I have been dealing with Ray maybe 15 years. He know's his craft, his staff is very attentive as well. The moment you walk in your greeted with a smile, offered snacks with refreshments and possibly a joke. He also cleans his bathroom 27 times!! lol... anyhow I am mainly writing this review to give him his well deserved flowers. He is truly a MASTER in his ARTISTRY and never disappoints! I went in with damaged bleached hair, and he is bringing my hair back to life! Just TERRIBLE! I honestly feel like I got ripped off. I went there on June 01, 2024 and showed Diana/Dee what I wanted, and she stated that it was going to be expensive $$972(around there), I told her "Well if that's what I'm getting let's go for it." BUT NEVER did she mention that it was going to be only for the FIRST SESSION! if she would have told me that I would of NEVER EVER go for it. When she was bleaching my hair (no test strand although I told her about my hair history) she said something about "but next time it will be less" but right away told me about the hair treatment that was going to be $180, so I assume that that's what she was talking about. She did two rounds of bleach, don't remember getting a toner and cut my hair because yes, my hair was DEAD, looked and felt like cotton. I walked in there with long, beautiful but frizzy hair and walked out with short, messed up layered orange hair and burn scalp. I had tons of scab withing the first few days. I went back there 2 weeks after for a hair treatment (botox) and that's when I asked her about that comment that she made, and she said that $972 was just for the FIRST SESSION and SECOND SESSION was going to be $600 !! and if she didn't achieve the color that I wanted, I needed to go for a THIRD SESSION and I was like 'WHAT"! when I SHOWED you the picture of what I wanted, you gave me a price, but NEVER did you mention about that being only for the first session. Her manager of course came and showed me a color globe, for which was irrelevant to me and was on her side. She ended up giving me their shampoo and conditioner, so I ended up paying $1,077, that was silly of me to buy their products when I could of easily purchase somewhere else for less. My sister- that been going there for ages couldn't believe that her stylist Dee did such a disaster to my hair. At the end I went to Sally's bought some bleach and toner spent about $75 and I went full mode on DIY and I did an amazing job on myself. I would never recommend this place to anyone. It's expensive and if one of them messes up, unfortunately you will lose, so arguing is just a waste of time. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. recently moved to the area & was looking for someone to replicate my color just like my previous colorist had done it. Each time I showed pics of my hair & show her the exact formula my previous colorist used, I was told by Dee that she would do things her way. Well, because she did not listen to my requests, my color was completely ruined & looked nothing like it did before I went to this salon !! She turned my hair ORANGE !! I spent 3 hours there & it was never back to the correct color. Also, I showed her a pic of how I wanted my hair cut & it looked nothing like the pic after she cut & styled it. Love it here. I discovered this place when I was a student at Rutgers a few years ago, and now that I live two hours away, I still go back when trying something new or making a big change and I feel like my hair really needs to be in the hands of someone I trust. After years of shitty, albeit "professional", dye-jobs, Ray was able to nurse my hair back to life and teach me how to really care for it to keep it healthy, and the products they use and have for sale are some of the best things that have ever happened to my hair. Seriously. I recently decided to lighten up to a bright, icy blonde, and Ray recommended Diana, their color expert. This girl really knows what she's doing, and I couldn't be happier with the result. She put so much care and attention to detail into my hair that it amazed me. I've been to salons before where the colorist will work on a system of trial and error, tell me it looks great while sopping wet, and practically push me out the door with brassy hair; you won't get that here. Diana understood the vision I had for my hair and was able to exceed my expectations and, even when my extraordinarily difficult natural color wouldn't cooperate and take to the color exactly how she had hoped, she persevered, got me the result I wanted, and I left a very happy blonde. I'm new to NJ and I needed to find a good salon to get a haircut and color. I found this salon after searching instagram, and after seeing examples of their work I booked an appointment. When I showed up I was greeted warmly and offered coffee, tea or water. I mentioned not having breakfast and the lady at the front desk brought a granola bar with my coffee. My stylist was Alexis, who is a junior stylist. We discussed my goals and she got started with the ombré and color retouch. The process took a pretty long time, but lightening hair is not something to be rushed; so I appreciated the care she took with my hair. The owner was really cool and talked to me throughout the morning and afternoon, I felt at ease and it helped the time pass a lot quicker. All in all I was very pleased with the end result. My hair is not broken and damaged and feels like I never had it bleached. The only heads up I would give is the parking situation which isn't the salon's fault, just FYI. there is metered street parking, but most of the spots are taken. I had to look for a garage, and one was closed. I was able to park a short walk away from the salon, but it was $12 after spending six hours in the salon..so be prepared. read more

I was excited to try Genesis Salon when it first reopened. As a first time client, I checked in and had a 15 min wait. The wait did not bother me, what bothered me the most was that I only went in for a shoulder length haircut and the hair stylist decided to style my hair when I clearly said no thanks. I told him that I was going for a run after my haircut and didn't want to curl it, yet he PROCEDED and told me that I will now look cute for my run. He continued to style anyways and ignored my decline for style. As I made my way to the counter, the total price for a haircut was 65!!! I could not believe it and felt like the styling added to the total. I was not impressed by a haircut to pay 65. It was upsetting to meet a stylist that did not respect my no when styling and continued to talk to the other customer next to me. First and last time, won't be coming back. Could get a haircut for less else where. read more

I went in with black hair looking to add some color and the results I got were beyond my expectation! I made an appointment for my mother for her hair and make-up this past Saturday, she was celebrating her 25th wedding anniversary. Her hair was scheduled for 10:30am and her make-up was scheduled for 11:30am. She arrived at 10:28am and was asked to wait a few minutes - her hair was already washed but they proceeded to wash it anyways. I called her at 11:30am and she said they hadn't yet gotten started on her hair - they'd only washed and dried it - DRIED not styled or blown out, just dried. I couldn't believe that an hour had gone by - she was scheduled for her make-up at 11:30am and her hair wasn't ready. She complained to her stylist who explained to my mom that "Saturdays are always busy." While that may very well be the case, appointments are made for the convenience of the customer and the service provider - it should not be beneficial to the service provider only. My mom asked them to do her make-up at least, since we needed her home by 1pm and at the rate they were going it was never going to happen. Well, when she was done, her stylist quoted her $75 but when she went to pay, the owner changed the price to $100 because they "washed and dried" her hair. While we were content with the make-up, the service was deplorable, even more so the owner's attitude - the issue was not paying, rather that they would dare charge for the sake of charging after they had failed to keep our scheduled appointments. If the salon is unable to keep appointments then they shouldn't take them in the first place and consider themselves a first come first served establishment, rather than falsely claim professionalism. read more
