George is like a gourmet snack and fancy anthropology store for dogs. Fresh snacks, birthday cake slices, gourmet jerky, treats, stuffed toys, poop bags... it is fun to see how innovative the store is. I love the San Ramon location too - where even I got mooncakes for my friend's corgis. They don't have much for cat's but the little bumblebee stick feather toy I got for our cat is his favorite toy and the quality is so good it has lasted a full two years. I've been shopping at the George pet boutique since it was located in California near between Fillmore and Steiner when I previously lived here years ago. Always cute, quality items to choose from so I thought of them when I was seeking a pet gift. My neighbor is getting a new little Yorkshire terrier puppy this weekend (it's also her first dog, ever) and I wanted to stop by to buy some toys for her puppy. I was looking for toys that would fit a little Yorkshire terrier puppies mouth that did not have a loud squeaker or had some crinkly sound to it. Tara, the super awesome store clerk was very helpful with pointing out toys that met my needs. She and I also bonded over the passing if our own Yorkshire Terriers. I bought some additional treats and other dog toys for a slightly bigger dog as I often dog sit a Pomeranian. He (the Pom) loved his treats and toys however I will only give one toy or treat at a time as I don't wanna spoil him too much. It's always fun being the auntie. Prices are a little higher here than some other stores but their selection is great and sales person was super helpful and awesome. I'll be back again. read more

A historical and lovely dog & cat pet shop in a family friendly neighborhood. In short, the highlight is the bakery treat sections. They have tons of cute and delicious looking cookies even I want to eat them. We got salmon heart, turkey heart, peanut butter cookies , apple and rabbit cookies and bully stick. Our puppy loves them all! They have own branded beds, blankets , leashes and collars. Our puppy's name is George too so it's a beautiful experience to buy accessories here. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Gave our puppy lots of treats helping him to choose his bed. Their huge store cat was also very friendly. My puppy never met a cat this close before so he was barking at her. She didn't react or get mad at all. Lots of treats and toys in fair price. Branded accessories. This is the kind of store that makes you grateful for Amazon. I drove across town specifically to go here to buy a couple of items. When I walked in, the woman who was working there (not the owner) didn't get off her ass once. I asked her about different products and asked if they had any other price points. Her response was "we only sell local, designer products here. If you want something made in China, go somewhere else." Not that I think China is the hallmark of quality, but the woman who said this was herself Asian, so not sure why she felt so inclined to make such comments. When I asked the price of a few more items, she told me to look at the price tag myself and then turned the music in the store louder. I waited patiently for the store to open. I entered at the same time as another customer who clearly knew the lady working this morning. I came with every intention of buying several items. I had a question but couldn't even ask it. The other customer and your employee engaged in an incredibly long conversation about his son getting a job. He screamed the entire time as he clearly didn't understand the meaning of "inside voice". He paid for his few items and stood at the counter continuing the screaming conversation. I couldn't even say "excuse me" to start the purchase process. The employee should have said "I need to help the other customer" but she didn't. I then had to hear about her son in college. I gave up and walked out. I just purchased 4 dog sweaters and toys online direct from the company. I tried to support local business it wasn't possible due to the complete lack of awareness of the employee. Unfortunate. read more

I didn't have the experience many have had with a so called rude shopkeeper. The salesgirl working assisted me with all my needs, especially when I was shopping for a 60 pound pitbull who loves nothing more than to chew on toys and eat an entire bag of snacks in one sitting. There's also a secret goodie I would even eat myself: apple slices with dehydrated beef. AS ONE TREAT. These are only made for this store because the staff packages the treats themselves. Very cute pet store for humans to visit! Lots of toys, fancy collars, some dog clothes, select foods, literature and pillows... very fitting around Fillmore. I like the woman who gave me samples of an up&coming raw dry food (EVO by Innova) and told me where to get it (another pet store down the street) b/c they don't sell it here! How sweet :) Good recommendation, 'cause my babies loved it!! My pets are generally anti-pet-approved toys, so I just browse... but this place is a convenient drop by for kitty grass when I'm grabbing lunch nearby. Shall I summarize my review by saying my dog knows his way to George and doesn't understand when they're closed and we can't go in? My pup is picky about treats (read: rescue dog who now thinks he's royalty living that Pac Heights life). However, he'll eat everything from George! I guess he just has a discerning palette and knows quality when he tastes it. George has a wide selection of treats for all pups and I feel confident that everything I buy there is quality and nutritious. They also sell a great selection of food and the whole Orijen line. They have a beautiful selection of collars and leashes, along with everything for your kitty cats as well. Finny was very shy and finicky when I first got him. We've been going to George since roughly day 1 and they are always so sweet to him and have always been able to help with any questions I have. The fact that he now knows his way there speaks to their customer service and quality. George is a wonderful neighborhood pet shop that is a gem we're lucky to have around. read more

Love this little pet store. It's very high end but the people that work here are so friendly and generous with the dog treats. My dog loves coming here! I typically come in once a month to get Charlie his beef bone wrapped in bacon. But they sell everything from dog/cat food, supplies and treats galore. They even sell beautiful doggie birthday cakes. I love that they use an old fashioned scale to weigh the bones and price them. They really love pets here and want you to bring them in. Highly recommend this place and supporting small businesses whenever possible. read more

"I can't believe that blanket was a hundred bucks!" I said as we were leaving. "I can't believe they didn't offer to help us." I paused for a moment. She was right. The clerk was really friendly with the lady before us. The clerk was really friendly with the lady after us. But if anything, the clerk seemed agitated when I asked her how much that hundred dollar blanket was. I guess that's what you get in this neighborhood. She probably didn't know that I had a six-month old purebred lemon beagle, one that's showered with so many complements on the street, at the beach, and at puppy socials that people regularly want to take pictures with him. She probably had no idea how much we've spoiled him, with training classes, daycare, and enough toys and treats for an entire pack of dogs. I really don't know what the person behind the counter was thinking when we walked in the store. But I do know they could have treated us with a little more customer service. read more

We bought our dog Penny a cute red jacket and orange turtleneck today at George's (see my profile pics, Penny's modeling her new clothes). We also picked up a cork mat for her bowls and a REALLY cool shedding blade. Endorsed by Oprah, so you know it's gotta be good. (It looks kinda scary, but it WORKS!) The staff was SO friendly and helpful and they gave Penny tons of treats. They also gave us tons of free samples of dog foods, treats, shampoo and conditioner and supplements. Well, if you're spending nearly $200 on your dog, they better throw in some freebies! And YES!! I HAVE become one of THOSE crazy dog people!!!! Great place. We'll definitely be back!!! read more

This is a great store. They have catchy, unique designs and an interesting array of products - many of which are customizable. They also carry Orijen, undeniably the best pet food on the market. My only quip (aside from the crazy prices) are the differing return policies for in-store and on-line purchases. In-store returns are provided with store credit only and on-line purchases are allowed a full refund (you can read the policy on their website). Why the favoritism? If anything locals should be rewarded by patronizing a hometown business, not punished. And yes George, I'd appreciate you explaining yourselves. The $180 pet bed I had to return (I soon discovered after bringing it home that my puppy would have destroyed it) will provide me with a healthy store credit for a ton of dog food. But it would have been nice to have been treated with a little equality and not be placed in a choke hold once they got my business. You're a great store, I'll come back...no need to get neurotic. read more

I'm a cat owner who wants a dog. I mean, I tried dressing my cat in a pink "Cute Bitch" shirt and dragging him down the street on a leash, but I couldn't quite grasp that Paris Hilton vibe. I was in the hood today and decided to check out this cute little boutique I read about on Yelp. The space is pretty tiny and jam packed with various gear, toys and treats. The staff was very sweet to Nacho...but I thought the stuff was a bit over priced..even compared to Bella and Daisy's on Union. $5 for a Flossie---whoa??? Nacho chews through that thing in less than 60 seconds...I did let him pick up a squeaky monkey though... _______________________________ Update: Same Day..I originally gave this place 4 stars...but took away one more star as the squeaky monkey did not even last 4 minutes..the tail came off and I had to yank the cotton filling out of Nacho's mouth. Seriousely..all his other toys are still in tact..they may be crusty...but still intact. Squeaky Monkey disappointed us... read more

Willie was feeling a little under the weather last week so we stopped by George to pick him up a new harness and to check out the toys and snacks. We received excellent customer service-the woman working that day went out of her way to adjust various harnesses (harni?) for Willie to try on. LOVE this store! When we bring Bella into the city, my sister often takes her on long walks with stops into George's for special goodies. The staff is quite friendly and often gives "samples" for pups and great info for us. Super cute selection on all doggy accessories, treats, health care products, etc. Some items are quite unique but definitely aren't cheap :) Bella's Favs include the dried lamb jerky and chicken jerky. Fashionable pet store. This is where all the cutesy girls go with their tiny dogs and big sun glasses as they shop on Fillmore street. I like it here, Emily loves it. They have good quality treats and food. You don't see a lot of the "junky" pet foods and treats since most of their products are higher end. Good selection of collars and leashes, though expensive. The staff is friendly but a bit detached. Still we come here once a week (or more when Emily is being very spoiled) to stock up on treats and goodies for the little dog that runs our lives. read more

I love George. Not only because George looks exactly like Gordon, but also because they sell those red rubber mousies that Gordon loves so much. He'll tear holes straight through them, but he'll still toss 'em around the apartment as though they are brand spankin' new. Over the holidays, I happened to see they had an outpost in Macys so I got him his sassy red cape to wear on chilly mornings and nights. He looks great as it matches perfectly with his red George-branded leash. What a little gentleman. One caveat...their prices are pretty damn high. read more

This is Josie's favorite store in the whole world. After more than a year of training, she's doesn't seem to know a single command. Until, that is, we're in the vicinity of George, all her training seems to come right back to her. As soon as we get close to the front door, she gets into perfect pointing position (she is a hound after all) and waits, rather impatiently, at the door until we let her in. Of course, this is heartbreaking when they're actually closed, she doesn't understand, the poor thing. The place is sensory overload for dogs. You dog will lick your face in thanks for taking you there. It's like FAO Schwarz for pups. The lamb burgers are Josie's favorite. We usually buy a bagful and then break the up into smaller pieces to feed into her salivating maw. The staff is awesome here too. Super helpful, dog lovers, and they dole out free treats to well behaved (and sometimes naughty) friends. read more
