We've been regulars at Intermission for a while now--loyal customers who've always enjoyed the atmosphere. But after what happened tonight, we won't be coming back unless serious action is taken. My wife politely asked if you had jelly shots, and after the bartender (Chris, with the beard) checked, she genuinely said, "Thank you for looking." His response? He turned around and called her a "salty piece of shit." Loud enough for others to hear. Absolutely disgusting. There is zero excuse for that kind of unprovoked, disrespectful behavior from someone representing your business. If your staff can't handle basic manners or show the slightest level of professionalism, they shouldn't be behind a bar, period. Chris should be fired immediately. If not, it says everything about how management tolerates abusive and misogynistic behavior toward women. We expect a response from management--either to apologize directly or to let us know what steps are being taken. Until then, we'll be taking our money elsewhere and making sure our friends do the same. read more

Wife and I wanted to spend the night walking Palafox. Ended up here and ordered a beer and a margarita and asked to split some cash for the pool tables. The ginger bartender with the beard immediately had an attitude off the rip. Mind you it's 7 pm and we just walked in. I'm not sure if he thought we were already tipsy or what but he was very rude and practically interrogated us when we asked for some drinks. He was the same way with a few other patrons and they caught on quick and left the place with no tip. My 2 cents? Fire this bartender and hire someone on who is a bit more respectful and courteous. read more

Intermission is a local bar and on top of that, it's a no frills kind of place. I first came here during my time as a student at UWF in 2016. Seven years later, not much (if anything that I can tell) has changed. They don't do gimmicky promotions or decorations to attract the hoards of tourists. The people tend to be regulars and the experience is as mid as it gets. Bartenders are not friendly, but they are quick. Crowd is overall chill but you get your occasional drunk who starts a fight or can't take a no. Pool tables in the back are cool and there's a second bar back there that's sometimes a little less crowded than the one up front by the main entrance. Place tends to have a lingering bleach smell during the day so it's reassuring they clean. Hahaha. The one thing this place could improve upon is their patio. Just a concrete pad with a few raggedy tables. Could be cool if they added a small stage or outdoor bar and a fire pit for cooler weather. But then again, that's kind of why this place is a bit of an Oasis for the locals. They don't do all that extra stuff. read more

0 stars! HOSTILE! Made my friend cry. Bartender & owner extremely HOSTILE!! Me sitting quietly at the bar.... Friend and wife came to the bar so I bought them drinks. Friends wife said "really?" After being told to pull ID out of wallet (she's 36) the bartender decided to flip out and start yelling at my friends and then kicking them out. Then kicking me out because my hat was on backwards ( I pointed out that his fellow bartender had a backwards hat). After everything settled out I politely asked the bartender what the issue was to which he went on a SCREAMING diatribe about how people do their jobs and wailing about my friends. After he calmed down I spoke up and told him he was being an ass and acting like a child(this guy was 50-60) then began to leave the bar. As I was a walking out the door an older white man who I can only assume is the the owner kept shoving me multiple times even though I was already outside and walking away from this shit hole of a place. read more

After visiting another bar down the street & not getting any service my husband, friend, & I decided to go here. We had walked by it previously, noted it was busy, & were gonna come here for our second stop anyway. We were served immediately! The beers were super cold and the bartender was friendly! I asked if he had any koozies for our bottles. He was nice enough to go look for me. Unfortunately, they were out because of the event the night before. He even remembered my name when we cashed out which is always nice! The bar was a lot bigger than we expected. There were 3 rooms total & an outdoor patio. There were also pool tables, darts, & other games for entertainment. It was a mixed crowd of young & old which balances itself out nicely. The DJ in the front played fun tunes which kept the crowd energized. It really reminded me of the bars we'd go to in Jacksonville. We definitely will be coming back! read more

Let me start by saying I have been a loyal customer to Intermission pretty much every weekend for about six months now. Tonight, I only had my military ID. (Which is a government issued ID with both my picture and date of birth on it) not only did I get denied of buying a drink EVEN THOUGH I am of age, the bar tender called a cop to escort me out. Which is funny because I spoke to that exact cop prior to him talking to the bar tender and asked him if my military ID was a valid ID and he said yes. I left without question but the bartender had the AUDACITY to tell the cop he had already asked me to leave. He did NOT. I am appalled at the dishonest, unpatriotic, and rude behavior from a place that is supposed to display hospitality. I am a teacher and trust me when I say I DESERVE A DRINK EVERY NOW AND THEN. The bartender also made it a point that every bar I would go to after would turn me down. Once again, he was wrong. Every bar we attended afterward served me drinks. He said it was "Florida Law" but google said otherwise. With no longer be a customer! As well as the other 10 people I was with. Very disappointed. read more

Well I've now been to Intermission twice in the past few weeks and it is growing on me. At first glance, there is nothing special going on here. It's basically a bar in Downtown Pensacola. Pretty much what you would expect. Fortunately, my friend knows the owner so we got some pretty good stories out of him on both of our visits, including that the tiles that make up the walls in the front room of the bar are rare antique tiles. Apparently when he tried to look around for buyers, the Historic Pensacola folks barred him from selling them and so they remain. Another is that this particular bar, for reasons I still don't understand, sells more Rumple Minze (a peppermint schnapps) than anywhere else in the country or something like that. Random. Okay when I said good stories I pretty much meant that they are different than your average bar conversations. This place also makes some killer mixed drinks so if that's your kind of thing, this is a good place to get something elaborate since it's going to be awesome. Caution: These drinks do not taste at ALL like alcohol so you could easily stumble your way out of there without meaning to be quite so tipsy. The downside (and this is a big negative for me) is that this is one of a few bars in Pensacola that has yet to ban smoking and, well, for someone who hates being around smoke, I'd just as soon go somewhere else where I don't have to be around it. read more

En route to Sandestin, I stopped by this place for a drink. The place was almost entirely empty -- the emptiness made more apparent by the cavernous size with all its nooks -- but I liked this place and felt it a shame that it wasn't as crowded as what appeared to be the meat-headier places up the street. First, they have a pretty big selection of beer (in bottles but it's uber cheap so if your preferred beer is not on tap it's not a problem); the drinks are damn stiff so you can sip on one drink for the entire night or you can get blitzed for cheap; and third, the bar keep was super cool (he's the former baseball player who gave us a free beer just because we inquired about local favorites' brew and he wanted us to try it and he was super helpful when it came to making suggestions about other places to drink). Intermission is the most aptly named bar I've ever been to, so before I even kick this thing off, kudos to the owner and/or marketing team that nailed that one. This is definitely a place that you go to between things that you're doing. That isn't an insult at all, that's a type of place that is quintessential to a great evening. The bartenders, W.J. (not to be confused with J.W.) and Curt, were as affable and comforting as anyone that I've ever met. Curt is a jazz musician who performs all over Pensacola with his band, The Curt Bol Band. From what I've gathered, they're the real deal, a band that can provide an evening of soul nourishing, heart calming jazz. They're playing the Pensacola JazzFest at Seville Square Park on April 6th and you deserve a swift kick to your boring stay-at-home fanny if you miss it. The only negative experience I had at this bar was some wasted local losing control of a pool cue causing it to land alarmingly hard and close to my foot so be wary of extremely drunk and uncoordinated amateur pool players in here, always make sure to protect your feet! read more

I had a great time here. The service was good. Some friendly people. Pool, skee ball, darts, fooz ball, other games. I played a song on the juke box by the pool tables, never heard it. Intermission was a favorite Fri night hangout when I was in flight school, and young and dumb. Now being old and dumb, I figured it was worth another visit. At first glance it isn't much (maybe don't attempt a daylight sober trip) compared to the other downtown Pensacola options. But you also have to realize that this is a dive bar and accept it for what it is. Service is quick, drinks are cold, and music isn't too bad (I think they do live music on various nights). What a great place! This place is just vintage & sooo cool. Hubby & I found this place on a walk down Palafox. GREAT JOINT!!! The bartender was an awesome guy, very friendly and actually the OWNER! He was helpful & nice, recommended a restaurant...I mean he walked us out the back doors, turned us towards the place & pointed..."right there... can't miss it!" Worst bar I've ever been to in my life! Drinks are horrible, staff is horrible, everything about this place is horrible. I had the cops called on me because I was sitting at the bar waiting for my husband to come out of the bathroom who had my ID, besides the fact that you had to present your ID before even entering the building. A white-haired, beared bartender has stolen multiple credit cards from my friends and me and then has proceeded to kick us out upon inquiring about our cards. Police were involved and said, "you are right, I'm sorry, but the bar is always right." After involving police outside, the bartender was seen handing a credit card from behind the bar to a bouncer and saying "tell her you just found this on the ground." While visiting a friend in Pensacola we stopped into a number of the local bars around the downtown area. Intermission was one of my favorites. Drinks were great, the staff was awesome (especially owner Mike!) and of course they had skeeball, darts and a few pool tables. Huge outdoor smoking/drinking area if you need a break from the noise. Super fun little bar on Palafox! I'd recommend to get here before 10:00pm on a weekend night if you're looking to sit and chat with friends. The place gets super crowded after 10pm because their is so much to gain from in the spot. If you are in the market for networking, meeting new friends, or just looking to catch a ball game this is a great spot. It's located in downtown Pensacola and happens to be a hidden gem within the locals. It also has great happy hour specials, reasonably priced outside of happy hour and a friendly staff. This is our first time in downtown Pensacola and so far we have visited a few bars that weren't our speed. This place is definitely a down to earth local bar that is friendly to out of town people. The owner Mike and the staff did a great job making small talk and making us feel at home. Always on point with drinks. They have pool, foosball, punching bag, and skeeball. I have been going to intermission for 18 years. I've been in Colorado the last 13 and I wanted to go in the other day to reminisce and have a beer. I am a disabled veteran and had my service dog and the owner told me that dogs weren't allowed. I pointed out that she was a service dog and wearing her vest and he said, "uh, questionable service dog." I asked him why he had to say that. And he pointed at me up and down, I guess to hint that he couldn't see any physical problems me. I told what he was doing was illegal and he told me if I wanted to go that route that I could get the eff out. I went to a couple of other bars and everyone was furious after hearing my story and they all said he has a reputation for being a total ahole. He definitely shouldn't be in the service industry that's for certain. I'm glad to read some other reviews and get the validation and see I'm not the only one who noticed this poor behavior. read more

Many times I've planned on Intermission being my first stop on a night out on the town, only to end up staying and going nowhere else. Or stopping there first, having a drink, going to my second stop, and wishing I hadn't left my spot at Intermission to go to the second place. Or... stopping at Intermission first, hitting multiple spots after, and going back by Intermission to close out the night. What is wrong with all you people and your reviews. This place is awesome. I wish I had somewhere like this where I am now. The owner is the best thing since sliced bread. This place is the cheers of Pensacola. It is the place where everybody knows your name. Many people that I know met their husbands here and the greatest people ever go here. It is a fun atmosphere. Popped in here one saturday night to try out different bars. Started off with a beer for me and a friend. It took a while for me to get my card and the tab back. I decided I would skip the tip this round. The bartender literally walked up to me and my group of friends and told me that I forgot to tip. This is where she told me that if I don't tip, I would have a VERY hard time getting my next drink. I couldn't believe she actually took the time to walk over to me and stop serving, to beg for a tip out of me. I reminded her that I did not forget and that a tip is a tip for a reason, and it is not mandatory. read more

I came here Saturday night with a group of about 10 people. I ordered nothing but a cup of water and was asked for my ID... umm... okay. That's fine. I gave my Florida issued ID which clearly shows that I am well above the legal drinking age (there is absolutely nothing wrong with my ID; it is not bent or scratched). Bartender asked for another ID? Fine, I gave him my foreign ID which also shows my name (which matches my Florida ID) and clearly shows my date of birth. I was refused a cup of water by a super rude older bartender (a guy that said he was 47). I'm baffled that I was refused a cup of water when the 9 other people I was with were all going to order drinks. Mind you he was the ONLY bartender in the back section of this bar and it was dead. So not only did this establishment miss out on the business of 9 people but he also missed out on their tips on such a slow night. Then he proceeded to yell at my husband who tried to stick up for me. What a joke!!! Don't come to this place. It's NOT worth it read more

We went here as our first stop of the night with our group and went straight to the back bar to get drinks. I got a few shots for us and wasn't ID'd (you have to be 21 to even enter this bar but I am the youngest looking one out of the group). So I get those without being ID'd and then my wife goes to order and the bartender ID's her and I said I thought you had to be 21 to even be here and the bartender had a smart remark about losing her license, ok got it. Then my friend goes to order his drink (mind you he is Honduran and his English is fair) and she says his ID is expired and it 'sucks to be him, I'm going to get the guard' so she proceeds to get the guard to kick him out. So he goes to his car to get his passport which was active and she still refused him service. Eventually she got the owner/manager involved and he called the cops. This whole situation was mind blowing. They acted like we assaulted them or destroyed property when all we were trying to do was order drinks.... in their bar. Worst experience we have ever had. That bartender and owner are real pieces of work. Do not bring your Spanish friends here. read more

This place is a normal bar. It's always packed on weekends and gallery nights, but the owner/bartender is one of the nicest I've met.

I would give it a 10+ if I could because our bar tender Sam was so nice and on top of things, you never have to wait for a drink. But her bar back "David' was a complete A**hole and would not even give me a water as it was last call. Its not rocket science, it was just a cup of water! I kept asking for it saying I just wanted water, not anything with alcohol and he just kept shouting "LAST CALL" in my face.
