We took our Doberman, Zeus, to Georgia K9 recently. He went in to GaK9 pulling on the leash when on walks, stubborn, and a hand full of energy that was hard at times to control. He came out a different dog! Walking on the leash is a joy, he auto sits when I stop walking, walks next to me, sits, lays down, and comes to hand signals. When I pick up the training collar he is so excited to go on a walk. They posted pictures during the time our dog was with them and provided updates. Before we picked him up they reviewed the training with us so we can easily use it at home, provided a memory stick of the training so we can refresh ourselves with the training. Easy 6 star if you could! For the short readers GAK9 is a priceless God send for obedience and environmental training! My wife and I decided to get a German Shepherd puppy female Heidi. I have wanted to have and train a female GSD (German shepherd dog) all my life since I was raised from birth with a female GSD, Heidi. I had also spent countless hours researching training methods and facilities. My wife was not convinced that boarding for training was how she wanted to have Heidi trained, but after meeting with Chase Haggerman at Georgia K9 NTC and our beautiful Heidi nipping her heels with 3 month old teeth, she agreed to enrolling Heidi in the basic obedience program. I must say thought the week Heidi was there was not easy for us, but it was tolerable knowing who's hands she was in with GAk9. They have an incredible facility with excellent staff. Chase Haggerman and John Wyrick are two of the most awesome guys I know! They are both extremely talented with K9 handling and have my up most respect and appreciation for setting the foundation for Heidi. A few months after completing basic obedience training we returned for intermediate obedience training and choose to train Heide on the remote collar...another priceless decision. As we pulled up to GAK9 NTC Heidi was very excited and happy to be there! We have taken Heidi everywhere that is excepting to us because Ultimately I hope to work her as a therapy dog. I would like to take her to retirement homes, hospitals, the VA. And put a smile on someone's face. Georgia K9 has an environmental program that we plan on enrolling her in as well as advanced obedience training. We are also going to work toward canine good citizen certification. I have no doubt with the help of the great folks at George K9 Heidi will be a star pupil. Kennel Master Amy Wright, Gabby Straub and Chase Hagerman taught me to train dogs and their owners. It was a pleasure to work with these trainers. I never learned so much about dogs as in this time. We highly recommend GAK9. My husband rescued our Grover off the city streets of Atlanta where we live. His DNA indicated he is a possible German Shepherd, Chow, and Pitbull mix. As an extracurricular hobby, I regularly rescue dogs from local shelters from poor conditions and even bad owners. I've used several other dog training facilities but won't anylonger now that I've found Georgia K9 NTC. In October after rescuing a beautiful puppy (pit bull mix) I sought help to control his habit of jumping on people and nipping. My initial call was answered immediately by Phoebee. She made an interview happen the very same day (Christmas Eve)! They observe your dog's behavior during the interview and concisely survey what the problems are. You must pre-pay for the training and they ask owners to refrain from visits until training has been completed. What's great about this company is that they regularly send photographs, call you with updates concerning your beloved dog, and will help find a home for rescues! The facilities are excellent! The dogs have plenty of space to run and play in the woods during recess time. These folks are the best in town plus they train Police Dogs for K9 units so they know their stuff! I have been a K9 handler for Ventura County K9 Search and Rescue for 13 years and I have worked with many excellent trainers but Jeff is, to my mind, the best Jeff Schettler and his partner, Keli Collins own and operate the GAK9 NTC training center. I met Jeff and began training with him approximately 8 years ago. Jeff's insistence on integrity, his attention to detail, his intuitive understanding of K9 behavior and his love for K9 handling in rigorous situations have distinguished him among his piers. Jeff backs up his teaching with good examples drawn from his own experience and his detailed observation of his trainees. As a result, his methods make sense and it is also why the system of training at GAK9 consistently produces outstanding results I have only recently come to know Keli Collins a little better and it is obvious she and Jeff are meticulous in their attempt to maintain some of the highest standards in the industry. Two of my dogs have just completed obedience and environmental training at GA K-9, and I could not be more pleased. One of my dogs, an extremely fearful rescue, gained tremendous confidence thanks to Amy's innovative, tailor made plan for him and the commitment of Gabby, Chase, Laura, Renee, and all the staff. They went above and beyond for this boy with special needs. My other dog flourished in the hands of these wonderful trainers and now loves his workouts at home. Our rescued Great Dane was very territorial, nipped visitors, and attacked other dogs. Other training had helped, but had not addressed the root of our dog's problems. We were in the car on the way to the vet to euthanize him when we heard about Georgia K9 from another trainer. We boarded Hank with GA K9 for four weeks; he took the basic course and the "environmental" course, which helped him deal with being out in public. We saw photos of Hank's training nearly every day and got regular emails detailing his progress. He returned to us a much happier and more confident dog. The entire staff there is calm, positive, and very, very competent. They not only trained Hank, they trained us to help Hank behave well, which he really wanted to do. We had three follow-up visits with them, one of which was in our home so they could assess how Hank was doing in his daily environment and (as needed) correct our behavior with Hank. One thing I really liked about GA K9 was their honesty: After working with Hank, they told us that he would probably not be a "dog park dog" who loved meeting everyone and playing with other dogs; and that we needed to adjust our expectations accordingly. This review has been a long time coming. First I want to thank Jeff, Kelli, Kent, Dale, Tara and Sandy for the awesome Hounds and handler training we received from GK9. Both myself and my partner Mike Mason work for a department which does not have any patrol type dogs. As we did our research into the different vendors out there selling all types of dogs none of the vendors provided what GK9 had to offer. Jeff is retired Law Enforcement K9 handler and he just so happen to come from the same state we worked in and knew all the legal and geographically challenges California has to deal with. Jeff was the pioneer in the State of California and was the first LE bloodhound handler in the state. I spent many hours speaking to Jeff and Kelli on the phone over several months picking their brains about how the dogs work and the limitations. Jeff was always available to answer any questions I had. "Training" So we arrive at the Training facility in South Carolina. Very impressive! They put us up in the handler cabin, three beds, kitchen, bathroom, three beds, AC the works! So we meet Kent and Tara the trainers they, introduce us to our dogs. I can tell you this was a long time coming for me as I have always wanted to be a K9 handler and my dream was coming true. We meet our dogs and get settled in for a two week training experience I will never forget. "The first week" Classroom stuff, how to care for the dog, courtroom testimony and legal stuff. My first trail! I never knew how powerful hounds were until I was PULLED behind Dare for the first time. Holy Crap what a ride! After some counseling from Jeff and Kent on how to slow the dog down and have her work at my pace it became much more enjoyable for the people following me. Trails, Trails and more trails. After the first week I had ran 20 training trails and my dog was nailing them. During the week we did socialization training at one of the schools and was my dog the hit! The socialization GK9 does with dogs is awesome, my dog can my around a 1 year old child or an 80 year old and is so calm. "Week two" Urban training, Tactical trailing and graduation! So we learned about how scent works in large open area of parking lots and shopping malls. After another 20 trails this week onto the highlight of the training Tactical trilling. In this training over the two weeks I learned to read some of the body changes "Dare" would have as we got close to the subject laying the trail. Well in this exercise if I did not pay attention to the dog and missed the proximity alert the trail layers would shoot us with paint balls to give us as close to real life training as possible. Glad to say Dare never let us get hit. So let me tell you about my dog "Dare". She was Jeff's dog. During my many conversations with Jeff he understood how badly our department needed a trailing dog. So Jeff agreed to sell us his personal dog. I know how hard that had to be for Jeff, and I can't thank you enough, I love her and so does everyone at our department. She is doing great things for our department. Dare and Deja have been working patrol since the middle of November and since then we have eight confirmed walk up finds(7bad guys and 1 lost person) and a dozen confirmation finds IN JUST TWO MONTHS. I can tell you this it comes from the training the dogs received from GK9. Jeff and his staff are incredible and understand what it takes to bring the best out of a dog and how to teach the handler how to read the dog. TRUST YOUR DOG! I must tell you if you are like me and are looking at the different vendors out there you can stop here, you won't find a better team to help your department. Trust me I spent hundreds of hours researching options. The knowledge, expertise, facility and training the GK9 team offer is superior to anything else out there.
