Found this by accident and delightfully surprised...good hamburger, fries and shake..price $..friendly staff

Gene's Stop and Go is our new favorite! The burgers, fries, and tots were so flavorful! I had the Barnyard burger with tots and my husband had the cheesburger with bacon and fries. We really enjoyed it and this will be our go to place! So many recommended the Grizzly Den in Hoquiam, that we tried it yesterday. We were so disappointed, they said it would take 35 minutes, our lunch took over an hour, was expensive, the burger was so drown in sauce it's all we could taste, and the large fries were over $5 and was half the size if the small order we got at Gene's today. I just had my first burger at Gene's Stop & Go and was impressed. One o'clock on a cold and sunny Saturday had a line of maybe six waiting for their order, milling about on the sidewalk or sitting at three outside picnic tables. The place has been dormant for a long while and the new owner has put a lot of work into the building. It looks spiff. I had a cheeseberder deluxe with bacon. Yummmy. The patty was huge. I'm so glad this opened up. One more reason to love little Montesano. And it's one block from the park. read more

Awesome burger, shake and fries - in the classic kind of way. No surprises, good service and great food to get your grub on with. I am not from Monte and don't live nearby, however about 20 years ago I passed this place up because I was in a hurry as I drove through town. I've regretted that choice since, but finally made up for it last night. It won't take me another 20 years to return! Stop by this place if you're in town, you won't regret it. read more

What happened to the size of your cones. Omg....so small. Regular was the size of a tiny. Very disappointing

Delicious burgers with all the fixins, made fresh after you order. Great fries and shakes. My favorite, the half-n-half ice cream cones (half chocolate/half vanilla)! Not a fast-food place so don't expect your meal to be done in two minutes, or even five. Love the renovations and old-fashioned look of the place, but everything inside and out is new and clean. The new owners have done a great job. They are Monte natives and first-time restaurant owners and have gotten the kinks out after the first couple of months. Gene's Stop & Go hasn't done much to make the communities safety a priority. During this Coronavirus situation, this restaurant has been running business as usual. I have witnessed multiple families sit at the seating that is provided by this business and the tables not being cleaned after the families leave. This is a safety hazard and this outbreak is not being taken seriously. This business needs to be taking more precautions in order to preserve the safety of this community. They could possibly limit that amount of people that can order or do all of their business over the phone. Whatever the solution is, Gene's Stop & Go is putting the communities safety at risk. read more

Decent food. Closes way to early. Most people don't get off work until 5pm. I believe they close at 6pm. Not near enough time to get off work and get there. I would consider extending your house to at least 8pm. I remember the old one being open until 9. When's the bee hive opening....? read more

We were looking forward to Gene's reopening, but were REALLY disappointed in the service and prices. The place wasn't all that busy but it still took 40 minutes to get 2 burgers and fries. We had also ordered a milkshake, but left without it 20 minutes after getting the burgers. Also, no ketchup, no fry sauce and no napkins handed out. Too bad because business success will be challenging to achieve with that level of poor service. read more

"stop, pay a small fortune, wait a while, go... But don't try to eat it on the go. Extra greasy & juicy burgers with no wrap on them make it impossible to avoid spilling all over yourself! The food was good and fresh. Nothing to write home about. read more

All I can say is food was good BUT!!! I ordered 3 Bacon cheeseburger meals with 3 Frys and 3 regular shakes and it was $45.00 yeh sorry but not worth it... And the 30 minute wait time added to the disappointment... :-( read more

Went camping at Lake Slyvia State Park last summer and wanted Ice cream, we found Gene's and fell in love. My kids compare all Ice cream experiences to that at Genes. We got great service and huge ice cream cones. We are headed to Long Beach WA this weekend and am stopping at Genes on our way down. We didn't taste the food so I cannot comment on that. read more

The shakes here are delicious but I don't think the food is that good. The burgers tend to be on the dry side and the wait is a little long for a drive in. The ordering process seems a tad tedious and the menu isn't in large enough print or prominently located. read more

Wish I could leave a better review but...the burger was good. Darn good. But not for the price. And the service...yikes. $8.95 for a bacon cheeseburger (without fries). And $1.99 for a (not so) large pop isn't quite right. After waiting for 30+ minutes for our food it came without the fries we ordered. I looked at my receipt and even though the kid read our order back to us and verified the fries - he didn't put them on our order. The pick up window didn't apologize or even looked surprised. They instead told us to go 'just' go around to the order window and wait in line - AGAIN. Nope, nope, nope. We just left. Hope they make the necessary adjustments to be successful. : ) read more

It's a little pricey, but our burgers, fries and shakes have been excellent every time. The employees are friendly too. You might think because you can stay in your car that this will be as fast as a standard fast food place. You would be wrong. It definitely takes longer, but is so worth the wait. If you're looking for cheap fast food, this is not your destination. If you want fresh, delicious food delivered to your car window while you wait, you will not be disappointed. As to the other reviewer's comment about the portions, I would liken the serving of fries I receive to a medium or large at a fast food place. The burgers are pretty large too. I rarely finish my meal, but it's not for lack of enjoyment. read more

They have a great veggie burger here, probably the best I've had anywhere. I don't know if they make it themselves but it seems like they might as it doesn't have that packaged/frozen feel to it. Also, their milkshakes are awesome! 4 stars because I agree that they're a little on the pricey side, but I think it's worth it. read more

i have been coming to genes since i was a little kid. i have watched it go from one owner to the next and this new owner is one of the cheapest people in montesano. i ordered 32 dollars worth of food and the cashier asked me if i wanted to add lettuce and tomato to my 11 dollar burger. come to find out they wanted to charge me extra for lettuce and tomatoes. i like the burgers here but if they keep trying to nickel and dime their customers i'll go somewhere else read more

I travelled all the way from Hyannis Massachusetts to try Gene's Stop & Go. For my money it was worth the trip! As far as the cost, I'll make no statement denigrating burgers that are cheaper, for the proprietor of the establishment serving them certainly knows what they're worth. read more

I love this place - great tasting, quality food with great service. My family has gone the gluten free way for the last few years, and Gene's accommodates us perfectly. The gluten free buns here are some of the best I've ever had. Definitely more expensive than your typical fast food joint, but I come here for good quality burgers that taste great and are of a caliber that I don't feel ashamed to feed to my family. This is not standard fast food fare. If you want McDonald's, go to McDonald's. Also, I've never had an issue with the amount of fries. I would challenge anyone to actually count their fries. I would estimate 30 per order, and they are rather large fries. Never as few as 10. Call ahead if you are worried about waiting too long. Excellent food isn't created in an instant! read more

Their burgers are messy and sloppy and amazing. SO WORTH the $7-$8 I paid for them. And their fries are delicious, too! Great serving sizes and great dipping sauce. SO MUCH YUM!!!! read more

Burger was a sloppy mess, tots were super dry, drink sizes were overpriced and undersized. Meat in the burger was dry. Not really anything good to say. Will not be patronizing Gene's anymore until they actually seem like they care about their food. read more

Burger patties were too small for the buns. We tried cutting the burgers in half to spilt and one half had just a sliver of patty on it for half the bun and each person ended up just eating buns at the end. The fries and ice cream were good, but for the amount of money that we paid for burgers I expect that there should be enough meat to fill the bun. read more
