The artists are well rounded. There are many chairs and the available chairs are limited due to the results of their quality work. They accept walk-ins. However, it would behoove you to consider finding one of the artists you are comfortable working with and sticking to a schedule. I have had many of the artists perform their works on my styling. Not a single one has a bad technique, nor, do they ever have any issues with requests. The artists are well versed and hand picked. So, there is nothing to complain about here. I have a preference for 1 individual because he has never had a bad hair day. The prices reflect the quality of the product. This is not some student credit buildup. This is professional, no discrimination, all shapes and sizes are welcome here. Calm ahead and make an appointment with your favorite artist. That's my suggestion. The environment is chill. There is plenty of parking, even during a busy day. If you don't set an appointment, you may find yourself waiting a few minutes in the greeting area. But, not to worry as there are many artists working hard to get to your requests. This is a child friendly environment and most clients that I have seen coming in with the kiddos are very considerate about the effort to keep their kids in a Calm, Cool, and Collected mindset. I've never been to a barber shop who refused a clean up or neck trim. Walked in and requested a neck trim and the response was, verbatim, "hey did you say you wanted a neck trim?" My response, " yes, please." He replied "haha, yea we don't do neck trims, only full hair cuts. Sorry" I guess they don't like easy money. No problem, I went across the street to Vivian at Supercuts. She kindly sat me down and made a 20$ tip for literally 60 seconds of her time. Thanks Vivian. This barber shop is in a good area and had a few barbers working which is nice, because we did not have to wait long to be seen. They were keeping us updated on the wait which was nice to let us know. They also had a fridge in their waiting area stocked with water and other drinks that were complimentary. The guys that cut my sons hair did a really great job he did exactly what my son asked, and that meant a lot to us. He has been wanting to change his haircut , but when he would explain it to me I was not too sure what he wanted. This barber got it perfectly!! Super impressed and that's really what matters is that they get it right :) My sons favorite part that he said was they gave him a neck and head massage! I can only imagine how amazing that felt. The prices are a little higher than what I'm used to but the shop it myself reflects that, the area itself, their customer service is great, and the fridge they had was an extra perk that I did not mind paying an extra $10 for it. read more

Horrible experience. Clippers are old and too sharp for skin and hair (owner of personal clippers). Did not follow directions even with picture presented. Cut is uneven, no actual hair lining present, and caused skin irritation. Would not recommend Edward. read more

They do a great job, but I'm going to request they don't put me with the female barber in the future. They each have their own little TV and I was subjected to a nauseating chick flick the entire time instead of what every other barber was playing, sports and history channel stuff. Just walked into the shop since my normal barber was booked and I needed a last minute haircut. I'm always nervous to get cut by a barber for the first time but wow did Alvaro (might spell it wrong) exceed my expectations! He took his time with my very specific haircut as well as beard trim. Standard barbershop, nothing to write home about. Customer service is terrible though. Not sure if it's owner favoritism or something else but the queue doesn't matter there. The ONLY place I will get my haircut. First, I have been going here every 2-3 weeks for 4 years and have never seen a "list" (as one reviewer said there was). It's a place for gentlemen (hence, the name), and since I've been going there, it has been on each other's word who is next in line. Me, personally, I wait for my favorite barber if I can, but I'm not rude and will take the next barber if no one is waiting. OK, to the barbershop: This is where a man goes to get his haircut. Nice comfy seats, private flat screen at each station, barbers in uniform, straight razor with hot cream finishes. Sure, you may have to wait 30-60 minutes, but there are complimentary soft drinks, water and coffee. They are always friendly and they are good to their regulars. I have waited so long to post my review because it's been my little secret and I only tell my buddies that I like to go there (and they are all hooked, too). But, after seeing negative reviews, I couldn't bite my tongue anymore. You're going to spend more money than at a Super-Cuts, but you will get the clean, fresh satisfaction of a professional haircut. I don't understand why it has to be a gamble every-time I get a haircut. I had long hair and asked for 1/3 to 1/2 be taken off. I basically have a buzz-cut right now with some stupid floof on top. After moving from Seattle and leaving behind my barber, I was a bit skeptical about who could perform a perfect fade with a high and tight. I have a 3 week policy. I brought my 3 yr old in for a haircut. He has fabulous curly hair. I had never taken him to a non-kids oriented establishment before. However, they gave him a sucker and had A TV at the station and put on Pinocchio and he was good to go! I told the gentleman doing his hair that I loved his curls and didn't want it too short, just "shaped" and he did a great job. I heard afterwards from a friend that barbershops don't normally use scissors. However at Gentleman Joe's they DID use scissors which is great because clippers would NOT result in a good haircut for his fabulous hair. Can you tell I love my son's hair?? We will be back! I don't like getting my hair cut. I don't like just sitting there while someone fidgets around my head. I have to fight the urge to look at my watch every few minutes when I'm in the chair. On the other hand, my curly hair goes crazy when it gets too long. Life is about tradeoffs. The other part about haircuts I don't like is the upselling. I know it's part of their job. I accept their capitalist drive to maximize profits. But no matter how I answer, "so what kind of shampoo do you use?" they look at me like I've said "bat urine". (For the record: Pantene shampoo and conditioner. See? Not bat urine.) Gentleman Joe's doesn't do that. They don't seem to sell any haircare products, unless you count combs. So really they don't care how I take care of my hair. They care about making it shorter and better-looking. And they do that very well. I always get compliments on my haircuts. Maybe that's just because I no longer look like the Unabomber, but I'm still giving the guys at Gentleman Joe's the credit. After the haircut you get a scalp-and-shoulder rub with one of those vibrating-hand things. It's not a massage, but it's a nice touch. I just stopped into Gentleman Joe's to get my sideburns and neck trimmed. Immediately after coming in, one of the barbers greeted me and offered me a selection of drinks. There was only a couple minute wait to get in. They have a couple different sitting areas, and LOADS of TVs. Every barbers chair has a TV, and there are several big screens throughout. Each barber can change the channel as well. Napoleon helped me out. He had to move the barber chair out-of-the-way so I could fit my wheelchair in, which proved a little bit difficult. This things are ridiculously happy! I was honestly just expecting a couple minutes worth of Labor, just a few cuts here and there and I was done... However, it turned out to be 10 to 20 minutes worth of work to get me cleaned up. This man really shows passion in his work. He used multiple sets of clippers, and finished off with a straight razor and hot shaving cream. I've had a LOT of trouble in the past with barbers using straight razors. I've only been there once or twice, but the big problem is razor burn. Almost every time a barbers used one I end up in pain while they're doing it, and stuck with red razor burn after they do it. Not today! Not only did it feel nice and smooth while he was doing it, several hours after the fact I still feel great! The trim cost $10. I believe the full haircut runs $21. It's definitely worth it, and I plan on coming back. I will definitely recommend this place to friends in the area. read more

I've been in 3 times total. My first visit was nothing special as I was already used to the traditional barbershop service. My first visit an older gentleman cut my hair and it was everything I asked. The second visit was made because I called my regular shop for an appointment and they kind of blew me off. Since I usually get haircuts on my lunch break, I quickly called Gentleman Joe's and asked if they had availability. I think they tell everyone "yes" but this time I am glad they fit me in. When I first got there I had to wait about 5-10 minutes until someone was available. The shop is clean, they have multiple drinks available like coffee and soda, and most of the employees are friendly. One guy in particular stood out. His name is Israel. He came and greeted me and said he was ready. I walked over and sat in his comfortable chair. I told him I wanted a high fade, 0 on the side and 4 on top. Man he was the best! Most barbers use multiple clips to "fade" my hair. Israel used nothing but his clippers and a comb. Also, I typically have to point out certain areas I don't like. But with this guy, I was speechless and thankful for a job well done. Today I needed another trim. I called right before taking my lunch and asked if he was available in 10-15 minutes and he said come on down. My husband has been getting his hair cut at Gentlmen Joe's in Ahwatukee off and on for about two years. Today he went in to get his hair cut with Edward, I just can't believe how BAD that hair cut was. Our dog hair cut look better than my husband. My husband never has much taken off when he does get a hair cut. This time Edward pretty much shaved his head. I don't understand how a person (Edward) who is supposed to know what he is doing could have even done something like that. Good barbers and cool people working but haircuts are horrible and they cannot listen to the request of there customers. I said i wanted 1/2 an inch off the top knowing they normally cut more off than I normally like but i left with them cutting about 3 to 4 inches. That is crazy. Before going my hair could reach my nose and I left with it not even being able to touch my eyebrows. And I asked for 1/2 off the top.
