We had an excellent lunch here today at this small restaurant. There are only two tables inside and we were happy to be able to snag one of them. They do a lot of takeout. They are located on the north side of Okeechobee Blvd next to the arcade. There's ample parking in the lot out front. We were warmly greeted by the personable owner who explained how the restaurant worked. And how to build your "soul" bowl. They also have "bites" like conch fritters and coconut shrimp and others . You start with your base. I chose mashed potatoes and he got yellow rice. The other base choice is white rice. The potatoes are red bliss chunky mashed and wonderful. He was happy with his yellow rice. I also got some turkey gravy on the side for my potatoes, but did not really need it. Then you choose your 2 sides. We both opted for the candy yams. I got macaroni and cheese and he got collard greens (with smoked turkey). The yams were delicious and addictive. He said the collards were great, too. Other sides could be cabbage, Lima beans, green beans, black eyed peas, or potato salad. Then you select your protein. I got the fried chicken -- white meat -- which was a perfectly lightly breaded meaty chicken breast and a separate wing. And he got (1) fried tender large catfish fillet. We both liked our selections. The portion in each bowl was so large that we took leftovers home for our dinner. Other protein choices on the menu are baked chicken or pork chops or snapper or turkey wings or oxtails. On the weekends (incl Thursdays) they have meatloaf and pot roast. And you get a square of sweet cornbread. I saved mine for dinner and had it for "dessert". Each protein on the menu is named after one of the owner's relatives. He's "Little Lynn"; and the restaurant is named after his grandmother. Photos of the family members adorn the wall above the tables. Your bowl is priced based on the protein you select. The restaurant will have been open three years to come this October. We hope they have a long continuing history (they began as a sauce manufacturer and catering company) as we look forward to many more delicious meals here. read more

Real food served here! Small interior but Enormous on Hospitality and Great food! You are welcomed as soon as you enter and if it is your first time, (and I guarantee it won't be your last!), the menu and servings are explained with lots of possible combinations. I chose yellow rice as my base, regular cornbread, collards and Yams as my sides, topped with a large fried catfish filet as my protein. They are very accommodating in your requests and eager to please. The kitchen is great and the Florida born and based culinary results are a hit! The pride and enjoyment of sharing food experiences growing up in grandmother Georgia Mae's kitchen is what makes this kitchen a success! I can across this place on DoorDash so I decided to give it a try for lunch on Saturday. There were many options to choose from for the build your soul bowl, but I chose the following - mash potato base with Mac & cheese and candied yams side and after pondering the different proteins, I decided on the catfish. I was pleasantly surprised that it also came with a piece of lovely soft cornbread. Now at first glance I was not thrilled with all the breading on the catfish or that mash did not come with gravy. The pictures online were definitely deceiving. The breading also did not stick well to the overcooked fish. The mash was seasoned well and still tasted good without gravy. The mac was baked well but kind of bland. The candied yams were absolutely delicious. The portion was big enough to have some leftover for later. You will slip into a slumber after eating this comfort meal so prepare for a Netflix and nap kind of day. read more

Was in the mood for soul food so I decided to try this place. Upon walking in I told the lady at the counter this was my first time so she let me know that it's soul food served Chipotle style .. hm interesting! So for the soul bowl I had a choice of cornbread, rice , 2 sides & a protein so I chose regular cornbread , yellow rice , mac & cheese & yams with the fried chicken. That's quite a lot of starch but it was worth it! The fried chicken was pretty good, the mac was cheesy though it had a slightly burnt taste ( maybe because it's the end of the night ) and the yams were pretty good. There was no more peach cobbler so I tried the strawberry cake & that was tasty & homemade. I wanted to try the home made lemonades but there was no more. I paid $27 for the soul bowl & cake. I think instead of 3 sides the bowl should come with 2 sides & more protein. Would try this restaurant again! read more

Went on a Sunday. Heard great things about the place. Decided to try. The food i give 7/10. But the prices are extremely 3x over priced. I would come often but the prices are ridiculous. There's a soul food place on Barack Obama that is good and prices are very reasonable, food portions are as well. They should really look at how they're over charging customers. Also they are not very friendly. The cook talked harsh about orders he had too make. No one greeted the guest as they entered and everyone just had a nasty frown. No smiles at all. I came from out of town, and I was told about this place. My daughter, son-in-law and grandson and I came for lunch/dinner. I thought it was sat down restaurant. I tried to sit the astrosphere positive energy when I walked, one of the ladies did ask where we come from, and that's fine. We began to let the server know what we wanted for the 3-year baby, she went over to register and clicked what we asked for and it would have cost more to buy chicken wing and string bean, then the meal, the other server came out and they were speaking under there breathe about us wanting a kid's meal, so before it went left about my grandbaby, I just told the lady to give me the $21 plate for my grandson. We order three wing dinner, and one turkey dinner was out of $96, once we got back to the hotel to eat the collard green, yellow rice and turkey wing was very salty! the sweet potatoes were watery in brown sugar, very disappointed, I just gave a donation to this restaurant, won't be back, the portion are not good, i went to Wendy, due to rain, s.m.h! Our first time here was absolutely fantastic! I had the catfish with mac and cheese and canned yams, and my husband enjoyed the baked chicken with mac and cheese, canned yams, and mashed potatoes. Walked in ready to spend good money on some good food. However I was greeted by a customer and not an employee. The staff seemed unorganized and unfriendly. The online menu stated a veggie meal could be ordered however I was forced to purchase 3 sides of veggies which was more than the veggie bowl on the menu. I did not receive all of my order. The discrepancies with price items was an issue. The collard greens were extremely salty...the mac and cheese too oily...the mashed potatoes were good and so was the red velvet cake. However the most disappointing part of the experience was seeing the owner and he not acknowledge anyone spending their money in his establishment. Was hoping to get some good ass food like southern soul food since we don't have any in Palm Beach. I was very disappointed in what I spent . I spent 62$ on trash nasty food. The fact that I had to wait for almost an hour and got home and was so upset and disappointed. But to start off is the menu it's confusing and not to appeasing. I ordered rice with Oxtails. The rice is so dry and the mac and cheese sort of burnt , Oxtails wasn't giving Oxtails taste it is an island dish so how could you mess it up but it was horrible. The only thing I liked was the corn bread like literally thats all I liked. I even tried the lemonade was not sweet enough. This restaurant is overly price for the disgusting taste it has. I even went back for a 2nd try and it was worse the meatloaf was raw and undercooked it sent me straight to the bathroom .
