With Denver enjoying a pretty decent heat wave, the BF suggested a trip up to Breckenridge, between the 30 degree drop in temperature and a great road trip, we couldn't resist. To our surprise there was an Art Festival in Breckenridge this weekend. It's a bit different then the one in Cherry Creek. A lot less crowded and I would say and more modern art if you ask me. Not as big as Cherry Creek, in my opinion I think the Breckenridge Art Festival is the perfect size. My Mom even found some art she decided to buy for her house back home. I fell in love with some great photography there as well and would love to buy some in the coming years for my house. With the weather being cooler and the crowds being easier to migrate through, the Breckenridge Art Festival is the better choice in CO. And if you don't find any art, there are a million cute boutiques to shop at as well.

It's grown quite a bit in the last few years and seems to attract artists that don't necessarily frequent the other festivals. Even if something isn't my taste, most of the art here is at least interesting to look at. The past couple of years, I've found items to take home. This year I bought a couple of pottery pieces at fantastic prices (I got a collector discount since I've purchased from that artist a few times before) and I spent out of my comfort zone to get an amazing mixed media piece that I absolutely fell in love with. If you like art and you like escaping to the mountains during the hot summer, I'd highly recommend this festival. Look for it on a weekend around July 4th each year.

The venue was beautiful. The weather was great (although last year it apparently rained/snowed - yikes that would be very unpleasant!). The crowds were manageable. The food was good. There was plenty of seating and we enjoyed the entertainment. We're not wine drinkers but our friends really enjoyed the wines that were offered.

We were excited about the free jazz show in Vail Village on Sunday 6/25/17. This was the first…read moreshow of the summer and we were lucky enough to stumble upon it. It happened between 12-3pm under a tent in front of the Solaris. First heard about it in the Vail Daily website that shares daily events in town. The jazz show was in the midst of the Vail Farmers' Market so it was a nice addition while the Farmers' Market was going on. The tent was small but it was still awesome jazz music and it was FREE!!! So you can't really beat that. If you like jazz, come check this out. There are only a few free shows left. Here is some more information from their website: "Vail Jazz @ The Market. Follow your ears to more free live music every Sunday beginning June 25 at the Vail Farmers Market with a rotating lineup of acclaimed regional acts at Vail Jazz @ The Market from 12 to 3 p.m. in the Solaris tent. The tickets were $27.50, which isn't bad, but to get there and find out that they couldn't even get New Belgium, not to mention Boulevard Brewing (who was there last year!) wasn't there either!!!! I had a good time, because there was a little group of us that stayed in Breck, then boarded the next day, but I was definitely disappointed by this years festival. I will definitely have to reconsider going back next year.

Albannach was also present, as was the Welsh Baker in a separate tent set up for enjoying a Scotch egg and scones.

This year's Evergreen Chile Festival was cool and hot. Not a lot of chile heat but quite a bit of sun and there was some cool music and all the contestants were cool. Now the chili? Of the 42 samples (out of the 132 entries!) I tried (I couldn't eat one more because I was stuffed!. Woulda killed me.) Actually call me prejudiced but after I made it down the first of two aisles of contestants, I started looking for Mexicans or Latinos manning the stoves (I think there might have been 2 or 3). I needed a real chile verde fix! Of all those samples, I think maybe 3 or 4 were bowl worthy. The rest uhhhh were not my cup o' chile. Still fun though! And I'm a fan of the event.

Staying on site is convenient but parking is scarce. I definitely recommend the Aspen shuttle which leaves every 10-15 minutes for free! Popular stops near the festival site include Base Village and Rodeo Lot. 4 stars because maps provided are difficult to read.
