I have nothing but praise for Gerald Giel Garage Doors! We had an unfortunate incident where a vehicle slipped out of gear and we needed a new garage door. Sent a message after hours for a quote, and received a call (still after hours!) to schedule the next am to look at the door and confirm what was needed. They were on time- courteous and thankfully had the same door in stock. It was freezing outside, but they were able to schedule installation for the next morning. (Once again on time and friendly / clean staff.) .....This is what really impressed me: Unfortunately, we had a slight problem a month later. I emailed the company on a Saturday, and by Monday AM- there was a crew at our door to rectify the issue. The first install, there was issues with the finish work. The door install was perfect. Received a call from Shawn at Resnick's; the company that recently purchased Giels Garage Door's. Started off with a sincere apology. Stating that they would make it right. Due to extreme cold weather and snow we had to wait about a week. Received a call from Shawn and we set up a time to redo the work. Eric showed up and stated his intent. Explaining what he would correct. This guy was a true tradesman. He did way more than what he promised. Reconstructing both door frames and did metal work that is art. Added brick molding. The joints are so tight and precise calk wasn't needed but he wanted it as a secondary measure. The job is beautiful! In life workers don't realize they are the front runners the face of the company in their actions and work. They represent the company! As one company takes on a new one some systems fall short. They take time to get the rhythm down and standards. Well, mistakes were made. Once identified, they were corrected in a timely manor to a supreme standard. I am over pleased with Resnick's I believe Gerry truly sold his company to a very reputable business that intends to make it even better. $200 an hour?!?! Over the phone the guy said the Job will be $200 if they have to replace the belt or bar. They didn't have to replace anything just adjust it!! $200 later they called us back once and never heard from them again. I called for help regarding compatibility between my Homelink opener in my vehicle and my Liftmaster garage door opener since Giel had installed and serviced the openers.. The individual I spoke with was rude and condescending. He told me he could send a technician out to go through my garage door manual with me or I could just call LiftMaster. He was insulting. He added that they only do installations and repairs. He could've led with that a bit more politely. If I need a new garage door opener, I will go somewhere else. After reading his reply, my response is, "It's not what you said, it's how you said it." read more

Prompt and excellent service! The spring broke on my garage door and my car was "stuck" in the garage all day. I called Gerald Giel Garage Doors and they were at my house with it a few hours and completed the job within 30 minutes! The man was knowledgeable, courteous and prompt. Service oriented company - installers are very professional and knowledgeable - Owner is honorable; pricing and scheduling are great.

Called the wrong Giel to have new doors installed. Wanted someone to come out and look at the door after it was installed as we thought there was a problem. Owner screamed and yelled would not even listen to what we had to say. Kept saying we had the problem, you need friends, and are lonely. That we were just looking for problems. What type of business is this when the owner carries on that way? I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

I recently needed new garage doors. I originally went with one company that tried to completely rip me off and over charge me. A few friends of mine told me to call Gerry Giel, and that was the best decision I made. He immediately contacted me, came to my residence and really went above and beyond to make a stressful situation easy. He installed my new doors with in a day, his team that works for him were friendly and professional. Gerry really went above and beyond to help me and when I was speaking with his employees, they made it very clear he always puts his customers first. I would recommend them to anyone. Very timely and honest assessment of the repair needed for our roll-up garage door. Repair was made quickly and cost effectively. A larger chain service provider tried to say that the door could not be repaired without replacing numerous parts at an absurd cost. I will be using this service provider for any future repairs or door installation. read more

This is less than 1 Star service! This is the worst customer service that I have ever experienced! Our garage door was getting stuck from time to time so called them to come out. They never told us it was a $75 fee, but the worst was they never said they couldn't work on GeNie garage door openers. They are a garage door company so we thought they could help. The service guy told me if they worked on them he could just go into his truck, get a part, and fix it, but since they don't work on them all he could do was replace it for over $400. He "fixed" some hinge that made our door inoperable. So we had to pay $85 for a broken door. We called the owner and he was in the defensive from the get go. He was to just tell us how long he's been in business and blah blah blah. He was very aggressive and had zero customer service. What kind of business wants to just there wreck their reputation for $85. So sneaky to not tell us upfront how much or that they do not service our type of opener. I would never use them! Our garage door springs broke a couple days ago and it has been a real headache. I called around for a ballpark estimates and provided limited information I knew about the door from looking at it. I called probably 8 companies all over Pittsburgh. I first spoke with customer service for a large company who answered quickly and were friendly, however their verbal quote on the phone was $150 to $189 per spring PLUS a service fee for an on-site estimate/visit but they didn't say how much for the fee upfront. Then they said the price could go up depending on door needs and the tech would have to figure that out and tell me about the cost of warranties but I would still have to pay the visit fee even if I didn't get it fixed right then. I thought that might be reasonable to expect a small price variation but then became suspicious as the call went on. As I repeated I was going to call around before deciding, the service fee was mentioned as around $65, then it kept dropping down to $39, then it was free as long as I got a repair of at least $75 when the tech came. It made me very concerned over the the honesty of a company who didn't want to let me off the phone until I scheduled an appointment AND kept changing prices! The other companies I spoke with seemed nice and responsive but couldn't come right away and I was told by one that Mr. Giel was known for good work and to go with him. When I spoke to Mr. Gerald Giel, he sounded like he could have been a really nice neighbor or friend of my family and he could come in about 90 mins, awesome! He came himself instead of calling in employees he had given the day off. I've only been at this house for 5 years so I didn't know anything about the garage door when it was installed. Not only did Mr. Giel explain who installed and how they installed the door but he showed me charts and information showing the door only needed one large, long-life spring instead of two smaller, weaker springs as had been initially installed. He could cut my cost down because only one spring was truly needed. He was finished in a half hour. I received honest, excellent, and fast service and my cost was about $150 less than all the estimates! I am so glad I called around and then decided on this company. I would suggest this company to everyone! I was in a jam because my garage door fell off of the track causing the garage windows to shatter all over my garage floor. Giel had a consultant out to my house within the hour. He was very knowledgeable and gave me the option to fix it, and also showed me a pamphlet on new doors. The cost was so cost effective I could not say no. He installed it the SAME day, and took away the old door and parts. This door is quieter, nicer, and works so much better. Gerald called me personally and gave me a quote for same day service. His price beat every other estimate (beating one quote by $100) but most importantly, he was professional and courteous. Excellent product, installation, price and communications. Gerry was the first one to show up to give me a bid; he answered all my multitude of questions in full and comes with a truckload of door and framing samples to best illustrate the differences in product. Although I wanted the more insulated product, he made sure to inform me about and let me know that the less expensive product would also serve me well. There was less than a week install time and his prices were by far the best out of 4 bids. He encouraged me to get other bids as he said with a laugh " it makes me look good". I felt grateful for such an easy transaction and honest exchange. Jeff the installer was friendly and all about getting the job done. He cleaned up after himself , answered all my questions and explained the minimal door care info. It took him 3 hours to replace my single car garage door. On Initial install date, an installer called off sick so we rescheduled a few days later. Gerry called me first thing in the AM so I wasn't kept unnecessarily tied up for the day. I am horrified with the customer service at Giel Garage Door. I spoke to Christine and she was the rudest person I have had the misfortune of speaking to. I was unable to be at home when a technician came to fix my door. While I was told that the technician spoke to my tenant regarding the repair, I asked nicely to be able to speak to them regarding the work they had done on my property to get further details. Christine was incredibly condescending, belligerent, and began to yell about how I was wasting her time with my phone calls. I have never been YELLED at nor spoken to in this manner by anyone in my life. I will NEVER use them again and hope Christine receives proper training on speaking to customers in the future. read more
