The Georgetown library is a wonderful place to be. Getting a library card is easy. You just need to show your identification and proof of residency. The card is free. You can check out books or music. There's a lot of places to sit in here and I see people sitting and enjoying each other's company. Some people are studying on their laptop. They have a wonderful sweet lemon kitchen area to get some food and drink drinks. The people who work here are very kind and helpful. You can check out the availability of your book online and reserve it, and they will put it in a special place for you. However, I love going through and just looking through the books and finding my book myself . There's something special about a book! When the book is due to be returned, they generously text you and ask if they can extend the rental, the avoiding charges for forgetting to return a book! There are events that are held at the library, such as concerts and other gatherings. They are posted in the front of the library. You should go look at them. This has become my new regular place. I am now reading a book series and it's so nice that I don't have to buy the book. I just read a book and I bring it back and I get the next one and in the meantime I'm certain to make a new friend! They have a children's section that just looks amazing. They even have a Jeep in there for the children to play! It is modified to be completely safe. There's no risk here. They have an elevator so you don't have to take the stairs to the second floor if you don't want to. When I was there, they were having a sculpture sale and it was just beautiful sculptures all over the library just wonderful. I highly recommend this library. read more

Only 1.5 blocks off #Austin Ave in downtown #Georgetown, this #library is a hub of activity for all, with lots of parking in a dedicated lot or public parking, just across the street. Children & moms seem to enjoy their dedicated space. The #LittleLemonCafé offers #scrumptious grub with a #smile, too! I highly recommend visiting & picking up a short read while here... and enjoy the beautiful #sculptures as you enter or depart! This library is alright. For ebooks, it's great, if you reside within what they consider Georgetown. As in you might have a Georgetown address, but they consider you "out of network." That means you have to pay for an otherwise free library card. If you're coming here to study, good luck finding a good space. There's a lot of older people who come in here to use the desk space and they are very loud. I'm surprised because you would think they of all people understand the concept of a library. There are individuals who watch videos without headphones, as they sit in the quieter study space of the second floor. This is not where you come if you're looking for a good space conducive to quiet studying. That's a shame for students who live in this area and don't want go to their respective college libraries. Or for people working on their dissertations or other projects that don't have a quiet space at home. I've been at better libraries throughout the nation, so this is just an average library to me. read more

I love suburban libraries because they're large, new, and have extra features. There is a cafe with drinks and desserts, painting and sculptures on display for sale, teen space, plant cuttings sharing station, fast public use laptops, water bottle filling stations, and numerous cute reading nooks. read more

I was made to feel unwelcome and excluded and do not feel comfortable returning as someone who falls within the scope of the Americans with Disabilities Act. My respiratory disabilities weren't taken seriously at all by some of the staff which caused me to be exposed to indoor air quality pollutants. The director didn't seem to be concerned with my experience but simply stated something about letting her know and trying again. When someone asks me what I expect them to do in a nasty way, it doesn't make me feel very welcome or as though my voice would matter. When I am told, "Well...this is a public place..." as an answer, that doesn't seem very inclusive. Better yet, being told, "...we can't police people before they leave their houses..." doesn't cause me to feel as though my disabilities are being taken seriously. Who is so bold to actually believe that brand of language is acceptable with a patron? What if there were no wheelchair ramp, and the same staff member told a person in a wheelchair, "...well...this is a public place..." as an answer to why there's no ramp? What if someone with a respiratory disability asked for an isolated space to utilize for research, which was granted, and then had staff send people into said space with Clorox wipes who begin wiping every table down while the person with respiratory issues is still inside? What are you as the person with the respiratory problem to do when you are trapped in a room with chemical contaminates? Should I jump off the balcony or scale down the outside of the building to escape? It is disappointing that the director exhibited little in the way of interest after I made the statement that I no longer felt comfortable or safe returning the facility. read more

One of the best libraries I've ever been to. After a bad Airbnb experience, I was stuck without a workspace for the day. And because it was raining, all the indoor coffee shops I visited had I seating. I then ran across this library, and I'm so glad that I did. It had a coffee shop attached and ample room for working or reading. They had a section that was dedicated to teens during certain times and an entire room for children and 12 and under. They also had a table set up with a puzzle partially worked on, allowing people to sit and work on it with random strangers. All this to say, it was great work working and seems to be a place that is really involved in the community. read more

This Award-winning Library has several wonderful programs, including Art displays and Music programs. It has a large children's library and a modest Teen section. The Little Lemon Cafe has been doing well to fill the void of the Red Poppy Coffee Co.. I love this Library! read more

Beautiful library with so much to offer! I just wish they'd feature beautiful art in the lobby and entry way area, like the pastels in the upstairs hallway. The "art" near the stairs is horrifying and scary to children, please remove that!! My kid didn't even want to go near it. read more

This is the best library! Not only is it big and beautiful, but it's got an amazing book selection. They work hard to stock their kids section with diverse books that feature lots of different characters and topics. Their Spanish book section is pretty good too; in fact as a dual language teacher I borrow books there frequently for my students. The library also does great events for all ages, especially for kids. During the pandemic they did virtual events and are now doing events outside. If you request a book they will always order it for you. Love this place! People in Georgetown have been salty about the library because they have been openly supportive of the LGBT community, but that's on them. The library is ahead of the small mindedness that sadly is characteristic of some Georgetown citizens (but definitely not all). read more

It is a very nice building and facility which is why I am giving it two stars instead of one. Unfortunately I had an experience with one of the staff and found them to be extremely rude. But could be just one bad apple right? So I emailed the primary library email address with my concern, and they just ignored my email. Never responded. Such a shame to have such a nice building in the town with rude staff and administration that doesn't care enough to even respond to emails. read more

We love all the amazing artwork on display, and it changes constantly. Our most favorite thing is scoring books from the friends of the library upstairs, they even have some movies and music cds, the cds are 4 for one dollar...let the games begin. read more

I love this library! -free wifi -coffee shop with many coffee, snack, and food options -eat anywhere in the library -many current magazines to read -tons of DVDs, CDs, and books to borrow -rent bicycles for free -multiple study rooms -many desks to study with many available electrical outlets -borrow books and magazines online to read on your android and apple devices -multiple community events held at the library: live music events, tech assistance program, movie events, art exhibits, etc -"free access policy": access anything from the library -video games for kids on the 1st floor -"bestseller policy": obtain new york times bestseller lists of books -available meeting rooms -public computers -fax, scan, copy machines -exam proctoring For the negatives, it can be noisy on the 1st floor. I would suggest to study in the second floor. Consider the noise environment similar to a coffee shop or being on a plane: it is hit or miss on employees and visitors. Just do what most people do in other venues, buy some headphones or earplugs. Some seats are recommended to only use for an hour or less and reserved for handicap. But, are these negatives really that bad compared to the positives? You will find me frequenting here for studying and hanging out! read more

I have to admit, I'm pleasantly surprised by the Georgetown Public Library. It's a large, two-story building that can go toe-to-toe with most of the Austin branches. Not just in selection, but also in cleanliness, activities offered, and artwork displays. There are several eye-catching works of art scattered through the library, including: a tall humanoid figure carved from wood; a white dragon made of spray-painted scrap metal; various paintings and sculptures from local artists and students; and even names of authors etched into the glass of the doors. The first floor is most of the library proper. There are plenty of stacks for books and movies and music, yet the area feels bright and airy. The second floor hosts the Second Prose Bookstore, which sells heavily discounted books and movies to benefit the library below. The second floor also has several chairs for relaxing and reading, a Texas History and Genealogy room, and various meeting rooms. I remember interning in Georgetown right after college and observing a city council meeting in one of those rooms. The ladies running the library were all very personable and happy to help. I was very happy with the level of service there. I mean, considering Georgetown is still a relatively small town, to have such a large and well-run library is quite impressive. read more

Nice library and nice lay out. But if you want to get any work done, study, or need a quiet space, you better go elsewhere! There is no courtesy when it comes to QUIET. There were patrons laughing and chit chatting in the study areas, and even the staff were loud and goofing around with each other. It's pretty frustrating when you need a quiet public space like a library and it's as loud as a Starbucks. read more

My mom lives in Georgetown and she suggested we go here with our twin four-year-old boys! This is the cutest little library ever. There's a café next-door. There's a really great sculpture made out of toys out front. There is a giant kids section that has lots of great books, audio books, movies, even some computers for kids to use, some play toys and even a real jeep they can climb in. We were especially excited today to see that on Saturdays from 12 to 2 PM you can read to a puppy. My kids did really great and I think it takes the stress off of them instead of having a parent hovering over. We will definitely be back every time we're in town! read more

My only complaint about this library is the noise.. I though libraries suppose to be really quiet.. I started coming here because I needed a quiet place to study.. I love the access to study rooms and the book selection.. the people I have dealt with in the library are VERY nice and helpful.. The wifi is really good too.. read more

Noisy. The library has many programs for children and adults, as well as displays of beautiful local art. But as previous reviewers have mentioned, the level of noise here is NOT appropriate for a library. This goes for both downstairs and upstairs. If you're a college or a graduate student looking for a quiet spot to study, this isn't your place. Verbatim from the crabby librarian at the upstairs circulation desk, "This isn't your grandmother's library!" Large study rooms are available, however there are only 2 or 3 rooms, and you must reserve them in advance. read more

This is a fine public library, especially for a small city the size of Georgetown. The staff are professional and always helpful. They will happily use Inter-Library Loan to get a book you want that they don't have, or purchase it and add it to the collection. The self checkout system is easy and convenient. Very good video and CD collections, as well as plenty of large-print books. The Second Hand Prose shop is a great place to buy inexpensive used books, too. A nice little cafe on the first floor (a little pricey, I think, but convenient). A large bank of computers the public can use for free, including internet! It's true that the library is a little noisier than some of us are used to, but that is the changing nature of public libraries--they are community resource centers, and not just silent buildings for reading. I go there at least once a week, and always get what I need. read more

Very nice facility and most of the staff is courteous. The noise level is unacceptable for a library, but can be remedied by wearing ear plugs. The staff is not concerned about keeping people quiet in the upstairs study room areas which is mind-blowing to me. I was also shocked that you can eat anywhere in the library. Things have changed a lot since I was a kid, but I wouldn't call it a library, it's basically a Barnes and Noble /Community Center. It would be so much better if they'd designate a quiet study area for students and actually enforce a no talking/noise policy. It's unfortunate, that students have to wear earplugs in the study rooms. Shameful! read more

Loved this place but recently we have noticed the no parents area. However, as soon as you walk in there are books I would really expect to see in the adult section. One that caught my eye was "Sex Plus" loving and enjoying your body. Topics of How to kiss like a champ, The hot spots on your body, and LGBT info. Some many be cool with it but my 12 year old is not there just yet. Any place in the public library parents should be welcomed to be..and I would like to be the one to introduce my kids to topics not my public library by just a book on the shelf and being told to keep out. read more

I think this is one of the coolest libraries around. Lots of space, kids area, adult area, teen area etc., But there are a few unique things too. It has a coffee shop with great coffee and you can carry that coffee anywhere! There is lots of art and sculptures through the building too. The kids area has some neat spaces to crawl around in an pretend like a jeep, but it also has one thing I've never seen at a library... Cake pans.... To check out! Such a great idea. read more

I love libraries, I always have. This one is beautiful, has tons of books, features local artwork, has a cool little bistro/cafe and even has live music from time to time. The folks who work there are nice and helpful. My biggest complaint with this place is that no one seems to care about the noise levels! If you are a student trying to study, or like me, a person trying to find a nice QUIET place to read, check email or do research..... look elsewhere! When I was a kid, they would kick you out for running, screaming or playing in the local library. Getting access to a computer is not easy. There is either a wait, or you have to get on one that is sticky, missing headphones, missing a chair ( because some people have to sit 2-3 at one computer and play video games) or just runs too slowly. Even though there are signs stating to turn off cell phones, and take calls out side.... NO ONE does this, and NO ONE enforces this, at all! There are always young and unsupervised children PLAYING on the computers. This is annoying and obnoxious to those who need access to the computers for business or scholastic purposes. If you have a tablet or laptop, use the wifi, its faster than the pc's and it's free! The Cafe is really cool, and has delicious desserts. Staff there is also friendly. read more

This place has tons of nooks for studying. Everything is neat and I don't have any trouble finding the books I want. There are also great programs available for children and adults alike! There are even a couple for college and high school-aged people. The library is located very close to the restaurants downtown. The Red Poppy Coffeehouse has good food, but they tend to be a bit pricey for the level of effort put into it ($7 for a simple sandwich!) so I recommend either bringing your own food or exploring the Square for a suitable eating spot. The only complaint I have is the volume of noise. Of course, kids will be kids, but it gets annoying when they start shouting and running around. Library could do a better job of asking parents to quiet their children. read more

I an beyond confused as to why this library has such negative reviews. My wife and I have been taking our 4 year old here since she was one. She loves it and so do we. The library is beautiful, the staff are fantastic and I can't tell you how much our daughter has learned from all the books she has read. To any family with young children, make sure to visit!!, We travel from Cedar Park to get there, and feel that if we lived in Georgetown it would be our second home. Thank you to all involved in making this library so amazing. Please ignore these rude people who have no appreciation for all the fantastic work you do!! read more

To call this a library is to change the definition of libraries, which are QUIET places to check out books and study in. I gave two stars because they have excellent facilities if they want this to be a community center. It is a de facto community center. I hear children screaming even though I am currently writing this from the second floor exhibit area. That's fine, but where can I go to find quiet in this culture besides my own home? I go to fast food restaurants which are cheap and have wifi, but I have a time limit and some loud person or their kids usually come in. I could go to a park, but the weather's not always conducive to studying and, yes, also with the screaming kids depending on time of day and particular park. I'll be glad to take suggestions. I know free ebooks are killing the libraries, but do we have to go to extremes to keep attendance up? I also want to know WHY the kids are screaming? read more
