On Wednesday, February 28, 2026, two movers and a truck from Gentle Hands Moving Company of Redwood Valley, CA (owner Al) came right on time! I chose them because of their proximity to my home in Ukiah. Besides the usual chairs, tables, lamps, bed, I had a priceless painting from a renowned Chinese painter, an irreplaceable solid oak Mission style rocking chair, a huge one piece maple china cabinet and our heirloom family small rocking chair. Each was enormously wrapped and protected and YES Gentle Hands moved these without any damage of any kind! Unpacking the multiple boxes of books, household items, clothes, and memorabilia, I continued to be amazed that nothing was broken or torn! I cannot praise Al and his employees enough for their accurate estimate, fair moving price, and efficient delivery of all my earthly possessions safely and promptly. read more

The moving team was great. I wasn't made aware of paying for the hour and half transportation to arrive. Extra $300 for their commute.

Take note of fuel and driving fees from Gentle Hands Moving prior to booking! Online they indicate they are in Mendocino, but their office address is in Redwood Valley, CA which is the east of highway 101, nowhere near the coastal town of Mendocino, CA. They also reference a Ukiah address, also very far from the coast. I thought I was using local movers, but I paid for a total of 6 hours of labor, even though 4 hours of that total was all driving time for each of them to and from my job! Also, they added a flat rate fuel rate of $150 even though they all came in a single pickup truck and no moving truck was required, since I was just relocating items from inside home into an on-premise container to make room for some remodeling. Total was surprisingly expensive at almost $1500 for only 2 hours of onsite work. I recommend local Fort Bragg movers called Alder Moving Services, who only charge driving time from their Fort Bragg office . They did my follow-up move of furniture back into the home for less than HALF the amount Gentle Hands charged me previously. read more

We requested 2 men to help pack & load our vehicle. They worked hard and fast, loading up numerous large pieces of furniture. They did great job of carefully & efficiently fitting all of it into our vehicle. Pleased with their work, though a bit shocked at $125/hour price, but it appears this is industry standard. And, beware, they do 'round-up' to the next hour. We did feel very disappointed that we were charged $45 for "fuel & mileage" for their truck that we did not request and did not use. read more

Al and Shane are good guys and if you want inexpensive but good they are your guys. Just note they do not offer extra insurance so get your own. My grandfathers barber chair was destroyed and we only got $200 for this irreplaceable piece worth $3000 but more in my heart. We aren't sure how it happened and nothing else was damaged. Moving to Hawaii from Fort Bragg I had a big dilemma as to what to take. After collecting apple, orange and assorted fruit boxes from Safeway I started packing. I called Gentle Hands and someone came out to survey my lot to get an idea as to what would be involved. The owner called shortly thereafter with a very reasonable estimate. A few days prior to my move we loaded my assortment of boxes, bags, rugs.. into the back of his truck. He took my stuff to Oakland for shipment. I was delighted on July 4th with the arrival of my treasures! Gentle Hands had packed my boxes on two pallets,consolidating some of my smaller loose stuff into larger boxes and then shrink wrapping everything into a solid unit. AL and his team handled the first phase of our move from Mendocino County to ABF trucking in Oakland for a move ultimately to Arkansas. They packed and wrapped our furniture (including a grand piano) so well that the movers who unpacked in Arkansas were very complimentary. It was a large move and nothing was damaged except something I packed. The entire team at Gentle Hands was experienced and not temporary workers on college break, as we had in Arkansas. I had to get a 1908 antique piano from Willits, Ca to Stockton, Ca. Being a bit older than the last time we moved it and missing most of our crew, I contacted Gentle Hands. They picked up the piano on time and made the delivery on time as promised. Priced right considering I didn't have to stress the trip or the handling of the piano. Excellent experience on a move from Anderson Valley to San Luis Obispo County. Owner did a site visit and gave a fixed price, no mark-ups. They checked in with us prior to day of move to ask if we needed wardrobes and boxes. Day of move the movers were on time, polite and good natured. Packed everything immaculately, no breakage. This was a two day move so movers called with the location they stopped at and gave us an ETA for next day delivery. Delivery day they were on time as well. Called on short notice to move furniture between two homes in Ukiah due to death in the family and was easily accommodated. I was initially taken aback on the phone by a time frame I knew would be way too long (based on my list of items, was told 4 hours, while I knew it could be done in 2 to 2.5 max). But once the two man crew arrived, it was absolutely smooth sailing. A variety of objects, including some very good solid wood furniture, were handled with ease, confidence and efficiency, and, yep, the three trips were accomplished in two hours. Very very very slow movers, and I found damage at the end of my trip. I think that they don't understand what things can hold weight and what can't. Maybe ok for in-town move, but ugh, what should have been 2-3 hours turned into 6, and was horribly expensive for such molasses-slow work. read more

I used Gentle Hands to do a local move in July, 2010. I moved from one two bedroom house to another one in Fort Bragg. Being a short distance away, I was able to move a lot of the little stuff including most of the kitchen, art work, books and computers. Gentle Hands moved the furniture and other big items. The estimate they gave me was five hours. The move was done in about four. The two fellows who did the move were courteous and professional, being careful with everything. We had these guys move a house and two very full storage units -- they were very fast -- never took a break -- really hard working guys. Were extremely careful with our delicate/fragile items -- they padded everything -- all arrived in great shape, nothing broken. Nice guys, good crew. Honestly don't know what more you could ask for.
