My Experience with the online ordering was terrible, the system did not work properly and wouldn't accept the order. After wasting time online trying to order I called the store instead. The girl who answered took my order and was very pleasant. I did have to call store again to get a invoice and it turns out that I was billed twice for the same order and had to call back several times to get it sorted out. The gentleman in accounts was rude, cut me off when trying to explain about online and was not very nice. Made me feel like it was my fault for using online and thats why I was billed twice. He did not even want to try and correct the online issue but instead answered abruptly and said they will look into. It did get it sorted out eventually but what a task to get a meat tray delivered. I will think twice ordering anything like that again from there. read more

I am not from Thunder Bay but I recently stopped at George's Market as a family member recommended it. It's my new favorite store. The staff are very friendly and the store is clean and well organized. The asparagus swiss & dijon stuffed pork loin is delicious, as well as the homemade perogies. I would also recommend the pecan pie. There are so many great things to choose from. read more

I never felt myself concern about local food as much as recently, even though in the past few years, I have been shifting between vegetarian and non-vegetarion diets from time to time because of many issues. When I strongly consider about eco-friendly shopping, I chose a vegetarian diet and when I have too much pressure in study and work, I would just drive by McDonald and grabe a super gross burger. Thoughout last year, I have been keeping a cook-at-home habbit very well even in the most busiest day. This habbit makes sure that I will never be looking for fast-food to trash my body. Ethically, I don't want to consume many meats because if human use the animal-feeding lands to produce vegetables and grains for human, more people can be fed. In addition, a vegie-based diet is far more easy to digest and much healther for the body. The items in George's Market seems could reflect the agricultural situation in Thunder Bay region. Local cheese, local meat prodcuts and local eggs are avaliable. The meat price seems no big different than big grocery stores, whereas local cheese cost much more (but the quality also much better than factory products!). The bakery section is fantasically filled with freshly baked breads and soooooo yummy!! Yes, lots of baking gems in this region and we can meet them in the Country Market. Most fruits and vegetables are imported (current local grown fruits and vegetables could not feed the whole region at all). We can also buy many daily cooking stuff here such as oil, jams, peanut butter, etc, but the prices all higher than big box stores. Overall, this is actually a very friendly local grocery store that you can buy some limited local products, and I hope they will have more options in the future. In the past few years, I always concern about when should I swich my big box grocery buying habbit to a more traditional, more pre-1950 style. For an individual, it is too easy to conpromise with the colonial system: it controls people's destiny by giving out cheap temptations, and you don't really have a choice because the "cheap" stuff is the only thing that you can afford. This year, I feel I can't wait anymore. Buying local food is just an easy step (by reducing my food input quantity), but I really want to do more. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but I am so beyond impressed with the quality and service I repeatedly get from George's Market and Celebrations over the years I just have to share. I have ordered numerous Gift Baskets and even the Holiday Meals and they never disappoint! In fact, they keep getting better and better! Last Mother's Day they delivered fresh delicious meals to my parents doorstep so my mom could have family over and enjoy herself without shopping, cooking or a mess! She told me the taste, freshness and hassle-free experience was such a treat! Last week I ordered 2 custom Easter Baskets. My mom is diabetic, and I wanted specific items for my daughter and grandson. Theresa, who took my order was so sweet and patient as I was rambling on listing off all my special (and odd) requests! She didn't miss a beat! Charmaine confirmed with me by phone before delivery to make sure everything was just right! (and it was. :)) She and her team did an outstanding job once again, as always... but I really think they out did themselves this time! The Easter Baskets were beyond my expectation! I am so thankful I can call George's Market or Celebrations anytime and know they will take care of my family when I live so far away and cannot be home on so many special occasions.
