The staff is always so friendly and I love their policy of being able to return anything if your pet doesn't like it. It shows that the owner really cares about the well-being of your pet rather than the profits. I love the open treat bins because I let my dog pick out his own treats. I have a 83 pound husky mix, so the bathing stations are super convenient. Although the price has gone up from the self-service over the years. I remembered paying $40 for 5 baths, you pay for 4 tokens and get one free. My partner used up our last one and this time he said he paid $60 for 4 tokens. I asked if there was a deal and the seal was $60 for 3 tokens, with 1 free. The jump in price is pretty crazy, but it saves my pipes from clogging. I'm not sure if it's something they can fix, but once in awhile the pressure from the water spout and the dryer is a bit weak depending on the station and it is not consistent. This happened to me maybe 2-3 times and the staff always allows me to switch stations after I had already inserted my coins. Doesn't always fix the issue, but the pressure can be slightly better on a different one. read more

So they have this awesome special that if you buy three bags of pet food, you get the 4th FREE. AND, you can mix and match. That alone is not why I love it so much though. I like the variety (Well... my CATS like the variety), and the folks who work there are very knowledgeable about all things PETS. in my last trip I had a conversation with a team member about buying grass for my cats and I took their suggestion. I brought this little thing of grass and my cats went nuts. Just another thing to add to make my kitties happy. I've also gotten some tips on OTC stuff I can give me cats when they have some respiratory stuff happening (L-Lysine FYI) and it seemed to help! One of my girls has issues and doing great. They have a huge selection of Stella & Chewy as well. If you haven't purchased this for your dog or cat, you should. THEY love the stuff. The ONLY drawback, parking can be a challenge because everyone is going to Jolibee, it's still doable though, and I'm not taking any stars for that! Just the "quick" tip, GO THERE. It's been almost a year since my last review. I still am a loyal shopper at the Mission St store. The new staff is absolutley the most professional and friendly. My Lab, Stella, knows when we're close to the store and starts whinning, and I have to take her in. She loves all the staff also! It seems this store has had a lot of staff turnover in the past 3 years, but the current staff is great, and hope HQ keeps them. I met the new manager, and he's very focused and committed.Reese and the others are perfect. I'm also happy they have a membership now, because I spend way more than I want because this store, it's like a candy store for pets. I have the fussiest cats, and have gone through so many brands , and finally, they like Tikicat, and they like all the varities. (Thank goodness) It was my first time coming here today and I came here specifically for a certain brand of dog food. I found it on my own really quick and had questions about the different choices this brand had. I asked the employees at the cashier for help and immediately Nate came over to answer my questions. He provided knowledge about the brand, was able to help me narrow down my choices, and even gave me brochures about the brand. At checkout, the register was being a little glitchy but he remained professional and the staff that came to help was able to fix the issue. The store was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I've never been inside until today and wish I had check out this place sooner. There were plenty of different pet food, pet supplies, and even a bathing station. I recently started fostering dogs (and already foster failed, one month in) and therefore have been a regular at Pet Food Express. It's hard to decide what my favorite part is: the deals, the shower stations, or the friendly service. The shower stations are what first drew me here, as my foster dogs don't come in smelling the freshest, haha. As of summer 2022, each shower is $18 (or you can buy 4 so each comes out to $13.50). They provide aprons and towels, and the elevated shower stations are super useful, as they have stairs to get the dogs up to our level, plus hooks to hold onto your dog's collar so they don't move or escape during their least favorite activity. You then use the dials to switch between a shampoo that comes out of the showerhead, warm water rinse, or blow dry. I absolutely love the Buy 3, Get the 4th Free deal that they have (as long as all 4 of your items are within the same category: Dog Kibble, Cat Kibble, Canned Food, Treats, Litter, Toys, Wash Tokens, etc.). Sometimes they are low or out of stock during this period of challenging supply chain issues, but I just check their inventory on their website before making a trip. I just picked up half a year's worth of my dog's food and treats today and saved over $80! Plus, everyone who works here is so nice and is able to find the balance between helpful & eager, while also giving you space to browse at the same time. From very knowledgeable staff and the convenient VIP Pet Care service, this place is great. During my last visit to get my dog's nails trimmed, the display at the front of the door housing multiple kittens for an adoption event toppled off. The. Vet and vet techs for VIP Pet Care didn't waste time and ran over to not only to get the display back up but also checked all the kittens to make sure they were all OK. Although I was next to have my pup get taken care of. The Vet and team's quick action made me feel glad that they were here to take care of those kittens. The Pet Food Express staff in the past also helped me find the right food when my dog just went through the ER for a major stomach issue when she would not eat anything. But with the right advice, she regained her appetite and has been a happy and healthy girl again. Much thanks to everyone here! read more

I don't often write reviews for non-restaurant establishments but this is an exception if I've ever made one. Conveniently around midnight, my Malinois happened upon a skunk and learned his first lesson that when the butt is turned, Mr Skunk is NOT your friend. Subsequently, he took a major face/eye/chest blast of 'perfume'. The service I received/was shown this morning/noon by Mark/Mike (unfortunately I forgot his name, but the manager I believe) and the rest of the crew was nothing short of amazing! I'd be overjoyed to get this level of customer service at a bourgeois type groomer let alone a chain store! Mark took one look -excuse me - whiff, and immediately knew exactly what I'd need (both physically and emotionally/reassurance as it turns out...). He quickly went over how best to go about cleaning the odor with a brush he selected in combination with a deodorizer I had previously purchased elsewhere then directed me to the self service baths. Both he and his crew went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed: even went so far as to keep my Mal happy (as could be under the circumstances) with treats and assured me that I could stay as long as needed regardless of time limit at no extra cost. I ended up staying for nearly two hours 'wash-rinse-repeat'ing the process and the crew even made sure to check in occasionally to make sure I was doing all right/hadn't drowned. They even let me wash/scrub out my Mal's transport crate in their wash area! Talk about going the extra mile! Thanks so much for making my first (hopefully but probably not last) skunk encounter as smooth as it could be! read more

This is my go-to pet store! Being from SoCal, I had never heard of Pet Food Express until I moved up here. I always have a great experience and the workers are super friendly and they have given me some great recommendations on products. I also like that the store isn't too big like some other pet stores and there aren't a ton of aisles to look through, but they have all the essentials. They also have a great return policy so I've been able to return items that ended up not working out for my dog. They also have a pet wash station which is super cool. I haven't been to any other locations except this one, but will definitely continue to going to their other locations if I move. I know what I need, I find it and bring it up to the register to check out. Every time I found the clerks to be unfriendly, un-engaged and ungrateful for my business. I stopped patronizing this location but never said why. Recently, I found myself needing to go there for some dog food. I hoped there would be new, better trained and pleasant employees. No luck. Honestly, I don't think their customer service could be worse. There is simply no reason to be so rude to an average customer. Guess I learned my lesson. I won't be back. I am done with the sh*tty customer service and total attitude these employees have, they act like they're doing you a favor by talking to them. We live in Daly City area but now we have decided to go to Millbrae just to avoid poor customer service. We won the sweepstakes from a dog food company and we advertised this location on our Instagram which is unfortunate. So whenever we come to claim our prize, which we get every month, they always initially try to decline us from using it and inform us that they don't take the coupon and they have to contact the manager. Last time we went, they entered it incorrectly (because they didn't even bother to read it) and did not provide us with the correct item plus the Female staff that "helped" us gave us attitude. Came here for the self serve dog wash station, first time customer of this chain and this particular store. The staff was great! Very friendly and helpful, you can tell they really love animals. The wash was top notch, you get 25 minutes for your 15 bucks, a multi function warm water wash and rinse nozzle with several shampoo options, a blow dryer, an ample supply of clean towels and an elevated station that's easy on your back and has anchor leads to keep the dog from jumping out. Our big dog loved the staff and was super excited to get a treat and do some tricks for them. This is our go- to place from now on, absolutely A+ recommended. My dogs love this place (we'll, I like to think they do) as it is conveniently located where we live. It's like a 5 minute drive from our place for this one-stop-shop for everything your pet needs. The best part is the do-it-yourself doggie wash station. After taking our dogs to the beach, we often come here to clean and shower them. This beats cleaning them up in your backyard or in your shower as we all know how back breaking a work that can be. And, you don't have to clean up after it's done. Our Lab, Maxie had a so-so experience her first time as she didn't know what to do and what to expect. After several visits, she'll gladly hop in the tubs and gets ready for a rinsing. The water is lukewarm so it's comfortable for both the Master and Pet. They have different settings and shampoo selections to your preference. I always go for the Mango scented one as I am biased towards anything tropical. Our Bichon smells like hard boiled eggs as my youngest son recently discovered so this helps to get the smell off. Amazing how my son was right on about her smelling like hard boiled eggs. So typical, he's always thinking about food. I wonder who he got that from? (guilty) So back to the scene: You can buy a token for $15.00 for 25 minutes. That's more that enough time for us and we usually take care of both dogs in that time frame. If you're coming back, I suggest you get the special buy 3 and get one free deal. It's totally worth it and saves you money in the long run. So after inserting your token, you just simply shower, lather, rinse and blow dry. You can bring your own shampoo and brush as well and towels are provided by the staff. It doesn't hurt to bring extra towels if you have a big dog to dry. You don't have to worry about getting wet as well as matching aprons are also provided for your convenience. They have small and large sized aprons and are both adjustable. The best part about this place is the staff. They are always friendly and helpful. They will even pass by to give your pets a treat or two. You can tell they are animal lovers and love the work they do. They are very engaging which makes your visit very comfortable and relaxing. I'll give you a secret...other owners usually takes way less than 25 minutes to shower and dry off their pets. If you get lucky, you can use their remaining minutes to dry off your pets. read more

Someone immediately came to help me and explained all the differences between the products. What I appreciated the most was that the person helping me didn't try to upsell me too hard. Very bad customer service here at the manager level. I hope this review can help train employees at this pet food express. Hope the area and district managers can see this review and create an action plan to improve customer service. Currently, all the pet food express stores have honest kitchen goat milk (powdered form) on sale. The product is located right next to the cashier, on a small shelf. The original price was $16.99 and the discounted price is $13.99. There are two forms for this product, one is the cat form and the other one is good for both dogs and cats. The reality is both forms are on sale. The manager (with black hair) at the store told me only the cat form is on sale at $13.99, but the one dog form is still $16.99. She even checked (or looked at) the computer and confidently told me the dog form is not on sale. The question here is - did she type the code for this product on the computer at this time? Or did she just give me a random answer? I walked out of the store, called the stores in Pacifica and SF right away, and confirmed that both versions are on sale. I went back to the store after the call verification, she typed in the code (the dog form) one more time and it was indeed $13.99! She was mistaken that the dog form should be on sale. Wondering what was she looking at the first time when she checked on her computer. The other person (who was also a manager according to this manager) almost overcharged me as well. I bought 7 chews, and she scanned them 9 times. I caught it before I pay. Please improve the store staff's professionalism and treat the customers with respect, especially at the manager level. Here are a few things that the two managers at this store can improve based on the job description for the store manager at pet food express: - Eagerness to learn, you consider yourself a lifelong learner. -- I received no apology from the manager with black hair that she was mistaken regarding to the dog form, that the dog form was indeed on sale! Please treat your customers with respect and learn from your mistakes. Don't always think you are correct. I was confident that I was correct, so I called the other two pet food express. Yet the manager was so confident that the dog form was NOT on sale LOL - Demonstrated ability to set standards and hold team members accountable -- as a manager, please set high standards for yourself. If you are not doing well, how can the staff be motivated to do well? - Commitment to delivering an outstanding customer experience -- my experience was awful. - Become an expert in pet parenthood and nutrition staying up-to-date on new products, industry trends, developments, and opportunities, and sharing your knowledge with your team -- not understanding the product fully after reading the product. The price that was given to me was wrong. In my case, both probiotics powdered goat milk is on sale. For customers, please double-check your invoice before you pay. Try to call other stores to verify information if you are certain you are correct. One thing to add- this review has nothing to do with the exclusion criteria for buy 3 get 1 free product. I came here to wash my dog today and the store was lacking. The store was out of plastic collars to wash my dog (which is typically offered) and no soap coming out of the water. When I asked the person who was cleaning the dog wash area about the collars he abruptly said, "people stole all of them". Also not every wash are has a bottom latching system, therefore, I had to climb up to dry my dog. Due to all of the tugging from the wash, my dog's collar broke; if I knew that the collars were not available, I would have brought a different collar or went somewhere else. I cannot recommend this place enough!!! The customer service is immaculate! The staff is very knowledgeable and makes you feel like you are part of their family! Every staff member I have met has been very helpful, Stephanie recommended great products for my puppy to help with teething and recall training, the lady with the pink hair recommended kibble that my puppy absolutely loves and Tasha recommended a probiotic because my puppy has picked up a grass eating habit. I always leave this location with my wallet empty but with a big smile on my face! I never feel like I am being pushed a product just to meet a quota. BUT three of the items I ordered , (they contacted me after the order was placed), are not available. So I had to take a smaller more expensive size. And one can was half crushed. I tried to support Vetco, but found PETCARE VIP instead & so glad I did. Yes they do wander around in various locations with different time slots, but for what they charge & the professionalism, prices & friendliness of this company it's worth a go! PRO-tips: 1.
