Porkchop dinner with potato salad and yams. So good!
    Crystal S.

Hands down one of the best restaurants in Chesapeake. If you haven't had their porkchop dinner with yams, or m&c or potato salad or any other sides, I really don't know what you're doing! I've tried different things off their menu and it always ends with me unapologetically licking them fingers. I know, I know! It's not a pretty picture, but I'm trying to stay right with God and tell the truth. The food is great, the service is on point, and it has a laidback and comfortable atmosphere. Not to mention the people are very welcoming and nice everytime I go in. It's a local family own restaurant that you need to try out. High scores all around for me. Ps. If your child is guarding a wiggly tooth that needs to come out just get the corn on the cob as a side. A win is a win!

    Grilled Chicken Sandwich & Fries

My first time visiting this establishment & it did not disappoint. It's a family owned business ran by integral people. The service is fair & polite, food always came hot & ready. This was by far the best grilled chicken sandwich I've had. It was cooked all the way through, juicy & well seasoned, so were the fries. If you're looking for some fresh soul food made with love, I highly recommend this place!

We figured we'd have a light meal while we wait for our grandson and this little cozy eatery was literally in front of us so we paroozed the menu online and they claimed to have apple and sweet potatoe jacks but when we asked the only dessert they had was chocolate chip cookies? That in my book says your food better be all that because the idea of Jack's warm and tasty were the draw! Anyhoo let's give them a shot wifey ordered a catfish dinner Ma Dear ordered the shrimp Dinner and I requested the cheeseburger and fries. Thier claim to fame was the cook everything to order so let's get it on, well it all came out hot the mac and cheese was cheesy the fries were golden brown the catfish was good but small so the compensated for the size by adding a few shrimp great customer service Now the food is Legit this place deserves and will get a return visit Stop by and enjoy this little Hidden Gem

Soul food in Hickory! Easy to miss, but worth checking it out. Food is hot, seasoned well, and cooked to order- some waiting will be needed. The young man at the counter is very polite and answers all your questions since they have specials not on the menu. There are tables there, but it feels more like a take out restaurant. I've been a couple of times and all the traffic has been to-go! Check them out! Wont be disappointed! Only reason didn't give it a 5 is because sides have been hit or miss for me- LOVE their candied yams and Mac and cheese. Wasn't too fond of the rice and gravy and green beans were ok for my taste.

I have literally known about them for 2+ years and every time the food has definitely hit the spot. You MUST try the Thirst - Mango Lemonade & Now&Later Juice. Honestly, all of the thirst drinks are bomb as they are made fresh by one of the owners! Also, the Mama Wings & Yams! Wheww I can honestly say my overall experience was a 9.5/10. I would love for you all to try them and let me know how your experience was! ( IG: @KeeLashayTV) . * .: 1457 Mount Pleasant Rd Chesapeake, VA 23322

Heard about this spot... so we had to try it out. Everything was good. I would eat here again. The green beans had an awesome flavor. I haven't tried the Jacks yet but they look good. Mac and cheese could have been better... it was just ok.

BUT unless I see the business pushing their political viewpoints I never know how accurate rumors are plus I like to assess things for myself. Group of 3 came in on a rainy Memorial Day afternoon. We were immediately greeted by a friendly waitress who told us to sit wherever we'd like and she'd be right over. The place was not busy and our waitress was very sweet and efficient. We each ordered a different breakfast item (served all day) and I have to say everything was tasty. Pancakes cooked the way I like with crispy edges. The breakfast potatoes were crispy seasoned cubes but not at all greasy. I love that sourdough bread is an option. Overall, it's a good diner breakfast in a diner environment. We didn't get any dessert but there was a woman there as we were checking out who raved about the cake slices there and told us she comes almost every day for a slice of cake. I forgot to snap pics but the pics on here look very consistent with what we had and saw.

I've visited this place a few times over the past couple of years, and unfortunately every visit…read morehas had some kind of issue. I kept giving it another chance, hoping things would improve, but that hasn't been the case. There have been multiple instances where orders were completely wrong. One time, a friend ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and they came out without cheese. She politely asked for it to be fixed, but when it came back, it was still wrong. When she brought it up again, the waitress told her the chef said it was correct, which was frustrating since it very obviously wasn't. After going back and forth, they finally brought out eggs that actually had cheese in them. This was incredibly frustrating because while we waited for our friend to get her food, our own food went cold because we didn't want to eat without her. Having them make her eggs multiple times Tuuk time. On another visit, I ordered pancakes and something was clearly off. It wasn't just that they didn't taste good, it tasted like something used had gone bad. I couldn't tell if it was the batter itself or maybe something like the butter on top, but either way it was enough to make me question the quality of the ingredients being used. The waitress asked if I wanted new pancakes, which I found kind of funny because it was like she completely expected me to finish eating them and that I was just giving her feedback. The last time I went was with my family, and the service was extremely slow. We waited about 10 minutes just to have someone take our drink order, and another 10 minutes to actually get the drinks. After that, we waited again for someone to come back and take our food order, but no one returned. After nearly 30 minutes of just sitting there with drinks and no order taken, we decided to leave. My husband left cash on the table for the sodas and we walked out. The restaurant was completely empty and there was no reason for it to have taken so long. If you've been there, you know that it is a very open dining area which means we could see all of the weight staff just standing around and chatting. if it had been very busy and taken time to get our food or drink drinks we absolutely would have understood because we know the wait staff can only do so much at once. I know this place seems popular, but after multiple visits with CONSTANT issues, it feels like more than just bad luck. The food quality has been very inconsistent, and most of the staff I've interacted with seemed inexperienced and not particularly friendly. Despite having been in there at least seven times I have never once left there without something being wrong or having terrible service.

Jennifer was our waitress and her service was absolutely spectacular. I was celebrating with my sister and ordered the closest thing to steak and eggs... which just happed to be the Steak & Hash.! I asked for the potatoes to be super crispy, eggs scrambled soft and a medium rare steak. Jennifer advised that I cannot order the steak to the temp of my choosing because, this dish does not come with a whole steak. This dish comes with cut up steak pieces. She requested for them to be cooked light. This dish also doesn't come with eggs. I ordered it on the side. Overall this dish was very pleasing to the eye but my darn potatoes were COLD... I was breaking all the rules and ordered carbs after my intense workout just to be heavily disappointed with cold taters lol... the fish looks amazing but this goes to show you that looks can be deceiving. The eggs were cooked to perfection.. not just anyone can scramble eggs soft. So the kitchen does get a point or two for that. The steak pieces are very small and thin my sliced.. not much flavor but at least they weren't chewy. Overall I did not eat my dish. I just packed up the entire plate and enjoyed two glasses of champagne with grapefruit juice. My guest ordered a dish called the chicken chimichangas or chickichangas. I believe and she devoured it!!! I didn't get a picked but it looked like a chicken omelet with hollandaise on top and some fresh fruit! Overall I am eating this place a 3 only because my service was excellent, the restaurant was clean and had ample parking.. the bathroom was clean and I just happened to be in great company. Side note. They do not sell regular size bottles of champagne. Here. You can order champagne or mimosa and they sell small individual bottles of Barefoot Prosecco I believe.

It's in the same group of buildings such as Michael's (around the corner). My visit here was on October 27, 2025. The outside view of the business is simple, but effective. They have a specials chalkboard next to the entrance. Parking wasn't an issue on this visit, but I'm sure it can fill up at busier times. My mom and I were both in the area as she wanted to go to the Michael's store here. When we came inside, it wasn't busy, as it was around 3:30 pm when we got here. We were greeted by the one who would be our server for this visit. He gave us menus to look at and asked us for our drink orders. I generally stick with water with lemon, which I did here. We were there during the time where it was still the lunch menu (though for us, it was more like dinner for us that day). When he came back with the drinks, he asked if we were ready to order, but we weren't just yet. He also asked if we had any questions about the menu and options and gave us more time to mull over the menu. When he came back, we weren't completely ready, but asked a question about the specials of the day. After that, we knew what we would get and placed our food order. My mom ordered the Meatloaf Lunch Special with mashed potatoes and spinach. I went with the Meatball Sub Lunch Special with mashed potatoes, though I don't normally do potatoes that often. After about ten minutes or so, the food came to the table. The food looked really good, and it was hot too. The bread for the Meatball Sub was very soft and easy to eat. The meatballs were huge and made for a worthy meal. The mashed potatoes with gravy was really good and fulfilling too. My mom loved the meatloaf, and their meatloaf doesn't have ketchup on it like some other places do. She loved the meatloaf, spinach, and mashed potatoes too. After we were done, he asked if we wanted any desserts. We both declined as I normally don't do them anymore. Overall, we both had an excellent experience here. The food and service were on point. The food I had that day did spike my blood sugars, but I expected that with bread and mashed potatoes. I don't make a habit of that though. They are a great local business. There are lots of food options to choose from. If you are looking for a place to eat while in this part of Chesapeake, this place is worth coming to.
