I must admit I did not really need a haircut. Or I thought not. It's not unusual that Sam and George who are brothers cut hair the same way. Many of us find a barber they like and keep going back. If the barber is good he normally builds a following. Well both brothers are good. If the barber is busy you either wait or take a chance on coming back another time. Not the case here. Service with a smile. I was lucky there was a break in business and I just walked in at the right time. I almost felt bad that I did not give him a break. He said come sit down and we will get to it. Then as I sat down it seemed that everyone felt it was time to get a haircut. But no worries. Although the statement first come, first served is true, there is little wait since either one is good. So I really don't like doing this to a small independent business - but I got a bad haircut here. I've been wrestling with this review for 2 weeks and I cannot stand the cut I received even after 2 weeks. So the good:- The shop is clean, bright and Sam (co-owner who cut my hair) was very pleasant. The not so good:- My cut. I showed Sam a picture of a previous cut that I had received from my usual barber and we had a conversation before he started about a particularly troublesome spot of hair that needed to be managed in a certain way. The cut started out well enough - short back and sides, longer on top, trouble spot a little longer as not to stick up. Then he went and cut my trouble spot short. I was incredulous. He then proceeded to tell me that it would be ok, and that when it grew longer and started to stick up then that was time for a trim. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and let him continue. Nope. I walked out of there with a portion of bed head, and 2 weeks later am stuck with significant bed head until it grows long enough to lie down again. If I show you pictures and we have a conversation about what I'm looking for, I don't think it's out of line to say that this was a bad cut. If I hadn't shared any info, it would have been on me... but c'mon ???? I really hate to negatively review a small local business. Really do. read more

Great news here..... You can get your hair cut any way you want it, as long is it's really really short! I went to them several times with the same experience thinking, "they can't really be that out of touch with what I'm asking for." But I was wrong. Tell them trim it up a little and not too short, and you'll get it short. Tell them to cut it short, and you'll get it really really short. These guys really are good if you're into a really short haircut, but if you're not, stay far away. They do work at a great price-point, and they do an old-school straight-razor trim on your neck, so they get an extra star for me from that. Now to let my hair grow back a little bit.... read more

I took my 18 month old son in here for his second haircut. He was so awful at his first cut that I had procrastinated much too long. The lady who cut his hair today mistook him for a girl at first. We all giggled a bit at my embarrassed insistence that he was, indeed, a boy----I had waited MUCH too long!!! Anyhow, she began with the shears, per my request, and he proceeded to scream...............and scream.............and scream. She just kept at it, being as gentle, yet fast, as she could be. She tried to distract him, as did I, to no avail. Another fellow who works there (one of the nicest people in the world, I'm guessing), came over to assist. He tried making the baby laugh, he tried giving him safe things to play with, etc. But what finally worked (albeit briefly) was when he showed my son pictures of HIS son of a similar age. It really made me smile. This man (I wish I had gotten his name) was so kind that he was wiping my sons messy face for him while he wailed. :') That is so sweet! How many strangers will wipe your kid's snot for them??? Not many. I looooooved this place! First time boy's/men's cuts at $5. I tipped $10 bc of how patient, kind and thoughtful they were. A great hidden treasure! If you're on the Northwest side and are looking for someone to cut your hair...I recommend these guys! My previous barber had retired...thanks Rosario for 28 years! I've tried other places but nothing was consistent....and now I found George and Sam! You can't go wrong for a great cut and for $5 for your first visit. My cut was exactly the way I wanted it. George is the best barber on the northwest side of Chicago. He gets it - no frills, just a classic barbershop experience. I showed him a picture, and in 15 minutes, I had the haircut I wanted. - $5 for first time customers, $10 otherwise. - uses a straight razor to line you up, back of neck, and sideburns. This is a lost art since so many shops are afraid of liability. - extremely skilled. George could easily charge $40 for the quality of his work, but you can tell he is a good guy and doesn't believe in that. - there were multiple repeat customers there. Shows that he consistently delivers. I'll definitely be back. I'm kicking myself for spending so much on inferior haircuts at the local salons. G&S is the way a haircut should be, and George is a master of his craft. I can't recommend this enough. read more

I will never go back there again. I referred this man so many customers. He knows it too. And what happens? He treated me so disrespectfully in the end. Here's my attempt of a long story short. The first time I came in, I tried to tip him but he said no my tip is for you to come back. So I came back with several different people because I liked him so much. My fiancé would always leave him $5 tips for his $5/$10 hair cut! So one day, I come in at 530 and waited a bit over an hour patiently. They closes at 7 just so you know. Got in the chair at about 640. Hair cut is finished. I go to pay. I know he takes visa because of his sign. I decide to use my visa gift card. He is like we don't take these. I'm like ok you have a sign that clearly says visa. Gives me a huge attitude ' oh! What am I going to do with this?? Nothing! I made nothing.! It's a gift card! I'm like ok I'll go across to the street to chase and get you cash. This guy had the NERVE to tell me to look at the time were closed! I was in such shock. He had the audacity to tell me that after everything I did for him. I'm sure my fiances tips have added up some where to compensate for the temporary issue I even told him I'd come back the next day. I wish there were negative stars. None would suffice, but 1 will have to do in order to voice my opinion. read more

Working in the area, in desperate need of a trim / haircut. Usually ask for just a trim when unfamiliar with new stylist. Found great reviews for "George's". Walked in and taken immediately for a walk in. The gentleman almost seemed bothered to have to work. I asked for a trim not to short. He was constantly on the phone, but did apologize. He seemed very confidant and experienced. Lets just say by the time it was done it was nothing what I asked for, no hair on sides & back, when I specifically told him not to short. Everything looked uneven. Almost 3 weeks now and still wearing a hat, waiting for it to grow back to correct the damage. At work everyone is like, bad haircur? LOL read more

George and his brother Sam are the primary stylists here and they both do a great job cutting hair. They sometimes have others working there but I have never had my hair cut by anyone else. I usually get my hair cut by Sam every two weeks. He is awesome and uses a straight razor for the neckline and by the ears. I've been going there for about two years now. It's nice because if you're not in the mood to talk they don't talk, but if you want to have a conversation they are great to talk to. The place is clean and well lit. I think they are from Libya, and they do woman's, children's and men's hair. My five year-old goes there too and she always gets a lollipop after her cut (she even gets one when she's with me for my hair cut). The best part is the price. Your first cut is $5 and after that it's just $10. I was going to the Hair Cuttery before here and they would charge me something like $17 to cut my hair (badly- they always leave you with hair all over yourself, and the cut is different every time even if you go to the same person). Then you're expected to tip them?!?!?!? I usually give Sam a $5 tip because it's cheap, fast, and he does a good. Plenty of parking, its next to a 7-eleven and a gyros place. read more

What more can you ask for? I walked right in and sat in the chair. The cut was very good. The price was $5 because it was my first cut and will be $10 from now on. That's a good price. It sure beats Hair Cuttery for $17, old man barber shops for $14, and barber who has a great personality, but cuts my short hair crooked for $12 (who cuts hair crooked?)
