My daughter's car got broken into and the rear back window needed to be repaired. I ordered the parts because my dad was going to replace the window when he became ill. I happened to be speaking to someone about it when they recommended this company. I was about to pay over $500 to get this done by Safelight repair but boy, am I glad I came here first! What can I say about the owner, Detroit? Very cool dude! After speaking with him he agreed to replace the window after the parts arrived and for about a 1/3 less than what I was going to have to pay the other guy! Unfortunately, the parts took FOREVER to come. She needed a new motor and regulator and rather than ship them together they did it independently. The first part took 8 days to arrive and the other 5 more days after that. My daughter was worried about someone breaking into her car again because the window would be exposed in her apartment's parking lot so Detroit allowed her to keep the car in his garage while we were waiting for the part. Talk about going beyond and above! In addition, while we were waiting for the parts he suggested another company from which to get the part. By the time I received the second part, the company he recommended has sent the part to home and the repair was done! (Not to mention that I paid less with his recommended company than I did with the original part company)! I can't thank him enough for how he handled my daughter's repair. I needed a windshield replacement on my Cadillac XT-4. The windshield was placed off centered to the right leaving a gap on the left side. The worse part is they damaged the paint at multiple places on the A pillar I guess while removing tape after they placed the windshield. About 40 scratches and dent mark. You can see the bare metal. Now I need to repair the whole pillar on the passenger side and replace that misplaced windshield. Can't trust that place at all. read more

I recently came here to get my windshield replaced. They did get the job done, and the price was decent--but it didn't come without issues. For one, they weren't able to recalibrate my car after replacing the windshield, and they didn't offer any kind of compensation or help for that. Now I have to go find another place just to get my car properly recalibrated, which is frustrating and inconvenient. On top of that, when I got my car back, there were tiny micro-shards of glass left all over the inside. That's a huge safety concern and definitely not okay in my book. This is one of those places where you get what you pay for. If you just need a basic windshield replacement and you're on a budget, it might work for you. Every so often you find someone in a business that does a little bit extra to help their customer. "Detroit" of Gentilly Auto Glass is such a person. When I first called Detroit gave us an estimate immediately and at a better price than other glass places we contacted. In fact, many of them did not even return my call. Not only did he install the window and back hatch in my son's Ford Escape beautifully, he really did us a solid. First of all he let us bring in the car that day instead of the next day as scheduled. He was able to get the glass he needed so we did not have to come back another day. This saved my son from having to come over from the Westbank a second time. When we came to pick up the car the work was done perfectly and professionally. He found that we needed some additional parts and he showed me what we needed and where to buy them. When we were ready to leave my son tried to back the car out and said that the transmission had gone out and he could not get the car out of reverse. Even though our car ended up completely blocking his driveway, Detroit was very kind and helpful. He assured us that it could stay there overnight and he would take care of the keys and hand them off to the tow truck driver. The next morning I was able to get a tow truck but the garage did not answer their phone for a couple of hours. Labor Day weekend is not the best time to have transmissions go out! The car and its keys were picked up and towed to Park Place Tire and Auto that day! A big shout-out to Don of Park Place who assured us that it was most likely not the transmission but the stick on the steering column. I am happy to say that when I called Gentilly Auto Glass I picked a winner. Thanks to them our story had a happy ending. Although they made mistake about my Tesla (they thought that they can replace it, didn't aware there is dash camera cable burry underneath), they are being honest and admit their mistake and paid for the damage. Finally it takes additional 1 month including one trip to safelite auto glass to repair the windshield glass and then to Tesla shop to replace all other damage including exchanging dash camera cable. Now it is fully functional. I also blamed myself of trying to cut the pay and time, instead paying more and spent more time. Finally the job is done and I am happy. read more

I dropped in one hot afternoon to get a rock crack fixed in my front windshield. They don't take reservations for this type of service, but they got to me relatively quickly. Got a chip on the way from Lafayette to Nola. Requested Yelp quote in route. Received quick response with estimate and was told to give 30 minutes heads up, and come on by. My husband took the car in. The service person said that he recommended nothing be done. Apparently the chip was superficial and he recommended leaving alone vs. filling. No charge. I was pleasantly surprised! It would have been easy enough to fill and collect money, but at least it seems to me, they did the RIGHT thing by not making worse. I had the worst experience with this business. I originally messaged them on Yelp to see if they do window tinting and I set up an appointment for the following day. When I dropped my car off at 9am they gave me no information on pricing and I was told that the tint man hadn't arrived yet. Around 12pm, I was confused why I hadn't heard anything so I called and was told the tint man still was not there and that if I wanted to I could just come pick up my car. So, I have to clock out of work and uber there. Right as I'm pulling up I get a call asking what type of tint I want. I was confused because I don't know anything specific about tints and also I was coming to pick my car up. The man on the phone claimed that they were already working on my car even though I never even decided on a tint. I asked if there was warranty on the tint and the response was "what you mean? We gon make sure you straight" So I had to uber back to work. A few hours later I get a call saying that the man did a bad job so they peeled the tint off and if I wanted I could bring my car back the following day and they would have a different person do it. ABSOLUTELY NOT. So once again I have to uber there and pick up my car, and of course when I get there I'm shown that they broke a part in the back of my car and told that they already ordered the replacement part that would come in the following day. So obviously I'm irritated at this point. I had a feeling that the part would indeed not come in the following day so I waited until Monday 03/13 to go back to the shop. Long story short, i just received the part today on 03/28. I wasted so much time taking trips there to be lied to over and over again about this part.
