The Georges Cycles in downtown Boise on third Street has a mechanic there named TJ. He was able to help me find and fix some problems. Others weren't. He was super informative and helpful. He will be a reason that I start going to George's for service and help. I'm pretty picky when it comes to bike shops And so I more so look for mechanics I trust. The Boise store on 3rd needs some customer service training. I came into the store intending to buy a helmet, some tools, and look for some input on water bottle and cage options. I was ignored by the staff. Not one person even said "Hello" or even acknowledged I was there. I walked down the entire row of helmets even picking up a few. Clear signs that I was interested in helmets. The two guys at the one counter were far more interested in talking about their favorite rides with what I can only assume is one of the regular visitors. I guess I could have interrupted the chat, but staff should be alert to customers walking around the store. I can tell you, when I worked in customer service in retail, we were trained to acknowledge an entering customer and ask if there was anything we could do to help. I still need to buy an electric bike for my wife, I know one store I'll be taking off my shopping list. In short, a great place to go if you want to be ignored. The one thing that struck me was how friendly the people were. Matt and the guy who assisted us with bike rentals( forgot his name but you know who you are- you're from Northern CA) were helpful and answered our questions and got the bikes we wanted. Hello- During a June 2023 visit to Boise, I became ill while getting fitted for the rental bikes and had to leave the store immediately. On our trip in September 2023, Trevor honored our previous trip's credit and we were able to rent bikes to enjoy the green belt. Friendly Customer Service I don't live nearby but was looking for an exact helmet model they had, and they were so helpful over the phone. When they transferred me to a different store that had the helmet, they even did a warm handoff (introduced my problem to the new person). They were really warm and friendly, which in my experience can be quite unusual for a bike shop. I would totally go there if I lived nearby or visit the area. read more

I rented an electric bike from George's today. It started off great. Then it just started randomly shutting off.(obnoxious problem but not the end of the world) I did ride 30 miles today on the greenbelt, but when I got back to the shop, the guy didn't seem to care nor apologize for the issues. He did offer to swap it out. My annoyance made me not want another bike. If you're going to rent an electric bike for a day, the battery should last a day.... And if there's a problem with the rental, you should at least respect the customer and apologize. read more

Great and convenient location downtown. Free 2 hour parking on W. Broad St. FYI only. There is a new building going up and construction workers seem to be taking many of the spaces (09/2020). Or you can do free bike parking at the entrance on 3rd street. Friendly service inside from the sales associates. Supposedly they don't get paid on commission so they are happy if you buy a bike, but also important not high pressure if you don't buy a bike. Buying a bike is a tough decision and highly subjective and personal. It can take demoing a few to see how they really feel. And thankfully here they let you do that. Just put on your helmet and take one for a spin around the block. It's nice and clean inside. Pre-Covid-19 they had nice clean solo restrooms on the right rear side of the store. Now those are closed. Pre-Covid-19 they had a huge inventory of bicycles. Now they don't have many at all. Maybe 10% of usual inventory. I don't hold this against them as bikes are flying off the shelves now and there were production shut downs from major manufacturers. But I'd also like to see them get more in so you can actually do some visual shopping in person instead of just online. We've had bike fenders, racks, tires slimed, and basic maintenance done here. It's all been done well and I recommend it, but it is not cheap. I guess that is to be expected. read more

I've started going back to George's, because of the hours and location it can be convenient. They have really tried to change both atmosphere and the customer service. I haven't been hounded by a sales person once. I've been helped by some excellent service people. They occasionally will stock some bits that the smaller shops can't source. Thank you George's for great service on a slow cold day. My daughter's BOB stroller tires were running extremely low as we were heading to the Festival of Trees last weekend. It was a cold morning, but we walked the couple of blocks to get to George's, hoping we could get some air in the tires. The shop was very slow, so the friendly staff was happy to see us when we came in. We used their self-service area to air up the tires, but needed help getting air in the smaller front tire. The bike technician was only too glad to help, and we were off on our way. So while this wasn't a typical visit, and we didn't buy any bikes, accessories, or service on this day, I have used George's in the past, and have always been happy with the quality of items they sell, and the service and support I have received. We stopped by the Downtown store to buy a few small parts for my bike. Nobody acknowledged us as I'm sure we looked a bit lost. I hustled to the service desk and got the parts I needed but, I wasn't getting that "I want to help you vibe". We shopped around the store and rental area and not once were we acknowledged with a "hi" or "can I help you find something". They weren't that busy. We even had sales people walk right by us. Sherry and I visited a couple of downtown bike shops on 6/9/18 to look at bicycles. On our first visit we were helped by store manager Frank Leone. Frank had his arm in a sling from a recent bicycle accident that left him with a broken collar bone, and the first thing we noticed was how the employees showed their care for Frank by helping him get bikes ready for Sherry to test ride. The other thing that stood out was Frank's demeanor - kind, patient, understanding, and grateful for his employees. Then of course there were the basics - he was knowledgeable and passionate about the products he sold, and quickly matched Sherry up with a bike that was perfect for her. We returned later that day and were helped by Katie, a young salesgirl who like Frank was passionate and knowledgeable and ultimately landed the sale. The contrast between Katie and the salesperson at the other downtown shop was remarkable: Katie knew her products and set the bike up perfectly for Sherry. The salesperson at the other store was friendly, but knew nothing about fitting bicycles or the nuances of the products she was selling. I've been riding my bike on semi-flat tires recently, and oh-boy my legs have been feeling it. Today, I figured it was time for a tune-up (either that or I would just boycott riding my bike all together). I gave George's Cycles a call and said my tires were really low and I wasn't sure if the air tubes needed replacing or if they just needed a little air. They told me they would have to look at it (complimentary) before they could give me a price (if I needed any work done to it). I wheeled on over to them, and to my surprise, my tires just needed some air. I also mentioned that my chain tends to come off (especially if I'm pedaling hard). They filled up both tires and tightened my chain free of charge! And the best part, I was in and out of there in less than 5 minutes. Should I need any replacement parts/more work done on my bike, I will definitely come here. Awesome service, really friendly, and helpful! Kellen at George's stepped up to the plate very patient and willing to help me figure things out. I purchased an Electra Townie 7D. It's wonderful!!! I read another review that stated "mixed experiences with employees" and that sums up my experience. Over the past 11 months I bought 3 new bikes and accessories and had a very good experience with the staff, especially Kevin. The bikes (2 mountain bikes and a road bike) suited our needs and were fairly priced. Then this week I went in twice for repair and other needs, and both times had terrible experiences with staff at the front register. Two different staff were condescending and unprofessional. I was surprised and disappointed. At this point I don't plan to bring them any more business, which is too bad because we'll likely need 3 more bikes in the next couple of years. read more

I am so thankful for George's Cycles to work on my Radrover electric bike. This was my 4th repair in 3 years. Radrover e bikes are very cheap......and you get what you pay for. No one wants to work these cheap bikes.......the electronic components fail quite often. I was a Pedego Dealer in 2012. They all lie saying made in usa. I am very thankful to have my bike fixed by such a professional bike shop like George's. My advice dont by an e bike from Radrover instead pay $1000 more and get your bike at a reputable shop like George's A+ all the way read more

Love our new co-motion tandem. And Joe was extremely helpful and this Tandem is the best bike we have ever ridden. Joe helped us with the excess cerise and making sure our bike was all set up and added so many accessories that we are so excited to get on the Greenbelt. If you haven't ridden a tandem you should check it out. It is the best thing for couples. Co Motion bikes are one of the best in the industry. Will and JIm, at the State Street location, went way beyond, what I call customer service. We purchased this amazing new Co-Motion Bluebird Tandem from the downtown location and needed some upgrades, as we are planning a trip and needed fenders/ front rack. They had to do some custom work and did a amazing job. I am so glad we purchased this bike from George's Cycles. Look through the reviews. Everyone giving one to three stars is clueless and from many years ago. One star because Fox took a while to fix your shock? Thats Fox's fault, not the shop. I have lived in Boise for my whole life and there is not a more professional shop with more experienced techs ANYWHERE. There are mechanics in their 50's and they've been doing this their whole lives. Every shop is going to make an occasional mistake but George's will always make it right with the customer and nowhere else will get your bike as finely tuned as George's. read more

We rented bikes to ride the greenbelt last weekend. They had an ample number of bikes but they had NONE available that were step-through. They also had no small frame bikes available. Apparently they only have two step-through bikes and both were reserved. I'm found this really disappointing as lots of people are short and need a smaller frame, and many people need/want a step through for a variety of reasons. It's inconsiderate and ableist to assume that everyone can ride a high cross bar medium framed bike. I hope they will reconsider their rental inventory. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. We reserved and paid for 2 rental bikes the day before we were to pick them up. The website let's you select the exact bike you want. When a specific bike is not available, it is grayed out. We selected 2 bikes. When we arrived the next day, they went ahead and rented out one of them to someone else, even though it was reserved in my name. The sales guy who was helping us tried to blame someone else. After about 30 minutes, he walked away and started helping other customers. He didn't tell us if we could get another bike or anything. He just avoided us. When we asked another employee, he blamed his boss . These guys are total scammers who only care about money. DO NOT do business with them. read more
