursday, we received the paperwork to have him "taken into their care" and give them the ability to cremate. On Friday, 7/17, I called looking for an update and was told by Joe that he was "confident" my father would be ready on Tuesday. He also said he would call. I honestly did not wait for Joe to call because of his track record with calling me back. When I called on Tuesday afternoon, they did not have my father's death certificates back or his death certificate, and blamed it on the county circuit court. Finally, after much frustration, I called on Wednesday and demanded to know when I could pick up my father. Joe then went on to have a conversation with me about my gaslighting, implying that we had discussed timelines and how much the service cost before. We had in fact never had these conversations; the only time we spoke in length was when he was trying to convince my family that we shouldn't see his body.....which I wonder why?? He went as far as to say it might traumatize us. Finally, my mother and I went to pick up his ashes and death certificates on Wednesday. We then took Thursday to recover mentally and physically, as my mother and I are both disabled. Imagine my surprise when Joe called me multiple times on Friday about a review that my sister-in-law had left. She had apparently left a negative review, and he wanted to talk to me about it. He continued to try to tell me information about my experience that was untrue. In fact, I was so confused about what he was talking about that I put him on speaker, and my immediate family sat in awe. I would not recommend this place at all. If I could leave less than one star, I would. It seems like they are more concerned with being a body factory, picking up way too many people than they can handle, and not keeping families in the loop. Please take your loved one somewhere else; maybe they will be more concerned about their clients and less concerned about their reviews.

Sadly my Mother died in a matter of weeks of becoming ill with Covid-19. Once my Mother's death was near I reached out to David Griffin to see what type of arrangements were being held at this strange time, since everything was shut down. David was so comforting to talk with and understanding of our situation (which also included my parents pre-arranging & paying for their funeral ahead of time at a different firm). David assured me he would make every accommodation he could to honor what was done with the other firm. About a week later my mother passed peacefully in her sleep. We called Griffin Funeral Home early in the morning to make arrangements to bring my mother into their care. The person who answered the phone was extremely pleasant and transferred us to Larry Griffin. Larry assured us Mom would be brought into their care within an hour. We made arrangements with Mary Bartlett over the phone later in the day and scheduled a time to come in and finalize things on Monday. Mary was exceedingly kind, compassionate and helpful during our meeting. We scheduled the Funeral for Friday Morning with my mother being buried after. My Mother looked beautiful. The Funeral Home was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The Staff all kind and comforting. Larry Griffin handled our service on Friday and was very personable and professional, David Griffin made a special trip to come by and greet us, Mary Bartlett did an amazing job coordinating the service and details and Barbara in the office helped answer mine and my father's many questions. Everything was handled perfectly and is much appreciated. I could not think of anything more they could have done! Thank You just seems to little for all you did.
