    Strawberry Pound Cake
    Tash M.

Was in the mood for soul food so I decided to try this place. Upon walking in I told the lady at the counter this was my first time so she let me know that it's soul food served Chipotle style .. hm interesting! So for the soul bowl I had a choice of cornbread, rice , 2 sides & a protein so I chose regular cornbread , yellow rice , mac & cheese & yams with the fried chicken. That's quite a lot of starch but it was worth it! The fried chicken was pretty good, the mac was cheesy though it had a slightly burnt taste ( maybe because it's the end of the night ) and the yams were pretty good. There was no more peach cobbler so I tried the strawberry cake & that was tasty & homemade. I wanted to try the home made lemonades but there was no more. I paid $27 for the soul bowl & cake. I think instead of 3 sides the bowl should come with 2 sides & more protein. Would try this restaurant again!

The menu has a lot of comfort food like options. For mains, we had the mini "Big" Brekkie (fried hard), Fish and Chips, and Mushroom Toast. They were good. The payment was a bit glitchy. We wanted to split the bill and my friend basically gave up trying to figure out how to pay with the table QR codes. Diner Review: A Sunny Saturday Delight Date: Saturday,…read more11/2025 Time: 7:15 - 8:25 AM Weather: Sunny Ambiance: Walking into this diner felt like stepping into a cozy retreat with a charming twist of nostalgia. The venue boasts a retro counter, cozy booth seating, and numerous tables, making it an inviting spot for folks of all mobility levels. Although we aren't physically challenged, the easy navigation impressed us. The abundant windows let in a flood of sunlight, perfect for those with vision challenges. When we arrived, the place was pleasantly quiet, but by the time we left at 8:15 AM, it turned into a bustling hub! Ah, the magic of daylight savings--proof that a week later, everyone's still waking up at the crack of dawn for cracked eggs! Service: Upon entering, we were greeted with the freedom to sit wherever our hearts desired--a rare treat! The staff was plentiful, with servers, runners, and bus staff dancing around like a well-choreographed musical number. Our main waitress, Payton, was exceptional--accommodating and patient, especially since it was our first visit. Each time we needed extra napkins or a coffee refill, staff members swiftly responded as if they had been trained to anticipate our needs. Everyone radiated friendliness--no disgruntled faces here! Even amidst a mini waitress convention in front of the beverage area, the camaraderie among the staff was evident, all while keeping an eye on customer needs. It's nice to see people enjoying work instead of treating it like a chore! Food: Now onto the pièce de résistance! For my order, I sought Payton's expert guidance on a hybrid egg dish. I decided on the Taylor Ham pork roll, complete with cheddar and a fried egg, all nestled in a toasted croissant, accompanied by crispy hash browns. Let's just say, my taste buds were throwing a party! As for my husband, he ordered a Swiss omelette with home fries. He described it as "underwhelming," but I suspect it was simply a texture issue; I make my omelettes a bit fluffier and filled to bursting, while Southern Kitchen opts for a thinner, crepe-like style. Despite his mixed feelings about the omelette, the hash browns won his heart, and the coffee was served hot and flavorful--essential for any successful breakfast outing! Value: For two hearty breakfasts and two delightful coffees, the bill tallied up to $31 before gratuity. Average $15 a head. Not bad! Will We Be Back?: Absolutely! With the promise of a succulent egg sandwich, endless piping hot coffee, and stellar service, we're ready to add Southern Kitchen to our lineup. Who could resist that!

The truffle fries and short rib benedict were also good, just didn't stand out in a big way. And of course, mimosas... no notes there. We had guacamole, and the server suggested the ginger guac. I liked it, but one person didn't like the ginger flavor. I was advised to order the short rib fettuccine, and I am so happy I did. It has goat cheese, mushroom and peas. I could do without the latter, but otherwise it's a really delicious dish. The dessert -- which arrived with candles -- was a bit of a disappointment. Unfortunately, almost everything else fell flat. The menu is quite limited, and the drink selection is even more restricted. No Merlot on the wine list? That was surprising. We were also disappointed to hear the skirt steak was already sold out by 5:00 pm, especially given how few entrée options there were to begin with. The food itself was a major letdown. I took a seat at the end of the empty bar and waited for a bartender. I was greeted quickly and offered a lunch and cocktail menu. However, I had to ask for the Happy Hour Menu (I arrived at 1:13pm). Not sure if this is a standard practice or if the bartender truly had just lost track of time. After perusing the happy hour menu (all items listed are $10) I decided on the Citrus Mojito, the Wagyu Steak Skewer, the Beef Cheek Empanada and the Lobster Bisque Shooter. The mojito was GOOD. Very refreshing, not too sweet, yet still light and flavorful. I felt good after one. The Wagyu Steak Skewer was the most UNDERWHELMING choice of the afternoon. Thick cut of meat, salted nicely, but if you don't like your cow still mooing don't order! I did not get a choice in temperature. It wasn't a huge deterrent for me but definitely could be unsettling for others. The Beef Cheek Empanada was my favorite bite of the afternoon. My only complaint is that you only get one per order lol. Flakey crust. Filled with nicely seasoned beef. 10/10! The Lobster Bisque Shooter has great potential, but today, was poorly executed. The lobster bisque itself is exceptionally flavorful, but terribly salty. It doesn't help that the cheese in the grilled cheese sandwich adds a layer of salt, that in conjunction with the soup, just ultimately cripples the dish. Any happy hour downtown with a $10 drink option is a gem in itself, but I would certainly return for the empanadas.

I made an early reservation and was seated immediately upon entering. Since we've been here many times,we knew what to expect. I ordered the NY strip, which was perfect, my wife ordered a simple burger...uh oh..... It came out pretty rare, almost raw. She ordered medium, which is pretty standard for restaurant burgers. She couldn't eat this, so we called the waitress, who was a doll, very apologetic but generally warm and professional. Well the burger came back disguised as a hockey puck. Again the waitress came right over and again apologized, my wife was fed up and didn't want another burger and really didn't want anything at this point. Although we didn't ask for a manager, she showed up with out being asked for. She immediately apologized and pleaded with my wife to order something, so my wife ordered a salad, which probtly came. Next, 2 desserts and coffee. Finally the manager comes over, hands my wife her business card an tells us, please give us another try and have dinner on me! Lastly, I ask for the check and was told, it was all comped! Not expected as my meal was great and I also had two cocktails. None the less, I tipped approximately based on the cost of our meals. Last week we stopped in as we were driving home from Port St Lucie and found to spots at the bar. My wife ordered a filet mignon, which she declared was one of the best she's had, I had the double cut pork chop. Both meals came out together, hot and nicely plated. We only asked for the manager our meal and only to thank her. We also complimented her staff and raved about the meal. Again, my drinks were comped which I don't know why but, hey someone buys you a drink, don't complain. Anyway a generous tip and two happy campers. I decided to give this place a second chance on April 18, 2026, with an 8:30 PM reservation, and unfortunately, it was just as bad--if not worse--than my first visit. The service was exceptionally poor. Our waiter, Michael, set the tone early, and not in a good way. It took over an hour just to receive our appetizers, and drink refills required tracking down other staff members. What stood out most was the complete lack of attentiveness--Michael never once checked in on our table throughout the evening. The delay was so excessive that I was able to leave the restaurant, walk across the street, purchase a new set of clothes for my daughter, return, and have her change--all before our main course even arrived. To be clear, this wasn't out of convenience--it was out of necessity. The restaurant was so excessively hot that she was visibly uncomfortable and overheating. To make matters worse, water was served at room temperature in what felt like a furnace of a dining room. We actually had to ask multiple times--and essentially beg--just to get ice brought to the table. That alone speaks volumes about the level of awareness and care. Dining out is supposed to be a relaxing, enjoyable experience--especially after an evening out--but this was anything but. The food itself was underwhelming at best: mediocre, forgettable, and certainly not worth the wait. What was most disappointing, however, was the apparent inconsistency in service. From my observation, certain tables--specifically white families--received noticeably more attention and care, while others, including Hispanic, Asian, and African-American patrons, were largely overlooked. As part of an interracial family, this was both disheartening and unacceptable to witness. I've had great experiences at other locations of this restaurant, which makes this visit even more frustrating. This location, however, falls far below standard. To the management and staff: you're in a high-traffic area where guests come to unwind and enjoy their time. This experience did the exact opposite. One star--and that's only because it was possible to secure a reservation. Now I understand why availability wasn't an issue. TL;DR: Excessive heat, inattentive service, long wait times, mediocre food, and a deeply disappointing overall experience. I will not be returning.
