I tried Gentle Dental because by previous dentist stopped having Saturday appointments. I was happy enough with the cleaning and exam I received, and the hygienist was friendly and professional. They did not try to push treatments on me, so I left happy. That is until I got a voicemail 10 days later to call them back. When I did, I got an AI bot that had trouble hearing my phone number to look up the account. When I finally talked to a real person, they said the insurance was still pending and to wait. Then why bother to call me until the claim is finalized. When I got home on the same day as the call, I had received a bill in the mail for $136 with some charges marked "insurance pending". They are offering a new patient deal of a $79 cleaning, but I guess if you have insurance that does not apply, because they billed my insurance $895. For the last 8 years my insurance has always completely covered 2 cleanings a year at the previous dentist. If the bill holds, I will ask them to withdraw the insurance claim and pay the $79 for the introductory offer. I am not the first person to complain about the billing. read more

I have been a patient at Gentle Dental Waltham since 2022 and I can confirm how great the dental hygienists are however, the front desk/reception staff (Karen- manager?) are rude, incompetent and miserable. I was charged $161.32 after insurance(???) for a filling that I had to go back to get refined the next day back in February 2026 by Dr. Bi. I have complained about the sensitivity post-procedure and how I felt that the filling was not properly sealed. 6 months later the same filling that Dr. Bi performed cracked... $161.32 down the drain, just went to a different dentist today that redid the filling for a fraction of what I initially paid for at Gentle Dental Waltham. Gentle Dental front desk/reception staff fail to acknowledge that they in fact overcharged me. I will be filing a dispute with my dental insurance with receipts to speak on how unethical this office is. read more

I should have read the other reviews before entering Gentle Dental of Waltham! I went to Gentle Dental for a basic annual cleaning. Their office manager looked up my insurance company and confirmed that it covers the service twice a year. This being my first cleaning of the year, she said it was fully covered. After the routine cleaning, they sent me a bill showing that they charged my insurance company $834.00. My insurance company paid them $167.00, which was way more than what they advertised for new patient on their front door - a $79.00 new patient cleaning special poster was plastered on their front door. Seven month later and many hours on the phone with their billing staff, who has repeatedly stated that there was a billing/coding error on their end, and yet their billing demands continue to arrive in the mail. I even tried to reach out to the Gentle Dental Director, Dr. Robert Girschek, but no response or reply from him. Stepping my foot inside the Gentle Dental Waltham facility was the biggest mistake of my life! This company has a history of over billing their patients. I went here for a second opinion regarding some older work from another dentist. They were perfectly nice, but the quote was about 50% higher than the original dentist was. I took the quote, went on my merry way and said thank you, "but I'll have to think about it" About a month later I started getting calls about an appointment I missed, and I was informed I owe them $100. I called and spoke with someone, they were rude and didn't seem to understand that I never booked a second appointment. So, I decided to drop by last week to discuss it. What a mistake that was. I walked in and immediately Laquisha started with a rude greeting. I was perfectly calm about the misunderstanding, and I tried to hand her the 5 bills they had sent me over the last 2 months. I placed them on the counter and immediately she said "I didn't say to put them there" and demanded that I take the reference bills off the counter, and started talking to a customer that was behind me, as if I didn't exist. It was unbelievably rude, I've never had a business treat me like this. Finally she finished with the customer behind me and asked for my info. I again tried to hand Shaniqua the bills, but would not look at them. Wanted my birthdate instead. Fine. She looked up the bill, and said I can't help you. The manager is not here. Now, I don't believe that she was not able to fix a $100 bill that was an obvious mistake on their part. I'm hoping that it was taken care of, but she refused to take a note, or pass on my information to the manager. Maybe Shanaynay was having a bad day, but I've never had such a poor experience. Excellent dentists and horrendous front desk and billing practices. Gave me a massive bill and I gave them my credit card to pay it. When I got home, I saw that I had been charged $542.00 in excess of the $6395.00 bill which they gave me. I have left multiple messages on their electronic answering device and no one has ever called me back. This is fraud. If I do not get satisfaction soon, they leave me no choice but to go to the Attorney General. read more

They suck. I shelled out thousands including for a partial bridge. This included a "throw away" that was like baby teeth which was supposed to be replaced with a regular partial (all inclusive) which I never got. A few years later I made the mistake of going there again which resulted in a referral to great Dental in Newton. Two extractions and follow ups later I was told that I was at zero balance after I paid ou another $1200. Gentle Dental (4months later) sent me another bill for$614.00 including a $223 Referral charge. They are a bunch of lying thieves at Gentle Dental in Waltham. read more

The new billing system is terrible. Do not pay bills you get in the mail until/unless you have verified with the office staff that you should pay. Their system sends out huge bills BEFORE your insurance has paid their portion. As far as the dental care goes, Dr. Girschek is the best of the best. My poor experience was with booking. I wanted to be helped with a sleep apnea dental appliance, but covered by insurance. I swear I made absolutely sure that my MEDICAL plan, vs. dental, covered the treatment. I called the office several times, and, of course, didn't take the person's name who did the vetting of the insurance for me. This is not an issue of eligibility or coverage - I took care of all that. Just a question of, does this dental provider take the medical insurance. Again, positive I made absolutely sure of it. Good thing I called back. In conversation I found out "we do no accept medical insurance"! Ha?? I spoke to the manager who was adamant. I think that the fact that I moved to FL 2 years ago and I still go to Gentle Dental in Waltham, MA absolutely speaks volumes for the professionalism and highly skilled dental work of Dr. Girschek and Jennie. Their dental work is unsurpassed. They are super clean, friendly, compassionate and gentle. When I emailed Dr. Girschek on a weekend to let him know that my tooth had broken, he emailed me several times to make sure that I would get an appointment that was convenient to my flight schedule and the forecast in MA. A while ago I had some painful molars extracted. I was told that i had several "bad" teeth and needed to have them pulled. They would gladly sell me a plate to cover the missing teeth. (The teeth they told me were bad felt just fine, but I trusted dentist Goldberg so I said OK) Then a couple of shady things happened. First, his assistant came in with a clipboard for me to sign. I was still groggy from the novacaine, but I could see that it was an "aggrement to pay" with the full cost of the plate listed. I asked her about my insurance and her reply was "Oh, you have insurance? We didn't know." Big red flag there - they knew before I walked in. Its their job to know. Trying to get patients to sign for full payment while still groggy is a noted scam played by dishonest dentists. Then as I was leaving, the young fellow at the desk requested my credit card. Like a fool, I handed it to him without asking for a written bill. He added an extra $50 charge. I asked him what that was for and he replied "its a 'no show' charge." But I showed - I'm right here! I was 15 minutes late, but I called ahead. When I have waited for 20 minutes to see someone, you did not give me $50, did you? During our discussion, dentist Goldberg came rushing out to the front desk and pretended to fiddle with a computer, but it was obvious he was making sure I received no refund for the 'no show' charge. The kid said he was not authorized to give a refund! So he can charge phony charges, but only someone who is not there can give a refund. See the trick? So these assistants are being taught to further the scams. If you ever have to go to this place, first DO NOT sign anything while groggy, and second, always request a written bill to review BEFORE handing over your credit card. read more

I had a crown done some 6 months ago and then reshaped some 3 months ago which only made it more uncomfortable. The dentist chose to replace my natural tooth with a much larger crown! Why, I am not sure. Now I am faced with replacing it without insurance coverage. I am only speaking for one dentist. I have read the director is very good with crowns. Moved to Waltham recently and I was looking for a new dentist. Gentle Dental Waltham is a block away from my house so I decided to give it a try. Today I came back for the second appointment to do my cleaning. And I can say I haven't done a cleaning so well done in ages! Kupra took care of me, and she was so attentive and sweet. She was not in a rush like the other dental hygienists seems to always be. I have a lot of sensitivity, so she numbed my gum, and all the time she was making sure I was not in pain. I went to this dentists office for over 2 years - as I am the type of patient who hates to switch doctors unless absolutely necessary. First, I want to be clear that I have no issues with the medical staff here, although they seem to have pretty frequent turnover (my original dentist and two hygienists had all left). My last dental hygienist there (I think her name was Kristina - not 100% sure) was always professional and warm. However, the office manager (her name is Karen) and billing staff was a HUGE NIGHTMARE. They didn't have accurate estimates of co-pays, did not understand the EOB from Insurance companies, and have overcharged me multiple times. I didn't notice at first and paid any bill they sent me immediately, until they started sending me bills for routine cleaning and exams, which I know clearly was covered in full by my insurance. When I called the office, the office manager Karen was always rude and impatient and was unwilling to look into the matter. She then would tell me that she would call me back but never did. I had to spent HOURS (5-6 times!!!) calling the office as well as my insurance company as Karen kept saying my claims were denied while my insurance company had approved the claims and made payments to them a long time ago... As Karen continued to be unhelpful, I was so frustrated and finally called Gentle Dental's corporate office and spoke with their regional manager Robin. She was responsive at first and did resolve the additional billing that the office sent me. However, I was never able to get the money that I overpaid previously back - Robin said she thought they were being underpaid by the Insurance company and will get back to me after she figures it out, but... it's been over 6 months now and she never followed back up! I don't think I ever give 1 star review to businesses.. but after my year long TERRIBLE TERRIBLE experience, I just want to make sure I share this so that anyone who doesn't want to overpay or spend hours of your life dealing with dental billings (I'm an expert now...sadly) stays away from this office! read more

Updated 7/10 - so I have my wisdom teeth extracted today. The surgeon is really efficient and it is finished within 30 min. This location is at Main street, which has some parking options. Generally I dont think its hard to find a parking here. About the dentist - they are definitely professional, and provide a great services to patients. Depend on your insurance coverage, your final out of pocket expenses may vary, but generally speaking I think their charges are reasonable, for example if you have a decent dental insurance your annual exam and clean should be free of additional charge, and even if you dont have an insurance they do provide a new patient offer that includes x ray, exam, cleaning for $57, which is a good deal IMO. They have an oral surgeon coming over on every other Monday. I would say his communication is very efficient and he goes straight to the point and wont waste your time. I need to have 3 wisdom teeth extracted and he figured out a treatment plan quickly. The total estimated cost for removing 3 wisdom teeth will be around $1,700 (full anesthesia), which isnt high compared to what other practitioners charge, but remember depend on your insurance your out of pocket cost can vary. Mine is Delta Dental PPO (yes they do take delta dental) and my employer has a special agreement with Delta so it will cover 100% after $50 deductible. The only issue is that the surgeon is almost fully booked for most of his time and he comes to this location only once per two weeks, and they do not have another surgeon. I wish I could do the extraction right away, but need to accommodate his schedule. I do not have the extraction done yet, but I will update my review after. read more

Todays visit was for a cleaning and new to me hygienist MJ is smart, kind, and informative. I have a lot of dental anxiety and it was nowhere to be found today. I'm so impressed. Great Dentists very personable - explains things really well - Super at pain management... But this office should NOT come up under a search for an "affordable" dentist. I was told something they were recommending was about $3K for top and another $3K for bottom. By the time the admin. came in with a breakdown of costs - the price jumped to over $9K each!!!! They don't do payment plans - they point you to Care Credit... I'm still waiting to see how the price got so inflated in 5 minutes..... The staff here are awesome. I called yesterday to see if they could see me on an emergency basis. A half hour later I was filling out paperwork and getting ready to see Dr. Girschek. Everyone was very sweet. I returned today to see Dr. Goldberg (periodontist) and, again everyone was very nice. When Dr. Girschek saw me walk by his office he came out to speak to me again about my treatment. I have never experienced so much professionalism and courtesy in a doctor office before. I do not have dental insurance and the price for the emergency visit was very reasonable. Thank you to the team there. Perhaps I will actually see the dentist on a regular basis now that I have found one I like. Then no more emergencies! read more

I'd been having immense tooth pains for a while now and I really needed to get the tooth, my wisdom tooth, pulled. I called a few places and everyone was closed on Saturday so I called Gentle Dental and they got me in within half an hour. The paperwork to fill out is easy to read, and pretty brief. I got in right away and within minutes they were suiting up to work on me, and yanked that tooth right out. As I was checking out I started feeling woozy and ended up passing out. This is a pretty common reaction and was partially my fault since I hadn't eaten or drank anything that morning. The staff helped me to a chair and one of them sat by me the whole time until I was back to normal. They called a cab and kept checking up on me while I waited for the cab. Great people, Great Place. As somebody with chronic dental problems, I'm never excited about going to the dentist. I had to come here to have a broken tooth fixed up, and I was not happy about it. But, everything really did go better than expected. They were very nice, explained everything to me, and really did listen to my concerns. Dean Chang is currently a per deim dentist as Waltham Gentle Dental. I just had a a cavity filled by Dr. Chang. I find him to be a great combination of warm, humorous, very smart and laid-back. One of the worst service provider. The staff managers are extremely rude, impolite and abusive. They charged me to pay more than they are supposed to receive. Even after my insurance have send them the necessary check, they charge us for more money. They are fraud agencies who wish to extract money from the patients. DO NOT visit their office. I've been to MANY Gentle Dental locations and I have to say this is by far the best experience I've ever received. Meghan at the front desk is by far the best person in the whole operation. I run late almost every time but she makes me feel as if I'm early every time. My orthodontist is hard on me about taking care of my teeth but I know whenever he says something he cares about me getting my teeth together and can honestly say he's the best dentist/ortho I've has in years. She over-charges, she refused to talk to my insurance company and denied to be within-network (insurance company confirmed multiple times and wanted to talk to her but she refused to speak to the insurance company), and instead insisted on charging an out-of-network fee. Also, they charge you before the procedure, which, according to my insurance company, is very rare. Rude! Refuse to communicate with the patient. Avoid her if you can. read more

Having moved here from the Midwest where our dentists office was beyond helpful, this office leaves much to be desired. The front desk was ok, but as I sat and waited for my appointment for a long time, they did not acknowledge me or let me know how much longer it might take. Another complaint is that every other dentist I have ever been to the cleaning and exam take place within the same visit. Here I had a cleaning, the dental hygienist (who was not at all gentle) said her opinion about some things in my mouth but then when I was done I had to go back to the waiting room to wait yet again to have an exam and x-rays. Then I could tell that there had been zero communication between the hygienist and the dentist. If you do go - I would recommend asking for another hygienist other than Janet - I have never had a cleaning hurt before this one - my husband said the same thing - he refuses to go back. read more

So, I need a root canal done, and they quoted me nearly $4,000.00, which I thought was a lot. Found out from a former employee of them, that if I had insurance the cost to the insurer and my copay would be about 1/2 that amount! Not being very fair to us poor people who do not have insurance!
