It's called Gents Barbershop but I was the only gentleman in the place as it's just Hispanic females cutting hair at a barbershop? If that is your vibe then this your place. They also charge you to you use your card so that's another 1.50 charge that most businesses don't pass that charge to customers but I am glad I tried it once but will never go back and will tell anyone to steer clear as there is a lot of better barbershops in the area and are cheaper. read more

I needed an emergency cut for a wedding since my wife was staring at a botched hack job of a haircut at a posh new men's barber shop in Las Vegas. Five and a half hours of her complaining folks. So as we rolled into Avondale to gas up, my wife found a place down the street. This is where my $20 tip from the other place should have gone. Rafael was my barber and he cut me up old school style. We call it bald fade in Chicago - locally it's called a skin fade. This, a hot towel treatment along with lively conversation made it a great place. My mom spoke to a Hispanic lady around 9am yesterday to set up an appointment for my husband at 4pm, she confirmed the appointment. My husband gets there at 3:40, no one acknowledged him, he's black. Another man walks in and asks how long the wait is, they say 40 minutes, as soon as someone finishes a haircut they take that man and continue to IGNORE my husband. He waited until 4:05 no one acknowledged him so he left. I called them around 5pm & spoke to the lady, she told me "we don't really do appointments to avoid issues like this" & that she "doesn't remember my husband walking in that's probably because everyone was too busy ignoring him. How are you gonna confirm an appointment with someone, ignore them then lie & say you don't take appointments or remember seeing the person walk in. I don't appreciate being lied to & my time or my husband's time being wasted. I saw a couple reviews talking about how people were being ignored, they were the only white person there & weren't acknowledged or they were made to feel uncomfortable which makes me believe my husband was ignored because he's black. I never write reviews like this but the lady offered no solutions and flat out lied to me & wasted our time. If you have an appointment you really don't & they'll take someone else before you. Came here on a Sunday at 10:45 AM, because their posted hours said they were open from 10-3, and that walk-ins are welcome. The door was locked, and there was another potential customer waiting out front, who told me he had been waiting since 10:00. I called their business number; no answer, and an answering machine did not pick up. I waited 20 minutes more, and then chose to leave. The other customer was waiting there when I left. I've been getting my beard trimmed and lined up by Johnathan every couple weeks for the past couple years. He does a great job every time. I've never been dissatisfied after stepping out of Gent's. As soon as I walk out, the compliments start. A lot of people ask me where I got my beard done and that they like it. They all do really god work. Alma is very nice lady since the day I met her a few years ago. Can go on and on about this place and the barbers there. Check them ou Let John get you right! You won't regret it. On a separate occasion I brought one of my developmentally delayed client from the group home I work at. My client is on the more severe side and has a lot of trouble staying focused and still. Kevin offered to cut his hair and was great with him. He talked to him during the whole cut and my client stayed calm and allowed him to do his work. I was shocked to see how well Kevin handled my client during the whole process. It showed not only that Kevin is a good barber but that he's a good human being. I have been going to Gent's Barber Shop for several months now and normally have experienced positive customer service. In my last 2 visits I have noticed a decline in customer service and today completely put me off from ever returning. I arrived and signed in like normal and noted that there were only 2 other gentleman on the list ahead of me. After 10 minutes passed by another gentleman came in and sat down ( didn't sign in), it was obvious that he was friends with the owner as she told him that they had a lot of catching up to do. When it came time for me to sit in the chair and get my hair cut the owner told me that her friend was next, I pointed out to her that I was next and had been patiently waiting. When I stated that I came in before her friend she said that he was in earlier and decided to leave and come back. I again pointed out that he had both arrived after me and he did not sign in. We reached an impasse and I decided to leave and take my business elsewhere. If your looking for customer service this is not the business to give your hard earned money to. read more

Then we requested a certain person and as they all checked people out, again, no one acknowledged I was next, to tell me it will be a few minutes because you requested a certain person. Which would be understanding. The person I think we requested was the rudest. I will leave out other details but we did leave. We went to a place when we walked in 2-3 people greeted us and made us feel very welcome. So tonight was my husband's third visit to this barber. This time it was dirty and the employees talked over and around customers. Also, my husband's haircut took a fraction of the time it did on the other visits. And his beard trim was lazy - there are many stray, long hairs. Lastly, this was the first time my husband was offered a frequent customer card. He mentioned that this was his third visit and the gentleman helping him ignored this completely. He rang this customer up, customer left, he started playing with the register tape, like I was not even there. He never greeted me, I asked him if Alma was working. he replied no, and walked off. My son and went to get haircuts and they completely ruined my beard&mustache and my sons hair. the barber didn't seem like he new what he was doing. He botched my mustache that I wanted to grow out, he randomly took clippers and buzzed at it with no technique. He didn't bother shaping it or trim it with precision. My sons hair looked fine at first only to find out that the barber did some weird comb over that left one side uneven. There's no personal touch here and they just wanna get you in and out. I went to another barber that day and they salvaged my beard and fixed my sons hair. They were shocked at how bad our haircuts and beard were done.
