Good to have this place re-done! Good afternoon crowd and numerous live bands performing weekly! Good looking bartenders too!

What kind of bar is Gene's lounge now? It used to be a country and western more years ago wanting to know the update on what it is now

It has reopened as Rodeo Rock. We fancy ourselves as a dance club featuring country and rock and roll music that we all can dance to. Live bands on Fridays and Sarurdays along with karaoke on Wednesday and ladies night on thursdays. Come on down!

Intermission is a local bar and on top of that, it's a no frills kind of place. I first came here…read moreduring my time as a student at UWF in 2016. Seven years later, not much (if anything that I can tell) has changed. They don't do gimmicky promotions or decorations to attract the hoards of tourists. The people tend to be regulars and the experience is as mid as it gets. Bartenders are not friendly, but they are quick. Crowd is overall chill but you get your occasional drunk who starts a fight or can't take a no. Pool tables in the back are cool and there's a second bar back there that's sometimes a little less crowded than the one up front by the main entrance. Place tends to have a lingering bleach smell during the day so it's reassuring they clean. Hahaha. The one thing this place could improve upon is their patio. Just a concrete pad with a few raggedy tables. Could be cool if they added a small stage or outdoor bar and a fire pit for cooler weather. But then again, that's kind of why this place is a bit of an Oasis for the locals. They don't do all that extra stuff.

But after what happened tonight, we won't be coming back unless serious action is taken. My wife politely asked if you had jelly shots, and after the bartender (Chris, with the beard) checked, she genuinely said, "Thank you for looking." His response? He turned around and called her a "salty piece of shit." Loud enough for others to hear. Absolutely disgusting. There is zero excuse for that kind of unprovoked, disrespectful behavior from someone representing your business. If your staff can't handle basic manners or show the slightest level of professionalism, they shouldn't be behind a bar, period. Chris should be fired immediately. If not, it says everything about how management tolerates abusive and misogynistic behavior toward women. We expect a response from management--either to apologize directly or to let us know what steps are being taken. Until then, we'll be taking our money elsewhere and making sure our friends do the same.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!…read more Signature items: non-functional air conditioning, long wait times, inconsistent food, and the rapidly-growing sense that we weren't welcome... with a side order of food poisoning to go. We went for Father's Day. There was a burger special for the occasion, but only for "lunch," and we'd missed it by an hour. They would not work with us, which is... understandable but kinda lame. There was nothing else for dinner or even a drink special. Late-June, humid, Florida, almost no breeze, right before a storm, 90+ degrees outside. It was almost as hot inside as outside, the service was slow, the food was bland and unevenly heated, the decor was an identity crisis, everything was AGGRESSIVELY MEXICAN but with an "850" brand because lip service apparently equals authenticity. We got the sense after a short while of watching the owner/manager/whoever pal around with other patrons that this was less of a business and more of a hangout... and that we were simply the wrong demographic. My burger patty was bland, the onion rings had no flavor, the mozzarella sticks were like rubber, the birria was watery grease slop, the quesadilla was watery grease slop flavored like beef, the alfredo was cold in the middle and molten at the edges (microwaved?), the shrimp was smothered in sauce and sorta chewy, the drinks came whenever someone happened to think about it, and everything felt either too big or like somebody had a brilliant idea to turn a normal dish into a gastrointestinal gamble with Mexican "flavor." I cannot understate how much effort they put into slapping their brand on everything, only for it to feel like a crappy Mexican start-up with no identity of its own. Once you get past the beach-themed exterior (surrounded by pine trees and several miles from anything resembling sand), it's just a generic Mexican sports bar that plays hip hop a smidge too loudly, throws its identity everywhere, fails to live up to expectations, and creates an identity crisis with each menu item. The fact that the owner/manager/whoever seemed to be having business discussions (angrily) directly behind our table and was openly enthusiastic to greet any non-White patrons while otherwise just pacing and sipping his drink made the place feel even more unprofessional. The place was almost EMPTY, and the only person to speak to us was the one overworked server who was clearly trying to do 90% of the work while everyone else sat around the bar and shouted at the World Cup on tv. This place has the vibe of a family reunion where the customers are unwelcome party crashers who can at least be milked of a few bucks. We averaged $25 per person for a party of 6, all took our food home because it was either bland and needed seasoning that was not provided... or we were no longer comfortable being in the building, and each of us has now had digestive issues for 3 days running. You couldn't pay me to return.
