I purchased two of the same plant for $35 each, planted them within feet of each other. One lived and the other died quickly despite the same location and care. When I took the dead plant back with the receipt and asked, not for a refund, but for an exchange, I was told that they don't guarantee products. I understand that to some extent but was asking for an exchange, not a refund, on an expensive product that should have been higher quality. I spend hundreds there each year but will be shifting my business elsewhere. Prices have risen and quality, obviously, has dropped. read more

I want to share the terrible customer service that we just received from Gensler Gardens on Orth Road. My husband bought me a Magnolia tree for my birthday 12 days ago. Although we watered it every day, the leaves quickly started turning brown. Then my husband got a bad case of gout, so he wasn't able to dig the hole. When we attempted to return it to the nursery today they were extremely rude to us. The manager was shouting at me and telling us that it was our fault and what I terrible customer I am. I told her that we only live a mile away but won't be returning to their business; she said, "Good! I don't want your business!" She finally relented and gave us a 50% refund, which is definitely not enough for a 12 day old plant. When I told her that I would be sharing this with my garden club, she said that she would share with all of her customers what a terrible customer I am!! Gardeners, beware. read more

Bought a $300 tree from them. half the root ball was missing. the tree was unhealthy to start with. I planted it and hope that it will so better. After 1 week, i called them demanding a full refund and they refused only offering 50% back. How is that fair to a customer? when they can probably resell the tree and make even more money. Very bad customer service and totally ripped me off. i would not recommend anyone to go there. All they care about is making money off of you. All other places guarantee your tree for a full refund, unfortunately not with this place, now I'm stuck with a unhealthy tree and have to hope that it will bounce back. Stay away!!! read more

Certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. Yes, They have beautiful plants, but the customer service is crap. The woman at the register could care less if your there or not. We on average purchase over $300.00 worth of plants yearly. Recently bought a spike along with many other annuals to make my boxes. Over estimated the size of the box and purchased the large red spike, which is huge and over flowing in the box. Called and asked if I could "exchange" for the next size down. Received a "no" it's been more than 24 hours since your purchase. I bought on Tuesday and it's Thursday, your right it has been more than 24 hours but I had my receipt. You just lost a yearly customer along with my other family members that frequent your business. Poor customer service. Perhaps someone can tell the cashier to crack a smile, when a customer approaches her. I'm assuming she is one of the owners. read more

Gensler Gardens is my "happy place." The hanging baskets and variety of annuals, perennials and herbs are all outstanding. The interior shop is darling, with cute lawn ornaments, and also lots of practical gardening hand tools. The staff are friendly and helpful. Most importantly, the plants I purchase there are always healthy and thrive. Simply put, I adore Gensler Gardens! read more

I have shopped at this garden center since it opened. I have loved shopping here for years. I have sent my friends to shop and brag about this beautiful garden center every spring. This year that changed for me. After spending over $400.00 the month of May for baskets, plants and miscellaneous garden supplies I went to exchange a basket to get a different color. I was planning on purchasing more plants I had my eye on. Much to my surprise, they refused to exchange my basket because I was just hours past the 24 hour return policy on my receipt. I said "I cannot believe you will not make an exception. This basket is in perfect condition and I only want a different color." I did not get off work in time the night before to make the 24 hour deadline. This was the morning after. I only wanted to exchange the basket and I was also planning on spending more money. The cashier told me they are very strict with their return policy so I asked to speak to the manager. He backed her up telling me they do not exchange plants after the 24 hour. I asked him to make an exception since I was so close to the 24 hour deadline and the plant was in perfect condition. I only wanted to exchange it for a different color. He proceeded to tell me," We are a small business, we are not Walmart" (Exactly why I shop there). He also said two me,"What is it YOU don't understand!" He was so rude to me, I also felt that him saying we are not Walmart referred to me as a lower level shopper....I was furious. I took my basket out to my car and I was still so upset by his unreasonable remarks, I went back into the store. I said, 'I am not done. I cannot believe you will not exchange this plant. I and others like me are the very reason your small business can operate. You have just lost a very good customer who has shopped with you since you opened. He said "Thats fine!" This is unbelievable to me. I worked in retail management for over 20 years and would have never made a decision like the one he made that day. I am done shopping with Gensler Gardens. Customer service here is weak to nonexistent. I overheard two employees tell a lady they did not know what fertilizer she should use on a plant. Neither offered to find someone who did know. It took three calls or visits for me to get a basket I wanted because I was told there weren't any. Their main nursery said there were and gave them a push to find the basket for me.. I only persisted because there were none left elsewhere in town. I can rarely find anyone to help me. I will not be returning. There are too many other excellent choices in town. read more

Some of the worst customer service we have ever experienced! We bought 7 yards of mulch from them this past Summer and it was overpriced, very poor quality and not at all as it was pictured on their website. When we called to ask for an exchange or some kind of a discount, they offered us 20% off of something on a future purchase, only after arguing with us about it. My husband specifically asked if we could use it at Christmas time, since we bought our tree from them last year. Fast forward a couple months and we go in to buy a Christmas tree. When asking about the 20% discount at the register, a couple guys were called up from the back who were supposedly 2 of the owners (Scott and ?). They made the clerk look up the mulch purchase (as if we were lying about that) but refused to give us the discount and then told my husband they "never would've said that". When my husband asked "are you calling me a liar" they said, "well, we never would've said that". One of the guys said "you should've come in to look at the mulch first". My husband explained we saw it on the website. He also told them that we live nearby and have shopped there often but will never be back and no, we don't want the tree, to which one guy replied "OK, go hang it back up, we'll sell it to someone else"! Unbelievable!! My husband is a very easy-going and happy person and I have rarely seen him as upset as he was after this interaction. We went down the road to Village Green where we got a beautiful tree and pleasant customer service, which is where we will be going from now on. read more
