George Howell to the rescue with a short line that moved quickly to get my order placed and then my name was called. Super coffee that was hot and fresh. I was actually very impressed and surprised. The mamuto was available as iced coffee so I got that and it was so good. The notes came out so well. I wasn't expecting to have such good coffee. I don't have much to say except that this was one of the best red eyes I've had. I love it when I don't have to ask if they have a red eye or shot in the dark or whatever other name one wants to call a cup of coffee with a shot of espresso. It's right up there on the menu and that made me happy enough....but then I was thrilled that the flavor was excellent. I'm not an expert, but I know my taste buds. I've been trying to venture away from chain coffee shops and watered down lattes. George Howell Coffee has become an essential part of my day. I had come for the strong coffee, but plan to keep coming back because of the staff/service. I find that a lot of times baristas are not the most attentive and just wish to get customers in and out of line. Here I find that with each encounter the staff upholds service standards that are beyond exemplary. Not only do they pour an excellent cup of coffee, they do it with a smile, remember your name, and even go the extra step to point you in the right direction of the next part of your day (making suggestions of other businesses in the Public Market). First con - extremely overpriced in my opinion for a coffee, but I believe every company should charge what they're worth so if you come here, just know it's your personal choice to pay or go to Dunkin Donuts down the street and move on with your life. Second major con - I came here thinking it was a small business so I looked up their website and they sold out to Starbucks in 1994. As a young and hip consumer, I like to keep my eye out for family owned/small businesses that are not part of a large conglomerate. These days it appears Starbucks either buys everyone out, or forces them out of shopping centers and I don't particularly respect that practice and generally try if I can to get my coffee elsewhere. Some benefits - they had a real vanilla bean infused flavor to add to make the ice coffee vanilla. Usually those taste nasty to me but this one was very good! I had my coffee with a Union Square Donut and it was the perfect combo. Bottom line: Overpriced but tastes good, but owned by Starbucks so I can't justify the price point as I'm not contributing to small business. read more

I'm a fan of George Howell Coffee -- but I am aware of how pricey their coffee is at their Boston Public Market booth. In actuality, I have never purchased a cup of coffee here -- rather, if I purchase anything at all, it's a bag of beans which comes with a FREE small drip coffee (please get it black, don't cover up the amazing flavors!) I brew my own pour over at home, so it's worth it for me. I've tried the **KANZU beans (Rwanda)** and the **REKO beans (Ethiopia)**: preferred the Reko over the Kanzo. In general, they change their line up pretty frequently, so it's fun to come back and try out different beans! They'll also grind it to your desired size if you're lazy to do it yourself (ahem, aka me and my flimsy arms.) read more

I'm definitely a fan of George Howell. The Boston Public Market location is nice, and offers good drinks, friendly, unpretentious service, and a decent variety of single farm beans for purchase. We tend to go here for beans more than drinks, and they're not my favorite roaster in the city, but the beans are definitely worth checking out. We don't typically drink drip coffee at home, so when we go, we're looking for beans that are roasted for espresso. The options aren't nearly as plentiful as their drip variety, but we haven't been disappointed in any of their roasts. Their Alchemy is a nice, affordable blend, and the Daterra is a solid go-to. Those two are almost always there, and they don't have excessive stock, so the beans are always fresh. If you come across some of the less abundant beans, I'd buy them, because they won't be on the shelf for very long. Overally, this location is a grab-and-go spot, but is probably my favorite specialty coffee place in the North End/Faneuil Hall area...especially now that the market is open 7 days/week. Actually came here for the Taza Hot Chocolate. It was delicious! $4 for a small cup of hot chocolate made with local stone ground Taza Chocolate. Even came with a milky floral and heart design. I only didn't award it 5 stars because a guy (who didn't take my order) made me a cup of coffee first, instead of hot chocolate, and then later he seemed confused when making our hot chocolates. Horrible! Almost $6 for a small iced mocha latte that was not even full! And full of grinds which made it undrinkable. The flavor was ok but I could not taste the mocha. Walked down today to visit George Howell coffee stand inside the Boston Public Market. They have a chalk board menu -- I'm visually impaired so colored chalk wasn't helping me read the speciality drinks. Did not seem to have the London Fog/earl gray latte I've read about--or I just could not see the board--insert my audible sigh here. The cashier kept asking us if we were ready to order, I had a cold/iced mocha my friend the same but she got almond milk. There is no small -- one size only about a medium size, a little on the pricey side at $6, but this was a special treat. Agree best mocha I've had in a long time, nice balance of chocolate/coffee not bitter or overly sweet. They don't take names so it's a little awkward waiting down the end while the barista makes the drink. It was 2pm, only 2 people/staffers -- they seemed a little frantic and rushed. read more

This is located right across from the Popover Lady (do try one of her delicious popovers if you're there!) at BPM. I'd never seen the chain before but based on the line they're pretty popular. I wasn't sure what to get so I went with the ad right in front of me as I waited that said to order one of their original coffees that made them famous. Okay - I'm easy. The drink was expensive - $6.15! I know everything is a bit more in BPM but that was ridiculous. The coffee reminded me of a Coolatta from Dunkin' Donuts. Very thick and sweet and like a slushy coffee. It wasn't worth the price. Would I order it again? Well, no. I expected something stronger and less like a slushy drink. I probably would stop in again but would be sure to see what the price is before ordering.
