Me and my family of four came here lest night after moving into our new place all day. I read the reviews which led me to have dinner here and may I just say 10/10 experience!! My kids absolutely loved it, it was peaceful and relaxing after a long day. I had the 9 ounce Delmonico and it did not disappoint. My husband had the veal parm which seemed nice and crispy breaded. My daughter had the kids burger which was huge!! My son had the spaghetti and meatballs. Me and my husband had coke to drink and for anyone that understands the coke was spicy and perfectly carbonated!! We also shared the loaded fry's and the portion was huge!!! Visited today after one of my neighbors recommended. From the outside u was worried about the quality of the food. However, after enteringthe establishment their customer service was top notch. This restaurant is awesome -- one of the few solid mom-and-pop dining venues still left in Hampton Roads. So far, I've had New York strip each time I've been; medium-rare. It's always cooked flawlessly, and they get good cuts of beef. Baked potato, and fries are great sides, too. The salads are terrific; fresh, crisp, cool, and dressings are all great. Bread and crackers are customarily served with the salad. The service is wonderful, with friendly, helpful staff candidly providing information on menu. My friend has been talking to me about this place for a long time. When we finally met up, of course it had to be George's Steakhouse. It's an old school family restaurant. Started off with some half sweet and half unsweetened tea which was poured perfectly. I don't normally review drinks but this stood out for being so refreshing and not overly sweet. Started with the chicken tenders appetizer. Nothing to write home about IMO but my friend is reminded of her childhood eating them. Lightly breaded and served with a generous amount of honey mustard on the side. For dinner, I got the Romanian steak with a side of fries. Let's talk about these fries. They're home cut from what I understand but the portion size is insane. It's not a side, it's an entree. It's about the size of four large fast food fries together but much tastier. Fries tasted amazing especially when paired with the steak. It was cooked medium as requested, had a nice bark, and was served in a beef au jus. Overall I had a great meal. George's is a great spot in Suffolk. My wife and I have only lived in Suffolk for a few months, but have been to George's numerous times now! The food is always delicious, the staff is very friendly, and the restaurant is a great family friendly place to eat lunch and dinner. My recommendations- The shrimp Po'Boy is phenomenal! Seriously, one of the best I've had (and I've been to New Orleans!) Their burgers are hot off the grill top and are always good as well, albeit a bit greasy. Their grilled chicken salad is amazing- the chicken is very well marinated and the feta cheese is soft, fresh, and oh so good. The fried chicken salad is very good as well. For a side dish, their onion rings are fantastic as well- get it with the boom boom sauce if you'd like a great dipping sauce! The decor's a little dated, but I throughly enjoyed my Delmonico Cut Ribeye Steak and my sides. It came out cooked to a perfect medium...although I would probably go with medium-rare if I go back (the steaks are not that thick, so I was cutting it close asking for medium). The only ding was the service was kind-of slow and my steak wasn't as hot as I would have liked. The most redeeming thing about the evening was our server. We came here during the height of Covid and they were cranking out the meals for take out. We got a bunch of different meals for Mother's Day and they were very good. The steaks were done beautifully. Everything was well packaged and there was plenty of food to go around. We went back a couple of month later as things began to open up again just to pick up some sandwiches to go, and it was very good. We've never eaten inside yet, however, so hopefully we'll get to try it one day. read more

Looks like a local mom and pops place. It is outdated but has the cozy feeling of home. Staffs are very sweet. Clientele are mostly mid age to elderly. Simple menu and no flash or flares, but tasty. It gives me the feeling of small town diner which I absolutely love. I take this place over Texas Roadhouse any day. Not a place for a date to impress, but a place for a date to know someone as it's nice and quiet. I had the delmonico ribeye and it was perfectly cook, just a little lower on the season and butter side, would be perfect with a sauce like A1 or some horseradish. Known for steaks but cannot cook a medium well steak how is that my companion got the steak well done. He said it was tough to eat and when I was looking at it he was having a hard time cutting it. I explained to him that he should return it but he insisted on eating it. I had a fish sandwich it was dry and the cheese was not melted but just thrown on. I didn't feel comfortable in this place with the cleanliness, the poor service, and the outdated seating that has a odor. George's is a great place to eat. The best food, in my opinion, is the hamburger, either on a bun as a traditional burger or a hamburger steak meal. The meal is fresh, tender, and flavorful. You will declare it one of the best burgers you have eaten. Let me give you a tip for the hamburger steak dinner. The menu lists several options for potatoes but does not show mashed potatoes. Not sure why because you can get them. They are great: homemade will a few lumps and full of flavor. The brown gravy that tops the hamburger steak is a good topping for the potatoes. Definitely a meal to order, or perhaps you would prefer a burger and fries. Now for the bonus. You might think, OK, George's has good burgers and steaks, and that is true. However, they also have outstanding spaghetti and other Italian food. Who would expect it here? You might not think it is true, but the Italian food is great as well. We went on a Saturday at 5:30 and the place was packed. We were seated promptly as a table of 2 and the service was good. We felt a little rushed and our server provided excellent service even though she was waiting to on quite a large area. She kept the drinks filled and other servers pickup when help is needed. The food doesn't sit, the first available person delivers it when it's ready. We waited around for about 10 minutes for our check when we were done, but understood why when we saw her serving a table of 12. We would go back for dinner again. read more

This family-owned restaurant is a staple in Suffolk. They always have good food and great service. I'm always pleased with my food, and never had any complaints. I don't eat red meat, but I hear the steaks are cooked well. I love their fries, small natural cut, and you can never go wrong with any of their pasta dishes. We came to get food after a funeral visitation. We arrived at 8:15 pm. I asked the manager if it was too late to be seated and he was more than inviting assuring us we would not be an imposition as they try to close by 9. I got a burger and it was delicious! You can choose between fries and baked potato. Loved that as I don't eat fries and usually have to pay to upgrade to a baked potato. The server was attentive and on point. Needs to update decor. Owner not very pleasant. Been here many times but food is bland. Had a severe ant problem the last time I came.

I'll preface this by saying that I am a food snob. However, I was born & raised in the South and have eaten at many a podunk restaurant in the middle of nowhere. George's is the perfect place to take the family for fried seafood or steak. I rarely eat anything fried & I don't eat cow unless it is organic free-range grass-fed, etc (not nearly as easy to find in Suffolk, VA as it was anywhere on the west coast). That is why I can't give this place more than 2 stars. Everybody I know in Suffolk loves this place, so I continue to go and not complain to them. My complaints specific to my own food are: the crab cakes have way too much filler & the popcorn shrimp were over-fried. I visited this restaurant on a Monday while I was in the area on business. Not many choices in the town and this place was recommended through the hotel. Parking lot was full.... usually a good sign... yet the sign promotes steak, seafood, and pasta. The environment looks like a cafeteria. Our server was very friendly and attentive even though she seemed very busy. Appetizers are typical... mostly fried. They offer a special of the day and a soup of the day. I had the grilled chicken with the vegetable of the day (green beans). The entree came with a side salad. Some greens were brown but the blue cheese dressing was very good. Big chunks of blue cheese. The entree was good and priced at $12.00 for two chicken breasts. My co-worker had a steak and grilled shrimp. The steak was just ok- very fatty. The shrimp looked small for the price of $7.00 for a side. He enjoyed his meal though. The restaurant did serve beer although we just drank water... I didn't notice a wine menu although they may have one... just not sure. Reason for three stars is the restaurant was better then average but not great. read more
