I was only here in the area temporarily, and I was looking for a small hole in the wall bar to go to to get away from the crowd. Wisteria did not disappoint. I'm here in Pensacola with my dog and this was the best place to take her where we were both equally happy!! My baby girl was more than welcomed in the time that I've been here to it ended up becoming a once a week routine to come in. We enjoyed it so much! This is a small bar and eatery. Everything was fine. The salad that I had was big and fresh and my wife enjoyed her sandwich. The place was not busy and yet our server/bartender was very inattentive. She brought us our drinks and never returned. Perhaps we would have had more drinks if she would have checked on us....had to hunt her down to pay our bill. Way over priced for what we received. I used to come here with my parents in the 1950's. I was part of the group of kids who sat in the back seat of the car while the parents were in drinking a beer. Of course I thought we were the only ones until I saw a posting on FB from someone else who sat in the backseat while their parents were inside, Anyway, when I moved back here I had to show it to my almost 60 year old son and tell him the story. We visited with family the week between Christmas and New Years and were struck by the variety of spaces and activities, food and drink selection, cleanliness, service, and the extent to which they are family friendly. They had a food truck on site (What the Cluck -- five-star chicken wings), corn hole, plenty of seating, multiple big screens outside playing the Seminoles game, trivia night inside, and a jukebox and music videos playing at the bar. My toddler ordered two soft pretzels from a rotating heat lamp machine, and I'm not sure what our bartender did to them, but they were really, really good! read more

As others say, if you don't know the place look for the neon beer signs. Parking is behind the property. There are 10-12+ bar stools at the bar proper, and a couple of tables besides the outdoor seating. They have 18 beers on tap as of today, a heck of a selection IMO. Bottled beer on top of the taps. Popcorn munchies available on request. I was greeted promptly by the bartender. They accept bank cards and cash. In other words, not just cash. Overall the vibe is very chill and welcoming. Lots of beer. LOTS of beers. Beers on draught, beers in bottles, beers in cans. True, not as varied of a selection as Hopjack's, but if you drove by this place, you'd never suspect the beery goodness that beckons from within. This is not a dive bar. It is the oldest continuously-open bar in Pcola, from what I know. It's in a residential area and the only commercial enterprise for several blocks. The tree tunnel that has survived many hurricanes will guide you here, and I'd suggest this place if you are visiting Pcola and want a taste of local flavor. There's no smoking inside. Some people like that. Probably *most* people like that, even people that smoke. If you huff those puffs, there is a nice patio area out of the back door and convenient to the outhouses. Last that I knew, the Wisteria is pet friendly. Or dog friendly, at least. Anybody that would bring their cat or goldfish to a bar is subject to institutionalization, I'd think. Mark that word as the longest ever used in a Yelp review. I've seen and have pictures of many puppies inside. It's kind of relaxing. I've never been here and failed to meet nice and friendly people. I have lots of pictures to prove that, too. Nobody is snobby, even when I'm slugging $2 tall-boys of PBR. Play some Skee-Ball and settle down. As noted by previous reviewers, the bathrooms are worse than Port-o'-Johns. Outhouses would be an improvement. From a talk with the present owner, it is a result of zoning laws and the constraints placed by regulatory authorities on improvements. Still, I think that they could do something. Seriously, I generally just stumble around outside and pee on somebody's tires. It's not worth picking up pathogens and cooties in the bathrooms. Have an exit strategy when you park. The "parking lot" is more like Sherwood Forest...lots of trees big enough to win a bumper battle if you wish to joust. There is no rhyme or reason to it, just practice some defensive parking. Have fun! This is out of the way for most folks, but worth the effort and time. Give it a try and post your thoughts. read more

As dive bars go - this is it. As good as it gets. The ultimate. A plywood shack with jukebox, detached bathroom facility/outhouse, cold beer, pool table. You never know who will show up at the Wisteria...local politicos, business owners, musicians on their way through town, van loads of sorority girls and frat boys...they all come to the Wisteria. The 'Wis' is small in size, but large in character. Many salty regulars populate the interior of this oversized tool-shed of a bar. The open rafter ceiling is adorned with an eclectic collection of artifacts, including a carved wooden mermaid bowsprit. The quality and selection of bottled and draft, craft beers is bountiful. Found this place on yelp by accident and chose to go because the stars were higher than every thing else close by and WE WERE BLOWN AWAY! First thing, the bar is located in the middle of a suburb of Pensacola and looks nothing like a bar. I thought we were lost at first and got a little worried that we drove past it lol. When we found it and parked we walked in and was greeted by the bartender immediately with a welcome. The inside of it looks like a garage with decor all on the rafters which makes for some interesting site seeing while drinking. Now this place only serves beer so if you're looking for a different fix then you may want to find another spot but the selection is great! The bartender recommended a Narragansett Lager (The Beer From Jaws) since I love Lagers and I'm hooked! I'm just upset that I can't find it anywhere down here in New Orleans!!!!! We had such a good time with the bartender and his friend LT that when we looked up it was only us 4 left in bar when it was closing time. We will be back every time we are in Pensacola. This place is a gem and to say it's the oldest bar there (1932), I can see it being around forever and ever. read more

One of the venerable historic bars in Pensacola. It is tucked away in the historic East Hills part of Pensacola off of 12th avenue and features a "Dive bar" atmosphere with a whole lot of character. You won't find huge, unmanageable crowds here although on Friday or Saturday nights it will be comfortably populated. You will find a treasure trove of little details in side that just gives it a unique character that you are guaranteed not to find anywhere else. A lot of the "amenties" are probably the same as they were 30 - 40 years ago, as this is the oldest bar in Pensacola. Because of this they are "grandfathered" in and aren't allowed to make any real changes to the bar without adversely effecting its zoning. No food, no hard liquor - but your welcome to bring your own and often times you'll meet patrons that gladly display their hospitality by offering to "share" whatever edibles they've brought. The seats are comfortable, they have an outside area for smoking and feature some games inside. While you'll won't find the zany atmosphere of a downtown bar on a Friday night, what you will find is a fairly impressive collection of draft beers, mostly in bottles, but several on draft and they do serve wine if you have friends along that happen to be beer-averse. All in all, if you are in the Pensacola area, drop by and say 'hi' and I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

This place just rocketed to one of my favorite places in Pensacola. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but it's small and charming on the inside. This place is a dive. Not in the way that it's filthy and sketchy (it's not), but in the way that it's a little transformed house, and sometimes you will walk in and not a soul will be inside. You wont just stumble into this bar unless you're looking for it. I like that in a bar. Good and decently priced craft beer selection. Friendly bartenders. I don't think they have a liquor license? I could be wrong about that..but I think its beer and wine only. All locals, and a cool outdoor space. I'm not sure if its dog friendly inside, but the neighbor dog is always in there. My fav little off the side of the road dive bar. It's not cheap but not pricey and they have a great selection of beer. No liquor though.
