Extremely disappointed, First time and last time trying this restaurant. We arrived at 1:17 PM and placed a to-go order. We were not given an estimated wait time. It is now 2:45PM over an hour later and we are still waiting with no updates from staff. I completely understand that lunch rushes happen, but communication is basic customer service. If the kitchen is running this far behind, customers deserve to be told upfront so they can make an informed decision. I was waiting in the car with my toddler, who fell asleep around 1:30 PM while we were still waiting. Sitting in a parking lot for over an hour with no communication is unacceptable. If you value your time, I would not recommend ordering to-go from here. Respect for customers' time clearly isn't a priority. Updated Finally received our food at 3:45 to only be left more disappointed by the portion sizes. Only received one piece of fish for a dinner, yams are not homemade and Mac and cheese was dry. They offered a free drink at 2:40 pm which doesn't nearly compensate for time. They continued to take orders by phone and in person and couldn't handle demand. At a point when your kitchen is over 2 hours behind, you need to push out the orders you already have and turn people away. Yum! We stumbled upon this place today and our whole family are huge fans! It took longer than expected to get our food but it all came out piping hot and super fresh! It was definitely worth the wait. I did not get enough pics but I'll add more next time. 2 of my kids had the burger and fries and they were great! Super soft and yummy buns! They were able to accommodate my sone and his allergies pretty well. He had the grilled chicken sandwich wrapped in lettuce with fries. It was well seasoned, hot and fresh! Hands down one of the best restaurants in Chesapeake. If you haven't had their porkchop dinner with yams, or m&c or potato salad or any other sides, I really don't know what you're doing! I've tried different things off their menu and it always ends with me unapologetically licking them fingers. I know, I know! It's not a pretty picture, but I'm trying to stay right with God and tell the truth. The food is great, the service is on point, and it has a laidback and comfortable atmosphere. Not to mention the people are very welcoming and nice everytime I go in. It's a local family own restaurant that you need to try out. High scores all around for me. Ps. The "momma that's a mess burger" is absolutely delicious the staff is also really friendly and quick to check in on you!

We figured we'd have a light meal while we wait for our grandson and this little cozy eatery was literally in front of us so we paroozed the menu online and they claimed to have apple and sweet potatoe jacks but when we asked the only dessert they had was chocolate chip cookies? That in my book says your food better be all that because the idea of Jack's warm and tasty were the draw! Anyhoo let's give them a shot wifey ordered a catfish dinner Ma Dear ordered the shrimp Dinner and I requested the cheeseburger and fries. My first time visiting this establishment & it did not disappoint. It's a family owned business ran by integral people. The service is fair & polite, food always came hot & ready. This was by far the best grilled chicken sandwich I've had. It was cooked all the way through, juicy & well seasoned, so were the fries. Soul food in Hickory! Easy to miss, but worth checking it out. Food is hot, seasoned well, and cooked to order- some waiting will be needed. The young man at the counter is very polite and answers all your questions since they have specials not on the menu. There are tables there, but it feels more like a take out restaurant. I've been a couple of times and all the traffic has been to-go! Check them out! Wont be disappointed! Only reason didn't give it a 5 is because sides have been hit or miss for me- LOVE their candied yams and Mac and cheese. I ordered the pork chop dinner ... it was really nasty ....the yams taste like they were straight out of the can... they're like the block kind of yams.. seems lik they took them straight out the can & poured cinnamon on them calling them yams lol eww... t he macaroni taste like Velveeta and they use a really thick noodles not the elbow noodles .... the pork chopsfried too.... Stopped here on a Sunday afternoon and couldn't be more pleased! The gentleman greeting us at the register was very in tune and took our order and handled a conversation with us. Very cool! Our food was simply delicious! The ladies in the back cooking were awesome! Our food was perfect! Chicken sandwich, catfish sandwich, whiting sandwich and pulled pork. All good! My whiting sandwich reminded me so much of central Indiana fish fries volunteer fire departments, churches and nonprofits throw. Thank you for that! The first thing I'll say, is it was so fun watching the owner smile the entire time we were there, as though she was having a great time, and so proud of the food she was serving, and the full restaurant. I had high hopes for this place but was disappoint by the quality of the products. I had gotten the deluxe burger with all the fixings and chili on top. I forgot the name of it but it had "mama" in the title. The patty, bun, and chili all seemed generic, like they were products from costco. The bacon and fries were great, however. If the owners did something more gourmet for the above mentioned products, I think the restaurant would do a lot better. It's unfortunate that Hotrodders is next door to compare to. read more
