Cute shop in downtown Plymouth. We took my little cousin in to look for a soccer ball. Unfortunately they didn't have them but they did have a few other balls so we picked one of those up for her. The fact that they didn't have a soccer ball is no knock on them, though, because they're packed with tons of other toys--mostly educational and creative--for kids to enjoy. Loads of stuffed animals, a whole wall of board games, and a TON of my little cuz's favorite Calico Critters. They have little play stations set up throughout the store and we had a hard time pulling her away from the CC house, which she actually has at home! Lots of old fashioned toys, a few I even recognized from my youth! As a kid my favorite toys and games were educational ones (a nerd since day one) and I would have been THRILLED to come into a store like this. Loads of sets available to help sharpen your kid's mind while having fun. And the staff here is very friendly. Not pushy but helpful nonetheless and they allowed us to browse and play without staring us down. We had a hard time pulling my cousin out of here, but I'm not going to lie. I didn't mind!

What a great spot! There were many people there to help us and they were not over-bearing, of which pushy salespeople is a huge pet peeve of mine. They had great old school new toys (Shrinkidinks, Colorforms,etc...) from when I was young, new artistic toys for making/creating things, discovery toys for the young scientists/Magicians, and learning games/toys. They graciously searched for a product they did not have on their shelves and got it from their off site storage and brought it to the store for us. They then wrapped all we bought for free, suggesting different ways to present it and a variety of wrapping paper to choose from. What a great spot to find a toy that a child can grow with and not just casually throw away like those cheap plastic things that kids always end up with at Christmas time. I was glad I took the previous sole reviewers advice and drove over here. There are neat places to eat at very near by so it was nice trip all round. Downtown Plymouth is always nice to browse through. TLDR: Toys for kids from 3 to 10 years old. You have to Park in Street. Free wrapping. Great toy selection with quality toys. Welcoming but not overbearing service. Worth the trip! Great little places to go have something to eat near by.

Good quality toy store with nice staff. My daughter loved visiting and playing with the Calico Critter toys on display.

It's in an old garage --- make the leap of faith and follow the chalk sign into the post-industrial wasteland of a gravel parking area, then bear left. Presentation is more warehouse than toy store --- utilitarian metal shelves, with cardboard bins of items listing name, price, and part number. Some of the furniture is set up in a small showroom/playroom. I saw lots of "Palumba" (or "Palümba") and "Camden Rose" signage --- from what I can tell, Camden Rose makes & wholesales the wooden toys, and Palumba is their retail branch that will sell you just one, right now. The chalk sign on the sidewalk included both names. The books cover a variety of ages, but maybe a quarter of the selection is Elsa Beskow stuff like _Ollie's Ski Trip_ (Swedish, 1907, featuring King Winter and Mrs Thaw, illustrated in an Art Nouveau style). I picked up a treasure-map-making kit (with instructions to have an adult help age the map), a ready-made treasure map, and a small book. I held off on the wooden sword --- it's pretty, but Nerf swords are still causing the occasional problem. Laura Ingalls Wilder would appreciate most of the toys here. So do I. Don't be afraid of the construction vehicles parked outside.

Some friends of mine started something they dubbed Detroit Kite Club. As you might have guessed this involves people getting together and flying kites. I decided I wanted in and after perusing some kites online I opted to go to a brick and mortar outlet as I was going out to Ann Arbor and saw there was exactly one kite store in metro Detroit. The selection isn't huge. They didn't have the cool skeleton or bat kites I saw online. I did, however, get a fantastic large multicolored owl kite that garners positive comments just about every time I've flown it. (Usually at Metro Beach or Belle Isle.) The lady working there was super nice, too. I lost one of the plastic poles that hold my big technicolor owl together and misplaced my reel of kite string so I had to go back and the same lady cut me a new pole in short time after I showed her the one I needed and she didn't have quite the right length. She even gave me an extra free of charge just in case I lose another. And sold me a better reel than the first one I had - I believe this one is 500 feet. That owl can get way up there on a windy day if I let it all the way out. I haven't flown the owl yet this year. I'm planning on going to the U.P. with two other DKC members next month so maybe I'll bring it. They have a kite that looks like a squid. An owl and a squid hanging out - wacky! The Free Design once sang that Kites are Fun and they are. And this is where you can find fun Kites and fun things.

Text convo with a friend this evening:…read more Me: Unrelated to anything I just spent 2 hours at the Container Store and have never been happier. Friend: Wherever we can find peace! Ahh, peace. I don't know the meaning of the word. Though I'm trying! As a maximalist gal with ADHD in a small house I'm forever in search of an organizational and functional storage plan I can stick with. Through much introspection and many self help books I recently realized my issue is "if I can't see it, it doesn't exist." Which means I'm forever buying cans of black beans when what I really need is great northern and constantly getting takeout because "there's nothing in this house to eat." So, with this new clarity in hand, I've taken to overhauling my kitchen in the new year. And the Container Store has been clutch in providing solutions to my storage issues. A pantry that requires a step ladder to reach? How about a pull down spice rack? Deep drawers without dividers? How about stacking bins so I can use the vertical space, too? Expired baking ingredients from the last time I tried to reorganize but didn't realize until it was too late that the jars I put everything in don't stack effectively, leaving a teetering mess I've been afraid to disturb? How about a baking pantry storage set with equal sized widths for easy stacking? (And built in brown sugar softeners and powdered sugar sifters, too! Be still my heart!). Weird corner cabinets that are deep caves of awkward, oft unused space? Why not some pull out shelving storage? And so much more! Jar openers! Lemon keepers! Fancy pens! NOTEBOOKS AND PLANNERS! Omg. I haven't even begun to talk about the craft storage. What's not to love??? Well, ok. I guess the prices. Which can be high. But they carry many solutions I can't find anywhere else so sometimes I have to bite the bullet and pony up. I do my best to try and stick to their in-house products to save a bit of scratch tho. And becoming a rewards member will net you some solid coupons now and again. In fact, today I happened to have a 25% off coupon so I stocked up on those deep drawer organizers. It took me a while to find the right combo/configurations for our unusually sized cabinetry but I think I figured it out thanks to the countertop they have with grids to help you easily measure. Very handy. Staff here is lovely and ever so helpful. It's never a cheap visit here but it's always a beneficial one. And hey, thanks to my new pantry risers and lists of items we have taped to the inside door (another new trick!) I now know we have 7 cans of black beans, 4 of which are low sodium, and the last time I went to the grocery I got the right beans at last.
